Is this inappropriate?

Won’t identify myself as keen to garner responses.

Person A organises free drinks at a pub near their work for a workplace hobby society they are a part of eg Watersports Club. They invite B and C from their actual work. B and C have nothing in common with the others (both female, the others aren’t; fair bit younger than the others etc) but end up staying on for drinks at the event until late into the evening. They mainly chat to each other but also mingle with the group.

Has anyone behaved inappropriately in these circumstances?

This entire thread reads like mumsnet trying to solve a GCSE maths problem.

Bluntness100 · 07/03/2019 16:22

Actually a pp might be right on re reading, some bloke has invited two younger women for free drinks.

XiCi · 07/03/2019 16:23

I might be pissed off that two people who were not part of the club were benefitting from free drinks all night presumably paid for from the club kitty

Exactly this. Person A should not have invited B & C if club funds were paying for the drinks. I'd think that was taking the piss

ideasofmarch · 07/03/2019 16:24

To cut a long story short - yes.

ClownpantsKate · 07/03/2019 16:24

At some members clubs the member has to sign guests in and pay for their drinks.

A should have paid for B and C’s drinks.

Bluntness100 · 07/03/2019 16:25

and his wife is having a strop

Not sure it's his wife, but it's someone's wife,,,,🤣

Bluntness100 · 07/03/2019 16:28

Op, would you have posted this, if it was two men invited?

Shoxfordian · 07/03/2019 16:28

I don't think B or C were wrong. Maybe A shouldn't have asked non club members though

cuppycakey · 07/03/2019 16:28

So A invited totally unrelated people to a free drinks event that was supposed to be for members of a club, not for random outsiders?

Yes - A has acted very poorly and should recompense the club for the drinks their friends had. Was A just showing off? Is A male and trying to impress B & C who are younger and female?

arethereanyleftatall · 07/03/2019 16:32

It all sounds really odd to me. Like b & c are young female Totty bought in to entertain the menz.

Honeyishrunktherat · 07/03/2019 16:37

I am a wife yes but not one of any of the above...

Funding not an issue as drinks pre-ordered and people would not have finished them.

This really isn't interesting enough to drag out. You've had your responses, and you'll just get more of the same. Explain or expect everyone to leave the thread.

Honeyishrunktherat · 07/03/2019 16:40

There’s nothing to explain - answers are appreciated so thanks, I was quite clear at the beginning I didn’t want to explain how I was. That still stands

OP posts:
FFSFFSFFS · 07/03/2019 16:41

Sorry - so B&C are younger women that A invited along to drinks with other older males?

Is the problem that A is annoyed that the pretty young ladies didn't flirt enough for their free drinks?

(or I may be on the wrong track....)

sofato5miles · 07/03/2019 16:41

Nothing inappropriate

cuppycakey · 07/03/2019 16:44

drinks pre-ordered and people would not have finished them

What does this mean? Confused

Grace212 · 07/03/2019 16:46

OP you might not want to explain who you are

but if you don't tell us what behaviour has been - presumably - labelled inappropriate by Someone, then what's the point of the thread?!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 07/03/2019 16:49

I can't see that it's particularly inappropriate. Unless it's 'water sports' in the sense of urination as part of sex, in which case it would be fairly inappropriate for a company to have a sexual fetish club. Wink

Travis1 · 07/03/2019 16:49

So basically A's wife thinks he wants to shag B or C and now it's all kicking off?

NunoGoncalves · 07/03/2019 16:50

There’s nothing to explain

I don't know about that. Your OP is quite ambiguous. Are B and C part of the hobby club or not?

JamPasty · 07/03/2019 16:50

Nothing inappropriate at all

winsinbin · 07/03/2019 16:52

Person A wasn’t paying for the drinks so had no business inviting people not associated with the club. Presumably club funds are raised by members for the benefit of members not so Person A’s colleagues can turn up and freeload.

Dahlietta · 07/03/2019 16:53

If B & C aren't part of the club and the club is paying the drinks bill, to which B & C are presumably contributing a fair amount, it's a bit weird for A to have invited them, but it's not the crime of the century.
