We had a lot of Brexit threads but I think not about this topic. As somebody who does not live in Britain I wonder if you changed your opinion about Brexit now that you heard that a hard Brexit is most likely. Would you vote different if there was a second vote?

I know people that voted Remain that said IF there was ever a second referendum they would vote Leave out of principle. I've always said I don't know why people are pushing so hard for a second referendum/people's Vote/final Say - British psyche would push the Leave vote higher than 52% next time round.

Pillowaddict · 07/03/2019 09:41

Those who glibly countdown to leave with such glee have absolutely no thought for the friends and family members from EU countries who are now put in the position to leave loved ones and careers because a group were lied to about possibilities that will never be given. Those lying have as much as admitted it now, and are running scared leaving the country, securing their own wealth and passports from elsewhere for their families.
I hope all you leavers are happy to have been part of creating further longterm poverty, job loss and adversity for our country.
There are no trade deals. Prices will escalate. Companies and organisations are leaving in droves, with the jobs that they offer, and everyone with an economics background recognises it's a shit show. There comes a time when it's actually braver to admit you were lied to and may have been wrong this show boating where others are genuinely afraid for the future of their family and career os worse than idiotic, it's cruel.

ShartGoblin · 07/03/2019 09:44

Would vote Leave again in a heartbeat. I hate the EU now much more than I did 2-3 years ago. They are utterly vile - for too many reasons to list.

I fell for the remain campaign’s lies and I just feel lucky that Leave won.

*Can’t wait to leave.
Just 22 days to go........Whoo Hoo!!!!! *

Who’s upset?
We’re leaving in a few weeks. I’m very happy.

*I voted Leave and would again.

Awaits the insults that fly regularly from Remains mouths/keyboards!*

But why? That's what I want to know and I keep asking but no-one ever answers me. Why is Brexit good? Whatever my beliefs I'm going to have to live through it so why will no-one tell me a single positive thing? I'm not calling anyone an idiot, I'm not getting aggressive I just want to know why you all think leaving is a positive thing so that maybe I can feel a bit better about everything.

NoWittyNamesAvailable · 07/03/2019 09:57

I regret my vote, i voted leave. I was taken in by the lies and at the time thought it was the right choice. I'd spent ages swinging between the 2 and in the day leave made more sense to me. Now I would absolutely change my vote to remain, I worry for my children's future and knowing I voted for this leaves me with horrendous guilt.

KidLorneRoll · 07/03/2019 10:00

Expecting a sensible response to "why brexit?" now when nobody has come up with one up to this point despite having 3-4 years to think of one is fruitless.

The UK is going to be worse off outside the EU. It will have no more 'control', whatever that meant in the first place. The leave vote was fueled by ignorance, nothing more.

Joey7t8 · 07/03/2019 10:09

I don’t know anyone that has changed their minds either way. If the same 33.5m people were able to cast their votes tomorrow, I’d bet that the result would be similar to within +/- 0.1%.

However, natural turnover over 3 years means that the same 33m couldn’t vote tomorrow. And even more significantly, a few million young voters have since registered.

Miljah · 07/03/2019 10:45

I voted Remain and would do so again.

I'm not a huge fan of the EU but it's a bloody sight better than the alternatives.

I am horrified by the nasty, ugly goadiness of so many Leavers, particularly on MN, crouching behind their keyboards being as vile as any single 42 year old unemployed delivery driver sitting in his stained Y fronts hammering away on his PC in his mum's back room, spitting bile.

Peoples' lives are being destroyed by this, all over a public schoolboy spat, but Leavers don't care.

Thankfully, 3 of the 5 Leavers I know personally have had the courage to admit they now know they were lied to, and are horrified by what Leave will mean to them and their families, and who are angry at how their 'Leave' vote is being touted as meaning 'no Deal', as 'that's what 17.4m people voted for'...Admittedly, they walked into that one, but at least they admit it.

I don't want a second referendum as it is increasingly apparent that the Leave mindset isn't open to reality, truth, facts.

