To think being slim should be normal for most people.

By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

@notanothernam. Not seen that but there used to be a series a few years back where they swapped the diet/lifestyle of someone who couldn’t lose weight with someone that said they never put weight on and exactly the same thing happened. Think it was a Dr Christian thing? 🤔

HelenaDove · 04/03/2019 19:57

I prefer Talking Pictures TV. They showed Voyage of the Damned last week. Had never seen it before then, Was taught about the war at school of course but not about the voyage of the St Louis. There are loads of gems on that channel and NO reality shows

Bliss.

HelenaDove · 04/03/2019 19:58

Ah yes Dr Jessen A great supporter of women Hmm

HarrysOwl · 04/03/2019 19:59

@brilliantidiot. Lol, no I’ve got an ‘eat Giraffe at home’ advert....not sure what that’s saying to me!

And I've got Travelzoo! Eat Giraffe at home, what IS that for?! Grin

TalkinPaece · 04/03/2019 19:59

@Pixiedust20
a few comments referencing women back in the past that were 'always slimmer' nope they weren't they usually were curvy and a size 14/16
Have you tried on a 1950's size 16 dress?
Its the modern equivalent of a small size 8 .....

RomanyQueen1 · 04/03/2019 20:00

Brilliantidiot

talk about it with a family member and you'll get loads of ads cropping up. They're listening to us Grin

harrysowl

Nobody is saying it's easy, I agree with each one of your examples above and don't judge. For people like me and many others there are no excuses and whilst its hard for others it's still a scientific fact that if you eat less and exercise more you'll lose weight.
However, there will be people who don't fall into your categories who don't need help and support to lose weight.
I know people you mention above and have worked with some and it was the best couple of weeks ever, and so humbling. I was lucky enough to teach entry level life skills at college. Adults unable to cut a potato ended up preparing healthy simple dishes.

HelenaDove · 04/03/2019 20:01

No but i fit into my mums 1970s size 10s

HarrysOwl · 04/03/2019 20:01

Think it was a Dr Christian thing?

Supersize vs Superskinny?!

Dorsetdays · 04/03/2019 20:02

@harrysowl. Apologies if that’s how it came across, definitely not my intention to judge anyone on their weight at all. I had hoped I’d been very clear in all my posts that it’s not something I would ever do.

I suppose I just think we need to act sooner rather than later to turn things round because we’re definitely heading in the wrong direction as a nation 😬

Dorsetdays · 04/03/2019 20:03

@harrysowl. The ad is for Giraffe, the restaurant chain! 😆

RomanyQueen1 · 04/03/2019 20:05

I know this is controversial and realise why, but can anyone remember the vital stats of the Miss World competitors. They weren't super models just normal young women, I think the tallest ones were waist 25" there were lots of 22" that's skinny.

HelenaDove · 04/03/2019 20:07

Dorset it was the fact you posted like it FEELS like bigger people are abused more because there are more of them.

Thats rubbish There is a hell of a lot of sexism in our society directed much more at women than men but there are not loads more women Are you going to tell them its their FEELS.

Dorsetdays · 04/03/2019 20:11

@HelenaDove. No that’s not quite what I meant but appreciate that’s how it may have come across so apologies.

HarrysOwl · 04/03/2019 20:11

Dorset, ah of course, that makes more sense than ACTUAL giraffe Grin

Apologies if I misunderstood you. I spent up until my mid 20s obese and although I'm extremely healthy now, my career is based in health nutrition so it's a subject very close to my heart.

The level of judgement and unsolicited comments you get as an obese adult is absolutely heart breaking. It set me further back when I was out walking for the exercise and had adults name calling in the street Sad.

I was lucky enough to turn my life around and I really feel for those who are unable to, through lack of support etc.

MumOfOne92 · 04/03/2019 20:14

I'm a 12/14 and 5ft2, I'm definitely overweight.

Quertymcquerty · 04/03/2019 20:15

Grin Dr Jessen is the biggest hater of women on social media.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/03/2019 20:16

I’m a right fatty. That said I was under 8 stone (5ft 4) until I hit my early 30’s.
I know why, it’s mainly....
Too much of 🍕🍟🍔🍹
And not enough 🏊🏻‍♀️🤸🏻‍♀️🧗🏼‍♀️🥦🍎🥒🥗.

Am I bothered, yes sometimes (me in a swimsuit isn’t pretty).
Does it make me a horrible, unkind, unpleasant person...NO.
I’m still me inside my size 18 body.

MumOfOne92 · 04/03/2019 20:16

@RomanyQueen1 22in 😱 i couldn't get 29in jeans over my thighs 😂

PixieDust20 · 04/03/2019 20:17

It really isn't an equivalent to a size 8 😂

RomanyQueen1 · 04/03/2019 20:17

Harry

Well done, and I really mean that. I know you have to really want to do it and think the judgement is disgusting.
I'm trying to help my bil atm, he's obese, autistic 39 and borderline diabetic.
He likes his tasty food and unless I can help him find fresh produce tasty I won't help much. He has the added problem of mil enabling and feeding him.

Dorsetdays · 04/03/2019 20:17

@harrysowl. I’m sorry to hear that, people can be really cruel 😞. However, it’s great that you have managed to change things, hats off to you.

RomanyQueen1 · 04/03/2019 20:22

mumOfOne

I could manage the 29" over thighs but I'm only 4ft 10 Grin
I don't think I have been a 22" waist since childhood.
Yes, Miss World was lots of 22" waists, 34" hips and usually 34/ 36 bust.
In fairness though I remember these sizes and they have never affected me negatively, and not consciously thought about those sizes until this thread Grin So Miss World wrong on lots of levels, but not so much on this one.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/03/2019 20:22

'Have you tried on a 1950's size 16 dress?
Its the modern equivalent of a small size 8'

No, I don't think so. When I sew from vintage patterns an old 16 is more like a modern 12. There is a difference, just not as extreme as all that.

HelenaDove · 04/03/2019 20:23

@HarrysOwl. i had that too. But not when i jogged around our housing estate I had encouragement there. It was more the town centre and the posher areas.

Ive been luckier than most though. On the Relationships board you often see threads where the DH is being abusive about his wifes weight but wont do anything he sees as beneath him like childcare so she can excersise. The reason it can be used as a stick to beat women with like this is because of how overweight ppl are seen and treated particularly women.
Well done by the way Thanks

i was obese in my 20s too Lost it when i was 29/30
