To think being slim should be normal for most people.

By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

susan82 · 03/03/2019 18:50

Does it really matter to you what size other people are? How does it affect you exactly OP? We're all different!

TalkinPaece · 03/03/2019 18:50

Nice to see the future burdens on the NHS out in force on this thread.

In general I support higher taxes to look after those who cannot look after themselves
but the I can eat what I like brigade
should have to pay for themselves IMHO

bibbitybobbityyhat · 03/03/2019 18:51

Yes, and I am a typical person who has gained 35lb in 30 years. Not an out of control binge eater at all.

Fuck me but it annoys me when people are such ignorant twats!

MillicentMartha · 03/03/2019 18:51

Nah, I’m 5’4” and nicely overweight and happy. And I can spell. I like biscuits too.

Supine · 03/03/2019 18:52

WendyCope my point is quite simple. I feel sympathy for anyone who is being bullied for their size, be they slim or heavy. You understandably are firstly concerned about your own child's experience, but then seem to be quite scathing about those at the fatter end of the scale. Don't you see a contradiction?

Sparklesocks · 03/03/2019 18:52

TalkinPaece curious do you also think smokers, drinkers, people who do physical sports, people who drive, should they all pay for themselves too?

origamiunicorn · 03/03/2019 18:53

Nice to see the future burdens on the NHS out in force on this thread

What healthy size 14s? What a ridiculous over exaggeration 😆

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 18:53

Supine. Yes, the OP is annoyed at Jim and Joyce because they feel it’s OK to comment on her body shape and how ‘lucky’ she is to stay slimmer than them.

OP is slim because she watches what she eats, they don’t.

It’s not rocket science.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 03/03/2019 18:54

Smokers and drinkers are both disproportionately taxed, in no small part because of the damage smoking and drinking do....so yea, they do pay more!

OhDiddums · 03/03/2019 18:54

I was a size 16 and have managed to get to a size 12. I'm 5ft2 so I'm still overweight by bmi. To be any smaller I would eat a lot less than 2000 or 3000 calories.

Cully · 03/03/2019 18:54

I’m on steroids and am finally enjoying food again. I’m a size 14. Thanks for making me feel like shit

Gingerkittykat · 03/03/2019 18:55

I think being overweight has been normalised in our society and a lot of people have lost touch with the type of nutrition needed by our bodies as a result of living in a society where we are surrounded by high calorie foods.

Before people flame me I will point out I am obese, and unhappy being there. I have had help from an NHS group consisting of a dietician and psychologist and it was a real eye opener. The psychology of why we eat the way we do is fascinating.

I am definitely not in favour of fat shaming, people should be accepted whatever their size and aim for health rather than skinny.

hellenbackagen · 03/03/2019 18:55

I was only a size 8 at 7stone 4lb and I'm 5ft 4.

But I sort of see what you mean though you do sound lucky if you are maintaining a size 10 figure on 2000 calories a day.

I'm still slim ish but Middle Aged spread is a thing and I drink too many empty calories...
I'm happy at a 12 tho need to lose 7lb . My 12"S are a little tight and I look dumpy!

I do think there is an obesity issue and a lack of basic knowledge on food and nutrition, and a reliance on convenience foods rather than proper cooking.

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 18:56

Supine it is not normal that a 10 year old girl is 'slim shamed' into anorexia.

It is fucked up.

stevie69 · 03/03/2019 18:56

Am a size 8, it takes a fuck ton of work

Exactly the same for me. I'm aiming to do a bodybuilding competition and if I'm going to take it seriously — which I intend to — I need my body fat to be at an absolute minimum and my muscle definition to be at an absolute maximum.

That's my life. I don't appreciate unsolicited comments (largely from knuckle dragging wankers on my (ex) dating sites) telling me I'm anorexic. I'm not.

I focus solely on where I want to be and don't give a second thought to others' weight, size or portion sizes. Be anything that you want but for fuck's sake be happy Blush

AwdBovril · 03/03/2019 18:57

"What about those who say you're so skinny"

Several years ago I lost quite a lot of weight fairly quickly. I was in a lot of pain & eating made it worse, I essentially developed a fear of eating, I was managing on a couple of crackers & a banana per day, & vitamin tablets. My sister mentioned one day that I looked too skinny & I "needed to stop it now". My family were all aware I'd been ill, my mother had taken me to A&E when I was first ill as the pain was so bad & I was so swollen that they thought I might have a perforated bowel. I was a size 6 but not eligible for NHS help as I was still within BMI healthy range - I looked dreadful, bony, dull skin, I had sunken hollows round my eyes & hair falling out in clumps.

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 18:57

She is a gorgeous slim little normal healthy girl.

HappyMama01 · 03/03/2019 18:58

God I want to smack a packet of biscuits or slice a cake in your mouth.

"80% of people should be 8/10/12"
Screw you.

Supine · 03/03/2019 18:58

Dorsetdays, you're not really getting the point. The OP's opening post wasn't exactly designed to draw people in and have a level headed discussion about the obesity crisis. It was written in a ratty manner, getting people's backs up from the off.

Cornish83 · 03/03/2019 18:58

I was always a size 8 then I had 2 children quite close together and put on 3 stone went to a size 14 and couldn’t shift the weight no matter what I tried and hadn’t altered my diet one bit.
Eventually after a year and a half I naturally lost the baby weight and went back to my original size 8 and now I remain at that weight but never have I altered my diet or exercise so I’v come to the conclusion that we all have a natural weight and metabolism that’s very difficult to alter and all come in different shapes and sizes sometimes I eat crap and sometimes I eat healthy but either way I stay the same. It’s genes, it’s lifestyle and age.... also my mum cooked exactly the same meals for the whole family every day the same size portions for each of us and some family members are overweight and some average and some slim. You are what you are.

HoppityFrog3 · 03/03/2019 18:58

I don't even know where to start with this one.

As I don't want to be hit with the banstick, I will say fuckall. Hmm

Except YABVVVVVV fucking unreasonable.

Mrsmadevans · 03/03/2019 18:58

Go and have a pkt of these love Biscuit

Supine · 03/03/2019 18:59

Supine it is not normal that a 10 year old girl is 'slim shamed' into anorexia.

No it's not. Body shaming never has positive results.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 03/03/2019 18:59

I think you just have to look at OP's user name to see the real intentions of the thread.... Hmm

Samind · 03/03/2019 19:00

@wendy. I feel this is hitting a particular nerve. What's the school doing for your little daughter? Body confidence is key from an early age!!! You see lots of admirable models all shapes and sizes. May be take her through these. I hope she feels better and action is taken at her school but I think saying boys with man boobs makes you any better.
