To think being slim should be normal for most people.

By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

Helena now yours is truly an amaing achievement!! Well done.

I guess I'll have to crunch some numbers(not biscuits) and rearrange my limits and calories as I probably did get too comfortable.

HelenaDove · 05/03/2019 20:49

Coffee you are in your mid twenties Im guessing that if you were in your forties the weight would have come off a lot slower.

Mine came off pretty quick when i was 29/30 which is when i did mine.

summerisgone · 05/03/2019 20:49

YABU. And silly to boot!

HelenaDove · 05/03/2019 20:50

Sarcasm ta but youve done bloody well too Thanks

Gwenhwyfar · 05/03/2019 20:51

" I had breakfast this morning because I was hungry for it, not because it was "time" to eat. Yesterday I didn't have it because I wasn't hungry til lunch time."

The eating when hungry thing doesn't work for me. If I don't have a meal at a set time because I'm not hungry, the hunger might hit me later on when I'm out and then all that's available is something very unhealthy.

JRMisOdious · 05/03/2019 20:53

Lots of informative posts.

But completely missing the point, they’re not slouches with their algorithms are they? Everyone else got the Transform Your Body ad at the end of their page? 🙄

millythepink · 05/03/2019 20:54

Some of these truths are harsh to hear and I speak as someone who is still 14lbs heavier than she'd like. But it doesn't help anyone, in the long run, by just nodding and smiling and agreeing to the silly 'fatlogic' which has been demonstrated on this thread.

HelenaDove · 05/03/2019 20:55

Gwen Town centres especially run down ones are bloody terrible for finding something healthy to eat Greggs Costa and Kaspas are the choices here

HelenaDove · 05/03/2019 20:59

I have Latitude on mine.

HelenaDove · 05/03/2019 21:02

The dating comment was not very supportive If a woman wants to lose weight she should do it for herself not to improve her fuckability credentials.

Gwenhwyfar · 05/03/2019 21:02

"It's true though. You could eat sugar and chicken nuggets, but if you're at a deficit, you'll still lose weight. It won't be a healthy diet, but yes, you will lose weight. Obviously this sort of diet should be discouraged, but the basic principle still applies."

Bohbell · 05/03/2019 21:16

lovin the usual hypocricy of ppl hurling hatred and abuse at a person and calling her names for asking a perfectly valid question. The ‘why do you care what size people are’ funniest of all.

Why do you care that she cares FFS?!?

Gwenhwyfar · 05/03/2019 21:33

"Gwen Town centres especially run down ones are bloody terrible for finding something healthy to eat Greggs Costa and Kaspas are the choices here"

Yes, but to be honest, even if there's a healthy option if I'm hit with terrible hunger, I'd go for the bad option. That's why just not eating if I'm not hungry doesn't work for me. Regular meals is a better idea for some of us.

I disagree with you that dating doesn't matter though. If you'd like to meet someone, it's pretty important.

OllyBJolly · 05/03/2019 23:20

Sorry Gwen - needing a donut when you're out shopping can't be described as terrible hunger. Hungry and hunger are for when the body is deprived of food. Greed is wanting food you don't really need.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 06/03/2019 01:06

"Fatlogic"

What the fuck is this bullshit?

squeekums · 06/03/2019 01:09

Sqeekums - its not cheaper to eat crap processed food. That's just an excuse
Depends. If i buy a heap of fruit and veg that goes off cos we dont feel like eating or cooking it, ive wasted money.
Im rural and quality is crap for much more.
Its safer to get stuff with shelf or freezer life. I can go to aldi and get frozen spring roll, dim sims and chips for about $6au. To buy fresh to make my own im looking over $25au for all the ingredients
It does work out cheaper once you take in food waste.

don't be surprised if you struggle with your weight.

You assume i struggle with my weight cos i dont like cooking. Ha im forever told im a rake

squeekums · 06/03/2019 01:16

I meet a lot of ppl that say they hate healthy food, love junk etc. Is this because this is what they're used to or is it certain ppl are more susceptible to fat/sugar etc.? I really have no idea, I just wonder because I'm always surprised at the amount of ppl that tell me they "hate vegetables"

I prefer the taste. To me veg needs so much butter and salt for flavour.
The texture of a lot of veg i just dont like. Like i wont eat bananas, the texture is off.
Cooked peas, eww. Frozen peas are ok
I did also grow up with limited exposure to a lot of food

HelenaDove · 06/03/2019 01:16

i just googled fatlogic just out of curiosity

First hit i got? fatlogic reddit. Coincidence?

NameChangeNugget · 06/03/2019 01:43

I agree with you OP

crispysausagerolls · 06/03/2019 06:27

How can adults genuinely use not liking vegetables as a thing?! You have to eat them because they are good for you! So childish

Zoflorabore · 06/03/2019 06:32

I can see my collarbone and I'm proper fat ( especially compared to your definition ) at a 18/20.

my ds has lost over 5st in a year on Slimming World, he was 16 a few days ago so almost 15 when he started the plan.
He looks bloody amazing and he still can't see it.
Instagram etc has a lot to answer for.

Normal is not normal anymore.

PIVOTT · 06/03/2019 08:15

The ‘why do you care what size people are’ funniest of all. Why do you care that she cares FFS?!?

Because the OP is talking about other people negatively and telling others what the 'norm' should be. It's also a valid statement...why would you care what someone else weighs or what dress size they fit into? It literally has 0 affect on you.

Vulpine · 06/03/2019 08:31

Aren't half of AIBU threads about things that don't actually affect people though? It's also a place to just voice opinions. But ultimately an over weight nation does or can affect us all as it has an impact on the nhs.

PIVOTT · 06/03/2019 08:42

And quite often the OP is told it's none of their business. For example, whenever someone posts that they believe a friend or neighbor is committing fraud they are told to wind their neck in, it's nothing to do with them, they must just be jealous etc...

If you're using the strain on the NHS as a reason why you're so concerned about your colleagues weight, there are so many things that cause strain on government funding yet people only feel entitled to comment when it's about another person's weight Hmm

PIVOTT · 06/03/2019 08:50

Also, I agree there is an obesity problem in the UK and we should be able to discuss it and talk openly about it.

That doesn't involve dictating to everyone what 'normal' is and speaking negatively about people. Especially using something as useless as dress sizes which vary more than the bloody weather dependent on which store you shop in.
