To think being slim should be normal for most people.

By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

You have an unfortunate tendency to sneer.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 03/03/2019 22:14

Sorry for jumping down your throat Wendy.

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 22:14

Supine Dorset is more literate than you, I would bet doughnuts to dollars that you are overweight.

Disclaimer... not a medical issue.

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 22:16

Yoursarcasm no problem at all Smile

Samind · 03/03/2019 22:16

Wicked wendy is back 😂😂

MiniMum97 · 03/03/2019 22:18

Dress size means nothing. I am hypothyroid and have put on 2 stone which I hate and I am overweight and look overweight but I am still and size 10 on top and 12 on bottom.

Supine · 03/03/2019 22:20

Supine Dorset is more literate than you

FYI there should be a comma after Supine. But thanks for your feedback on my literacy levels.

I'm sorry your daughter is having a tough time. I can't imagine having a mother who's displayed the type of behaviour you've shown on this thread can be helping all that much.

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 22:20

I'm a famous poet and you should know it.

wicked Wendy More like Wicked Samind insulting everyone and his brother.

I am being sincere.

Samind · 03/03/2019 22:21

Who have I insulted apart from your lovely self???

SpeedyBojangles · 03/03/2019 22:22

Not RTFT but I do agree with the premise in the OP. Being a healthy weight should be seen as the norm, as opposed to overweight. However I would not use dress size as a reliable measure of whether someone is healthy weight or not.

Also, if I ate 3000 calories a day I'd be the size of a caravan in about a week.

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 22:22

literate of illiterate? Hmm

You want a bit of a scrap don't you?

Godbless.

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 22:22

Not sure why it’s sneering to simply point out basic fact? Losing weight isn’t easy but it’s a choice you make unless you have a medical condition.

You can use any excuse you want not to lose weight but they’re still just excuses.

It’s fact that as a nation we are more obese than ever and it’s an increasing problem (no pun intended). Most of that is down to poor choices and I don’t understand the need for that when the information is all around us and easily accessible.

However, I still wouldn’t dream of calling someone nasty names because they were overweight. I also don’t expect to be called names because I’m slim which is what this post was originally about.

Supine · 03/03/2019 22:23

literate of illiterate?

I'm sorry, not sure what it is you're trying to say here.

zod1ac19 · 03/03/2019 22:25

@stopmakingafooloutofme

You are not alone. My consultant gastroenterologist put me on a low fibre diet a few years ago, like you to avoid stomach pain and explosive diahorea (why can I never spell it?) 15+ times a day.

It is the only thing that works but means severely limiting all fruit and veg (surprised you can eat bananas!, I love them but they have an instant effect on me so are on my no-go list ☹️). It also means avoiding wholemeal pasta, bread etc, and most cereals or nuts. Popcorn is a definite no. Basically all the things advised to eat to keep you full for weight loss...

Life is not quite so straightforward as OP seems to think ConfusedAngry but feel free to sit on your high horse and judge us all if it makes you feel better.

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 22:27

Zod1ac. The OP wasn’t judging, she clarified that when she said 80% she was referring to those with medical issues in the 20%.

And it was her colleagues doing the judging but everyone conveniently seems to ignore it when slim people are shamed Hmm

BlooShampoo · 03/03/2019 22:31

Size 14 is only overweight if you’re short. And women’s clothing sizes aren’t standardised.
HTH

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 22:32

zod of the charts for me was any type of salad and not too much fat and no processed food.

Mind you I was a serious case and had to take dead pig enzymes!

I'm fine now though horray Grin

It does depend on everybody.

But I've always been slim and my dear DD being bullied is hideous and wrong, she is normal. I am definitely not a bad mother!

Siameasy · 03/03/2019 22:33

Dorset I do agree. People do not want to hear the truth. The journey to successful weight loss starts with complete honesty and facing up to the fact that yes you are a food addict and it’s an addiction like any other. Deal with it in the same way. Remove the addictive substance. No more excuses and bullshit.

However I would say that the conventional wisdom around weight loss is flawed

Surely if you move more you’ll just eat more?!
Willpower is finite so you need a diet which does not require long term will power

MintyCedric · 03/03/2019 22:34

Perhaps you'd like to tell my thyroid that...Hmm

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 22:34

off

squeekums · 03/03/2019 22:37

Some of the most unhealthiest people I know are very slim. Never excersise, eat crap and smoke.

This is me.
Im a size 6, am forever being accused of an eating disorder or starving myself.
Truth is im genetically lucky and have a small appetite. Ive never stepped foot in a gym, eat what i want when i want, smoke and drink. Never counted calories

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 22:39

Siameasy. You need to burn off more calories than you eat to lose weight, then maintain it.

Exercising does mean you can eat more but if you want to lose weight you still have to burn off the extra calories. However, exercise is also about more than just weight loss/maintenance. It’s about a healthy heart and lungs, bone density through weight bearing exercise and improved mental health etc.

BlooShampoo · 03/03/2019 22:40

And why are the SLIM OH SO SLIM AND SLIM brigade so smug about their supposed sensible choices and self-restraint? Yes, how clever and slim of you to never have had a binge eating disorder, or have never suffered the horrible side effect of massive weight gain from steroids or psychiatric medication.

And no, I’m not overweight. I was, for a year, due to a terrible eating disorder. I have never been one to sneer at people and think that I must be so much cleverer and more disciplined than them because my BMI was lower, but the experience gave me a fair bit of insight, as horrible and traumatic as it was.

Iused2BanOptimist · 03/03/2019 22:40

Look at these children in the 30's. Admittedly some were probably impoverished and underfed. But all those ribs! You'd never see that now.

To think being slim should be normal for most people.
Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 22:40

Siameasy. And the long term willpower issue is why I said it needs to be about changing your lifestyle rather than a fad diet which might give you a quick fix but won’t be sustainable long term.
