Won’t identify myself as keen to garner responses.

Person A organises free drinks at a pub near their work for a workplace hobby society they are a part of eg Watersports Club. They invite B and C from their actual work. B and C have nothing in common with the others (both female, the others aren’t; fair bit younger than the others etc) but end up staying on for drinks at the event until late into the evening. They mainly chat to each other but also mingle with the group.

Has anyone behaved inappropriately in these circumstances?

What caused YOU to think it might be inappropriate @OP ?

MitziK · 07/03/2019 19:50

Is there a DP of B or C who is bitching that they were there, surrounded by older men and is accusing her of going on the prowl with her friend, because it's 'inappropriate' to attend and stay out past his imposed curfew time of 6.30pm?

Gina2012 · 07/03/2019 20:06

A is inappropriate for inviting non hobby colleagues without checking with others and spending the club money on B and Cs drinks.

Totally inappropriate for young women, or any women in general, to socialize, drink alcohol or talk. In fact, what are they even doing working in the first place?

This thread should carry a warning, I feel triggered by all this inappropriateness.

Fairenuff · 07/03/2019 20:23

OP is A's wife. She was annoyed at him inviting young females. Maybe she was not invited and she's jealous. OP won't be back now.

Babysharkdododont · 07/03/2019 20:29

Fairenuff has it on the head there. OP is married to Richard the kayaker. He's shagging Lisa from accounts and he invited her, along with Dawn from reception, to the annual kayak do. OP has found out from the gossip in the WI, the entire town is scandalised. She wants to LTB but needs to get her ducks in a row first.

kenandbarbie · 07/03/2019 20:43

Doesn't sound inappropriate to me. I'm assuming they all work together but the two young women aren't in the water sports club,

greenlynx · 07/03/2019 20:47

It was an event for members so A was wrong to invite others, it wasn’t his personal event. Inappropriate sounds too strong, but do you mean it about how A saw his role?
I think age and gender of B and C doesn’t matter in this situation. The event was for members - end of story. I wouldn’t blame B and C though, it could be genuine misunderstanding from their side.

jadeyfly · 07/03/2019 21:01

YABVU by not explaining 🤣

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 08/03/2019 15:54

Great summary Babysharkdododont Grin

If Richard the kayaker capsizes and drowns in suspicious circumstances and his wife dissappears to Acapulco to start a new life using the life insurance then that explains why the OP never returned to the thread

HomeMadeMadness · 08/03/2019 15:57

Obviously A shouldn't have brought B and C it's a bit odd that he even asked them.

Joebloggswazere · 08/03/2019 18:11

OP is either wife of A or one of the wives of the water sports club and is feeling, suspicious, annoyed, threatened or insecure about B and C being invited.

Aubaine · 08/03/2019 18:31

OP is the wife of F, the club’s (useless) windsurfer. OP read Fred’s texts and saw one from F to A complaining that A’s “workplace totty” B was “a bitch” to him when he was “only being friendly by asking for a goodbye cuddle”. C doesn’t count because it turns out she’s engaged.

I think you would need to define inappropriate.

MatildaTheCat · 08/03/2019 18:38

Diagram attached.

Person A on left. Persons B or C on right.
Person A is unhappy that person C not looking more enthusiastic about their lovely evening despite staying late.

Person E is a red herring.

this is ridic'

BoomBoomsCousin · 08/03/2019 18:45

I don't think A has necessarily acted inappropriately. It's a workplace hobby group and the "new" guests are from the workplace. It sounds like the hobby group is pretty exclusionary if all the members are male so A could have been trying to expand the membership and stop the club from continuing its sexist ways or at least protect it from accusations of sexism. It depends on A's motivations really.

bringincrazyback · 08/03/2019 18:48

I can't see that it's particularly inappropriate. Unless it's 'water sports' in the sense of urination as part of sex, in which case it would be fairly inappropriate for a company to have a sexual fetish club.

Damn, someone beat me to it. Grin

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 08/03/2019 18:51

There’s nothing to explain

I think there is, though, otherwise all the responses are based on each individual’s interpretation of the post which may or may not be accurate, meaning that their answers can only be of limited use to you!

I used to be one of very few young women in a male-dominated company and unfortunately there were a few situations where I very much got the vibe that my presence was ‘inappropriate’.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 08/03/2019 18:52

OK, so A is OP's husband, Bernard. Bernard is into watersports in a big way but OP - Betty - is not so keen. So Bernard practises his watersports hobby at work with like-minded people.

Bernard organises a get-together for the Little Dribbling Post Office Water-sports Enthusiasts. The club has put a kitty behind the bar. But without consulting the club, Bernard has invited Kylie and Britney from the grocery shop attached to the Post Office. (Little Dribbling is old-school in its set-up. It also has a duck pond.) Anyway, Kylie and Britney caught Bernard's eye one day when he was buying his Twix for his elevenses to go with his cup of PG Tips. Before he knew what he was doing, they got chatting about watersports and Kylie and Britney seemed very keen!

But fast forward to the night in question, and it turns out they'd only wanted him for the Malibu and Coke he'd promised them. They spent all night giggling to each other and eyeing up Justin from the Passport and Holiday Money booth. Poor Bernard.

But where was Betty in all this? Where indeed? If only Bernard had not organised his event to clash with the WI Celebration of Lemon Curd meeting in the same pub. There was tutting when they saw Britney and Kylie, let me tell you. Tutting, and at least one bosom was hoiked. How could Betty concentrate on lemon curd when covered with such confusion? The village hadn't experienced such a scandal since Nativitygate when Clementine Appleby pushed Apple Clementinely off the stage in the row over who should play Mary.

Iwrotethissongfor · 08/03/2019 18:53

Surprise at all the whose wife complained comments. ! Are women only spectators in men’s lives, jealously guarding them, rather than people who do things (organise or go to drinks) in their own right? I read it as OP being A, she is a wife, but not the wife of A, as she is A.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 08/03/2019 18:56

Can you at least share what the grievance was?!
