By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

Yeah and the lack of breaks. So a lot of us are exhausted and will just have 2 minutes of shoving biscuits in our gobs then go home and order a takeaway and fall into bed.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 09/03/2019 15:27

I honestly don't blame you. The stress, the shifts, the workload, the emotional and mental load etc. I honestly couldn't do it. Whatever gets you through the day...

Brilliantidiot · 09/03/2019 16:12

Look people, there is an obesity epidemic, however it's obviously not as simple as move more and eat less and stop being such a lazy slob and using excuses. Which is said over and over again.
Maybe if the actual causes were tackled instead of people getting all sanctimonious, we'd get somewhere.
I doubt it'll happen though. People have been shouting 'move more and less less' for a few years - and guess what, there's still an obesity epidemic. Clearly not working is it.

HelenaDove · 09/03/2019 16:14

you might need one of our DC to wipe your backside when you’re in that nursing home? Or treat you in hospital if you have a stroke

Equally you yourself might need treatment from some of those overweight NHS health workers that you so despise.

Would you refuse and insist that someone under a size 16 treats you?

Dorsetdays · 09/03/2019 16:22

@HelenaDove. Again, you’re confusing me with another poster as I’ve never once said that, or even suggested it.

Please read the thread properly before you start being nasty as it indicates you don’t have a valid point to make.

HelenaDove · 09/03/2019 16:30

its not just NHS workers either. My DM was working 12 hour shifts in a factory in the 80s and for the very first time in her life put on weight. She has always been very slim because she doesnt eat. My dad has always struggled to try and get her to eat. She already had major problems with eating when Dad met her in the 60s and was underweight. She still is so has that as a health problem along with the usual other elderly complaints. As well as the others caused by a lifetime of manual work.

HelenaDove · 09/03/2019 16:32

Im not the one being nasty. Im not the one making up bra sizes that dont exist. Im not the one who is concern trolling.

A concern troll will pretend to care (about the opponent's health, well being, political activism, lifestyle, choices, etc.) while in reality, he or she only wants to cause self doubt and fear. A concern troll tries to undermine that which he or she pretends to support

Dorsetdays · 09/03/2019 16:33

@brilliantidiot. It’s not working in those cases because as a society we’ve normalised being overweight and we’ve normalised massive portions, all you can buffets and fast food etc

Dorsetdays · 09/03/2019 16:34

@HelenaDove. And neither have I yet you said that in response to another of my posts (when you moaned about paying tax when you don’t have children).

Think you’re getting confused.

HarrysOwl · 09/03/2019 16:36

@Brilliantidiot completely agree.

HelenaDove · 09/03/2019 16:37

Im very supportive of women with children. I was one of the original Frothers. Been on here for years.

I was just using that as an example to show that your insidious way of thinking could also be applied elsewhere,

HelenaDove · 09/03/2019 16:39

@Brilliantidiot Agree with you too. You are about as far away from an idiot as its possible to get Smile

HarrysOwl · 09/03/2019 16:41

@HelenaDove I didn't know the definition of a concern troll, thanks for that Smile

I can recognise quite a few in this sort of thread.

Siameasy · 09/03/2019 16:44

Not surprised about HCPs being overweight. Cortisol is implicated in abdominal obesity for a start and shift working is stressful as well as the nature of the work being so. When you’re stressed what do you crave?! (Hint-not broccoli)

I agree with Brilliantidiot - the same old same old ain’t working and the NHS needs to wake up and stop pushing its “high starch low fat artificial sweetener” rubbish. That is not the diet that we as humans have evolved to eat.

Any diet relying on long term will power is destined to failure. And asking people to exercise (and build up an appetite) whilst trying not to eat is the stupidest idea ever.

HelenaDove · 09/03/2019 16:51

@HarrysOwl they always pop up in these threads. These threads are to concern trolls what catnip is to cats.

Dorsetdays · 09/03/2019 16:52

I’m not aware that’s what the NHS are pushing, it’s certainly not what I’ve seen anywhere.

The information I’ve seen, like the Eatwell Guide and the NHS weight loss plan, are all very much based on healthy eating which is definitely sustainable long term. Eating plenty of fresh produce, cooking from scratch yourself, making healthier food choices, being more active etc.

Nothing faddy there and totally doable.

Unfortunately, the people hiding behind excuses or ‘concern trolling’ etc etc simply undermine that good advice because it reinforces the incorrect perception that people can’t possibly lose weight because of x, y of z.

People don’t need to be spoon fed more excuses for being overweight, they need proper advice and support which is available in spades.

The low fat message is wrong. They have been cranking out that message since the 70s and it hasnt helped. With me its cutting out sugar. But i have butter and sometimes cheese. People have been frightened off from eating any fat at all and replacing it with sugar and sweetners. Takeaways aside fat is not the enemy.
