To think being slim should be normal for most people.

By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

Oh goody a fat shaming thread!! I'm a size 14, eat approx 1500 calories a day, weight train and Pilates ever other day and walk a good 5 miles a day. If I ate 2000-3000 calories a day I'd be a size 26, perhaps I should have my gob stapled shut. People are overweight for many reasons we can't all be as perfect as you op so YABVU.

mentallyfacked · 03/03/2019 18:12

Am a size 8, it takes a fuck ton of work as I have a poor metabolism. Even with the gym and hiit classes I eat 1500-1800 calories a day depending on if it's a lifting day or cardio.

lablewhore · 03/03/2019 18:13

[ooh sits back, grabs tin hat - this should be entertaining]

DevilishDebbie · 03/03/2019 18:14

You can be thin as stick, with poor diet and still have chronic heart disease. Incidentally - you wait till you have a couple of kids and hit middle age, your size 10 smugness will be a far and distant memory

I wasnt talking about health but your right skinny isnt allways healthy. But on average it is healthier.

I don’t feel you can generalise in that way. I’m short and losing the baby weight. My BMI is 28 I’m a size 12 on the bottom. I can be a size 10 and still have a BMI of over 25. I have friends who are female and are almost 6 foot. They will never be a size 8-12 but are a normal weight. I also have friends with big boobs who will never be a size 10 because of them.

Cherylshaw · 03/03/2019 18:15

You do realise that a healthy size is gaged on your BMI and not your dress size? For example if you were 6ft and a size 8 it would probably look unhealthy.
You are only giving the option of 3 dress sizes and not taking into account some one with big hips or boobs who is a healthy weight but say has to wear a size 14 top to accommodate her hooters.
It comes across as you just want to feel superior as you are with in the perfect 3 sizes.
It's boring
And everyone being the same size would be boring
Nothing wrong with a bit of Verity

Prisonbreak · 03/03/2019 18:16

I get what you are saying. We have become so used to seeing overweight people that it now appears normal. So to see someone of a healthy weight is now unusual.

Imissgmichael · 03/03/2019 18:16

Nah OP. Dress size means nothing.

Billballbaggins · 03/03/2019 18:17

🏆 here’s your trophy for being so perfect

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 18:17

@MNHQ Is this really in the spirit of the site?

CloserIAm2Fine · 03/03/2019 18:17

AIBU to think being nice should be normal for most people? There’s far too many smug goady fuckers like the OP

BendydickCuminsnatch · 03/03/2019 18:18

3000 calories???? Jeez that’s double what I usually eat, I exercise a lot and have never been less than a 14 😄

DevilishDebbie · 03/03/2019 18:18

Of course ok but i have to pick a generalised dress size, obviously if someone is really tall or short its different.

I just did a search to see if the first 'we've lost sight of...' had appeared yet. It's stock phrase number 1 for any weight threads.

Fiveredbricks · 03/03/2019 18:19

"skinny isnt allways healthy. But on average it is healthier."

False. They just published studies that show a majority of overweight people who lead average active lifestyles are healthy and in some respects healthier. Surprisingly enough carrying more weight when active can also mean more muscle and cardio. Shocker. But that wouldn't fit your agenda, would it OP?

I'm 16stone, 5ft 7, have more muscle and strenth and endurance than you and have run marathons OP... Go sip your slimline tonic somewhere else.

AltogetherAndrews · 03/03/2019 18:19

No, I think you are talking shite. I have been chubby all my life, from birth to the present day. I’m currently a size 12, the thinnest I have ever been, in the top end of healthy bmi. However, I got here by being so stressed out I was eating about 600 calories a day, and the minute I start eating over 1000, my weight starts creeping back up. My body does not want to be this thin, by the time my size 12 clothes were getting a bit loose, people were starting to comment on how ilunhealthy and haggard I looked.
So your genetics make you a certain size. It’s not an achievement.

Crazynewmum · 03/03/2019 18:20

I’m a size 14 as i’ve got ridiculously large breasts.

Fuck off

TwitterLovesMAPs · 03/03/2019 18:20

All my life I’ve been one of those people who could literally eat whatever I wanted and still be a size 8/10.

But I’ve had two kids, and I’m 40 next year and I’m starting to notice that I need to watch what I eat more otherwise the kilos can creep on.

I suppose my point is I can see it from both sides.

On the one hand I used to get the ‘oh you’re so lucky you’re skinny’ comments all the time. But this was always from people who’d go out and drink 8 Smirnoff Ices every Friday and Saturday and then have a kebab on the way home. One colleague used to come in every morning with a McDonald’s breakfast and moan about being overweight while making digs at me for being slim. I never dieted, I was just lucky I had an ‘off’ switch I guess. I’ve never been able to eat a whole tub of Ben and Jerry’s in one go for example. I’d feel so sick.

But on the other hand, I’m still eating the way I’ve alwats eaten and if anything I do more exercise now than i ever did, yet the middle age spread is seeping under the door and threatening to knock the whole thing down. So suddenly i have to make more of an effort. I could so easily just pile on a couple of stone while still thinking I was eating normally and moderately.

In summary: wait until you’re older and have had kids!

user1457017537 · 03/03/2019 18:21

I know someone who is very smug about how tiny she is and her discipline in going SW to lose any extra pounds she may put on. She’s had boob implants, too big for her, and does she look old and matronly. Karma

DevilishDebbie · 03/03/2019 18:21

2000 for women or 2500 to 3000 for men is normal.

Also its been found food quality is a significant fator in weight loss. At least more than previously thought.

Anyone who uses the phrase "we have lost sight of..." is generally a cunt.

tabulahrasa · 03/03/2019 18:22

“Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10.”

Well how do they know you’re a size 10? And what sort of size 10 are you? I know people that are a 10 and overweight... I’ve been a couple of pounds above the very bottom of a healthy BMI for my height and still a size 12, so I’d have to be abnormally thin to be a 10.

How are we supposed to know whether the issue is that they have a skewed idea of what healthy looks like or you do?

notahiker · 03/03/2019 18:23

I bet you have quinoa and spinach for breakfast.

Samind · 03/03/2019 18:24

This post makes me want cake and custard. 😂😂 We are as a society getting shapelier. I'm not saying bigger but years ago women tortured themselves daily with corsets for an hourglass look and it was the dream to have cheekbones that would cut glass. I'm a size 16 and I have no hang ups regarding my size. I think everyone has different levels of normal for sizing. I don't think you should be so insensitive as to mention what other people are eating around you. Says more about you than it does them.

DevilishDebbie · 03/03/2019 18:24

Saying fuck you or calling me a cunt is not an argument.