However, I suspect we'll be back in in a couple of years, albeit with nothing like the deal we currently have.

Miljah · 07/03/2019 10:46

Incidentally, I think the Leave/Remain token is a fantastic idea! 😊

onthenaughtystepagain · 07/03/2019 10:49

@KidLorneRoll. Typical remainer comment about those who voted leave hey.? Rude

A comment that contradicts the general flow of insults! The worst comments are generally aimed at those with the temerity to remain.

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 07/03/2019 10:51

I know at least 3 Leavers who regret their vote. My mother, who allowed herself to be blindly led by my father (a fully paid up racist bigot UKIP member). And my neighbours who believed the lies, and are now horrified by what they got sucked into and are actively helping campaign for a second referendum.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/03/2019 10:56

I'm another one who just doesn't get the argument that we are being bullied. How? Bullying isn't refusing to give into someone who is making unreasonable demands that will have great costs to themselves.

surferjet · 07/03/2019 11:01

I know 176 people who voted remain who would now vote leave.
All my neighbors, my milkman, postman, all the checkout staff at my local supermarket & my granny.

Tru fact.

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 07/03/2019 11:06

Well that's good news for them then isn't it, SurferJet, given the outcome? Hmm

what I actually want to type would probably get me banned

Biancadelrioisback · 07/03/2019 11:07

What will actually change on 29th? From what I've been led to believe, prices will rise, more companies will leave or fail due to supply chain issues, we will become unstable. Yes we will be rocky for a while but will eventually stabilise and may well end up being better off.

However the huge uncertain bit where families will literally not be able to put food on the table or pay their bills etc, how long will that last for? How many people will suffer? FFS just look at the impact it's going to have on cancer treatments. I just don't understand the why we've taken the risk. It almost feels like a mass culling.

Joey7t8 · 07/03/2019 11:16

Yes we will be rocky for a while but will eventually stabilise and may well end up being better off

This is possible, but it’s going to take decades to achieve. Even Reese Mogg said up to 50 years!!!

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 07/03/2019 11:38

Well I thought it was a shit idea and now I think it's a really, really shit idea. Does that count?

Theworldisfullofgs · 07/03/2019 11:46

By the way, what's happened to the Brexit dividend?

themoomoo · 07/03/2019 11:48

I am horrified by the nasty, ugly goadiness of so many Leavers, particularly on MN
you see that's interesting because from my perspective the vast vast majority of insults have been aimed at leavers.
Could you enlighten me as to what sort of goadiness/ insults have been aimed at Remainers

SerenDippitty · 07/03/2019 11:53

Still remain.

bellinisurge · 07/03/2019 11:59

No, it's still a shitshow. I'll accept WA as the least dreadful version of Leave because [assume blank hypnotised expression] I accept the will of the people.

Numptysod · 07/03/2019 12:38

Says it all remain to remain.

AIBU to ask if you changed your opinion about Brexit
NCforthis2019 · 07/03/2019 12:42

i know people that have voted to remain that would now vote to leave - one of the reasons being how terrible the EU had bullied the UK and how they have behaved appalingly towards us.

Lndnmummy · 07/03/2019 12:46

The ignorance on this thread is really worrying. You have voted for a worse future for your children, for yourselves and for your elders. The rule Britannia is no longer, done decades ago. The ignorance that lil old UK can play hardball with the rest of the world is laughable if it wasn’t so tragic. People thought “we” could just dictate the terms. Nope, you and your children will live to see the consequences.

Lndnmummy · 07/03/2019 12:48

EU bullied the UK, that’s so funnyGrin. Is that because Boris and Nigels unauthorised naive and stoooopid claims never materialised?

vanitythynameisnotwoman · 07/03/2019 12:53

Still Remain.

Anxious for the future and wishing I were well enough to find employment abroad.
Worried for those for whom losing 9% of GDP will drive into poverty, for the loss of hope for a generation of youth raised in austerity.

The EU: have protected peace by the terms of the GFA, have been consistent and fair.

See it as an immense project of national self harm led by the rich, supported by scapegoating the EU for austerity.
