To think being slim should be normal for most people.

By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

Surprisingly enough, not everyone's bowel conditions are the same. I can't eat anything fibrous, so most fruit and veg are out, apart from potato and banana which need cooking or are perishable. Certain processed foods are the only foods that don't cause me problems.

Birdsgottafly · 03/03/2019 21:54

@onthenaughtystepagain, so you don't think people with LDs etc, should exist?

Well you can fuck off with that.

TheHumanSatsuma · 03/03/2019 21:54

I can’t comment, I am far too fat to have an opinion.

PortiaCastis · 03/03/2019 21:55

Stopmaking sorry you're having to endure all that, don't know what else to say really so wish you all the best Flowers

expatmigrant · 03/03/2019 21:56

I made my goady comment when this thread was 11 pages in. Didn’t read them because I knew they would be 11 pages of women ripping each other apart and justifying how they manage to stay slim or not. It should not be like that.
I’m slim because i want to be and have to work at it at my age. I was never naturally slim and I put on weight very easily.
I’d like to add that my favourite chubby in work is the loveliest person but also the one who will also stuff the extra cream cake with an ‘ I don’t care’ comment.

StopMakingAFoolOutofMe · 03/03/2019 21:56

hmm do you have a problem with your pancreas

No.

You seem so angry

I'm not in general. I get angry when people fat shame when some genuinely can't help being fat. That's justified.

I really think wotsits and Jaffa cakes aren't the way forward. Salad and protein would help you

Oh really? You should speak to my consultant then, as they've categorically confirmed that I shouldn't touch salad with a bargepole. Any salad whatsoever would see me shitting profusely, which isn't ideal when I can't walk. Interesting how you think that would be preferable to eating poorly and being able to not crap all over myself and my bed.

So on that note, ODFOD.

Supine · 03/03/2019 21:57

Dorsetdays, sadly I don't think you do get it. At all. The sad truth is that a lot of fat people spend years' of physical and mental energy trying to be slim. Most of them know how to cook a healthy meal and what they need to do for sustained weight loss, they just can't maintain the required lifestyle in the long-term. Usually because they haven't addressed the emotional reasons for their overeating. But for people like you it's so easy to be glib and dismissive about lazy people wanting a quick fix.

bourbonbiccy · 03/03/2019 21:58

Op I completely understand and agree with point you are trying to make. I think placing a size on it isn't really an ideal marker but being over weight is more common than it was.

It is far more common now to see obese people and the high streets are "re sizing " to make bigger sizes seem smaller. So when it's reported the average size is a 12 or 14 it's meaningless.

The amount of overweight children I see now really does shock me, it's just so unfair on them.

As you have said there are obviously always that percentage of people who through medical issues or disability can't but yes it's definitely an issue and will be going forward for the NHS ( while we still have it anyway)

Supine · 03/03/2019 21:59

I wish she knew how awful a person you are.

moretractorsplease · 03/03/2019 21:59

Yanbu at all.

so many 'fucks' and 'fuck offs' from others. Not necessary really?

Stop I'm so sorry, maybe greek yogurt would help, something healthy. Yes, bananas are good. Fillets of fish or chicken? Have to be better than wotsits and Jaffa cakes.

Wotsits aren't really food!

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 22:01

Supine. Nope, just hearing excuses now. You’re right though that losing weight isn’t always easy, that doesn’t mean it isn’t doable it just depends on how much you want it. It may well take a few years if someone is obese but giving up shouldn’t be the option.

Unless you have a medical condition then the equation is simple. Eat less calories than you burn off and you’ll lose weight.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 03/03/2019 22:01

I'm really sorry you have to deal ith all that @StopMakingAFoolOutofMe and even sorrier you have to deal with shitty people on top of it.

StopMakingAFoolOutofMe · 03/03/2019 22:02

I can't eat any type of yoghurt. If I could keep chicken and fish in a bedside cabinet for days, I'd eat them. As explained, things need to be non-perishable.

I'm bowing out now. Clearly people have no idea at all how some people have to eat/live and it's just more fun to mock or shame them.

PortiaCastis · 03/03/2019 22:03

Why on earth do people come on here to whinge about colleagues, go into work and tell them to their faces that you think they're fat and you're not. FGS

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 22:03

Stop so sorry, I had a problem with my pancreas two years ago (very serious) and was on a strict diet.

Wotsits and Jaffa cakes woudl have been a definite no!

Hope you feel well soon Flowers

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 03/03/2019 22:04

Wendy stop telling her what to do and what to eat, living with her disability, and beng under the care of consultants, one would assume she already knows what works and what doesn't. It's pretty insulting and frankly mean to assume you know better and keep pointing out that her diet is not good enough.

Supine · 03/03/2019 22:04

Eat less calories than you burn off and you’ll lose weight.

'fewer calories'

Proper context for less would be 'try to sneer less'

Supine · 03/03/2019 22:05

Wendy, not sure you're helping there.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 03/03/2019 22:07

...posted too soon. "she looks better in certain outfits than I ever could have...anything that needs a decent cleavage." Grin

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 22:08

Supine. Whatever, just lose the weight! Grin

WendyCope · 03/03/2019 22:09

I apologised! I had a serious problem, thought it sounded like Stops that is all.

Honestly, greel yoghurt kept me alive Hmm very bad time, I was in a coma for a month and hospital for 5 months after. Horrendous.
I couldn't walk.

Supine · 03/03/2019 22:09

Dorsetdays, try to be less illiterate! Grin

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 22:10

Btw it’s not sneering at all, it’s scientific fact. But keep trotting out the excuses, the only person who can lose the weight is the individual. Unfortunately they aren’t the only ones affected if they don’t.
