AIBU to ask if you changed your opinion about Brexit

We had a lot of Brexit threads but I think not about this topic. As somebody who does not live in Britain I wonder if you changed your opinion about Brexit now that you heard that a hard Brexit is most likely. Would you vote different if there was a second vote?

Nope. Just as dumbfuck an idea as it was in 2016.

EmeraldShamrock · 07/03/2019 00:23

No.
It is still shit, it is going to cause havoc for decades.
I am not in or from the UK. I had no input on the vote, yet I suspect it will cause havoc across the water in terms of trades and the relationship between Ireland & the UK, which also took decades to build.

Reallyevilmuffin · 07/03/2019 00:36

Voted leave, was unsure at the time but felt it better in the long run. Looking at the way the EU have been so intransigent during the negotiations the further we are away from them the better.

Bravelurker · 07/03/2019 00:44

I was watching the local news a couple of months ago and a married couple who voted opposite to one another couldn't agree on a single point over 2 years later Shock.
A couple who are middle aged and may have even been grandparents, share a marital bed (presumably) and they couldn't agree.
The remainer was distressed and tried to explain the many reasons why its the worst thing ever and the leaver was having non of it and insisted everything was going to be alright because Hmm we will be able to negotiate.
A married couple ffs Angry couldn't but the decision makers will

Longwayoff Even living in Belgium, I don't buy European wine. Mine is from Aus, NZ, Chile and the US.

Lovingbenidorm · 07/03/2019 00:50

I would love to know how many leave voters would be prepared to admit that they made a huge mistake
(Albeit due to being fed lies)
Isn’t it ironic that the people shouting ‘scaremongering!’ To those who dare to tell us that we are heading for a shit storm, the like of which has not been seen in 200 years,
when they were ‘scaremongered’ into voting to leave in the first place.

SleightOfMind · 07/03/2019 00:51

Lots of people have. Hanged their minds in both directions but none of them are going to come on a thread like this and get a kicking for it.

What about you OP?
Get the ball rolling, if you could have voted in 2016, would you vote the same way in a second ref?
If not, what’s changed?

SleightOfMind · 07/03/2019 00:51

Changed, not hanged obv Blush

CheshireChat · 07/03/2019 00:56

Reallyevilmuffin see, I don't understand why people assumed the EU would or even should be all nicey nicey to the UK. It's like a divorce with absolutely massive stakes and they have to prioritise the remaining countries.

Not to mention, some of the stuff we have to pay out now is stuff we've agreed on.

Lovingbenidorm · 07/03/2019 00:57

I certainly wouldn’t have a pop at anyone who admitted they’d cocked up.
I do find it frustrating when people say “leave means leave!” Etc etc
Do they actually realise what they’ve done?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 07/03/2019 01:18

I voted Remain last time, but I would vote Leave if democracy failed and we had another vote.

I fell for the remain campaign’s lies and I just feel lucky that Leave won.

(And yes, we’ve had several of these exact threads before.)

notangelinajolie · 07/03/2019 01:21

Leave. Still leave.

AdoraBell · 07/03/2019 01:22

No change here, still Remain.

DH might be changing his mind. He voted Leave, was surprised at the result and now thinks it may have been a mistake.

summerisgone · 07/03/2019 01:35

Voted to leave. Still would vote leave.

The way the EU has behaved since the referendum result has shown me I made the right choice.

SilverySurfer · 07/03/2019 01:48

BeachtheButler
Hoppity if you think it's over - think again. You might have got us out, but all that means is we'll start campaigning to re-join. I don't think many leavers realise that it's going to be an on-going battle to keep us out.

I don't think you realise that Leave voters are fully prepared to continue the fight to keep us out, that's if the EU doesn't implode first.

Coffeebean76 · 07/03/2019 07:15

Remain and remain again.

Can’t believe the selfishness of Leave voters when faced with clear evidence that this will impact negatively on this country stubbornly and happily drag the rest of us down with them.

surferjet · 07/03/2019 07:23

Leave then & even more leave now.
The way some remainers & the EU have treated us is nothing short of disgusting.

Can’t wait to leave.
Just 22 days to go........Whoo Hoo!!!!! 🎉🍷🎉🍷

Ski4130 · 07/03/2019 07:28

Dh and I voted differently, and we’d both still vote the same if we had the time again. We always vote differently in general/local elections too. It’s all good, we don’t fall out about it, it is what it is.

malificent7 · 07/03/2019 07:29

Remain although the sheer amount of inflexibility on both sides is appauling. I don'f see the eu in such a favourable light due to this although i feel immensely sad that a peace project such as the eu looks like it is crumbling.....

Angelicinnocent · 07/03/2019 07:33

Leave then and leave now.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 07/03/2019 07:43

The only intransigence is from the British side in not wanting to sort a border of their own making. Which is odd given there was so much talk of taking back control.

Also interesting to see how many people that are apparently ok with mass job losses. Strange times.

Bufferingkisses · 07/03/2019 07:56

I haven't changed my mind but several people I know well, respect and know to be intelligent and considered have changed their minds. I'm lucky that our larger group is able to discuss this topic openly and honestly without a lot of the vitriol that can happen otherwise I think I'd be unaware of any reasoning behind people's thoughts because it virtually impossible to discuss online.

Figmentofmyimagination · 07/03/2019 08:00

You might be interested in this new piece by human geographer Danny Dorling.

www.dannydorling.org/?p=7164

Dorling’analysis shows how the leave vote was won by Conservative party voters in Southern England - people who are moderately affluent but who feel they should be doing better. As he points out, there will be no resolution - if at all - until we understand who and why we voted.

The evidence as to which part of the voting population is most wedded to seeing Brexit through - and their importance to a future Conservative party - explains why the process is playing out as it is - in terms of priorities.

This is a repeat of research into the vote published in the British medical journal shortly after the 2016 ref.

You often hear these voices from leavers on Mumsnet.

Crunchycrunchycrunchy · 07/03/2019 08:04

Remain and still remain.

The majority of leave voters I know would now vote remain, except for maybe 2 or 3.

Crimebustersofthesea · 07/03/2019 08:05

The way the EU has behaved since the referendum result has shown me I made the right choice.

I don't understand this argument at all. What exactly have the EU done other than protect their own interests and not just give us everything we want because we're special? What on Earth did people expect? I can assure you that if say France were leaving and not us we'd be pushing back just as hard.
