To think being slim should be normal for most people.

By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

Get typed a really long post and lost it. Basically I would love to have 2000 calories a day and stay slim nut I am 5ft 1 so not possible. As I am according to NHS BMI obese I am on 1200 calories a day to reduce my weight.
However on the smart BMI sits which takes into account age my health should not my be affected at my current weight. So no I am not a drain on the NHS thank you.
I walk a minimum of 10k steps per day and exercise regularly.
Th is a normal weight but eats crap and is not in great shape
So sad though hearing about kids bein thin shamed. No one should be fat or thin shamed. It does not help anyone.

Footloose80 · 03/03/2019 20:58

Apologies for autocorrect. It hates me but you get the idea.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 03/03/2019 20:58

Dorset yes I eat extra at the weekend as I am at home and have 3 meals a day.
As for drinks sparkling water and diet coke.
No veg ,but I might hve a pear or apple or orange mid morning. I could easily cut that out if you believe it would make a difference.

I've only really lost weight two times once on pills (young and daft) and being pregnant because I could barely eat, and what I did eat either went to the baby or i threw it up(still young and daft for not realising it wasn't normal, and since baby was growing fine no one cared ).

TalkinPaece · 03/03/2019 20:58

Justify it all you like,
but a fat person's bones are the same size as a thin person
a fat person's muscles are the same size as a lean person
only the layer of fat is different

HelenaDove. I don’t recall saying it was the care workers, I said it was the care HOMES. Understand the difference?

Unfortunately their priority is to make a profit and to employe chefs to cook meals from scratch very day is too expensive so instead they dish up the crap they do.

It’s appalling I agree but it’s nothing to do with not being able to afford nutritious food if they wanted to, the cost is in the preparation not necessarily the ingredients.

crispysausagerolls · 03/03/2019 20:59

Pregnancy is not a good excuse!!! I gained. Lot of weight during pregnancy as I was very slim before and concerned with getting enough nutrients so literally stuffed my bloody face and gained 3+ stone BUT, and It has taken 7 months tbf, have lost it!!! And im BF so had to lose it slowly and steadily but I honestly don’t see the excuses around this, it’s completely doable and although it was quite hard I now have no sympathy for others who aren’t able to.

I also don’t understand what stomach condition someone has that means wotsits and Jaffa cakes are a good diet, sorry.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/03/2019 20:59

The pregnancy didn't physically cause the weight gain but mentally it was an excuse I needed to go nuts with food. Because it is lovely to eat whatever you want in large quantities. But unless you are extremely blessed you will put on lots of weight ! And i totally underestimated how flipping hard it is to get the weight off and keep it off .

Elledouble · 03/03/2019 21:00

If you like. I’m 5’9” and a size 14. My BMI is 22.5. So not tiny. I’m healthy.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/03/2019 21:02

I think I thought I'm going to have a big tummy and need bigger clothes any way so why not just go for it !
Silly I know and my midwife wasn't happy. I would advise anyone with that mind set not to do it. I thought the weight would fall off afterwards - how wrong I was !

Supine · 03/03/2019 21:03

I also don’t understand what stomach condition someone has that means wotsits and Jaffa cakes are a good diet, sorry.

Do you really think that's a helpful comment to make to a disabled person who's only given a few snippets of information about their day to day life?

Do you also not understand being sensitive to other people?

Supine · 03/03/2019 21:04

it’s completely doable and although it was quite hard I now have no sympathy for others who aren’t able to.

Ugh.

sizzledrizz · 03/03/2019 21:04

I don't know why I read and post on these threads.
You OP are smug and think your healthier just because you're slim. And you seem proud of your crappy diet, storing up soon to develop health problems that we will all have to pay for eventually.
You might look slim in your clothes, but bet you look shit naked with a diet like that. There, said it.

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 21:04

Well Crispy hopefully you wont ever have to.

The poster you are referring to has disabiliities.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 03/03/2019 21:06

I'm tall with long limbs and carry weight in my middle. So whilst I look 'slim' I can easily pack on some weight and be unhealthy if I don't take care with my diet. I wear a 10/12 depending on where I shop, and haven't ever had to work too hard to maintain a healthy BMI.

Fortunately I love exercise and am healthy and strong, but the whole concept of "why would a pregnant woman gain weight" thing baffles me. I have no idea what I gained throughout my pregnancies, I have no idea how long it took me to get back to my original weight. I also have no idea what I weigh now. I do know that obsessing over your weight and judging others on theirs must make for a pretty weird life; other people's bodies aren't really my problem (aside from the DC's obviously, but even then I don't base their healthiness on their weight but on their physical exercise and diet).

sleepraptor · 03/03/2019 21:08

The problem is that we just didn't evolve for the society we live in. For most of human history there wasn't any sugar (other than honey) and there were periods where there wasn't enough food. So our bodies evolved to stock up when food was available and to want sugar. Unfortunately food is always available (to most people) now in vast amounts and not particularly healthy. So most people have to fight evolutionary instincts to not get fat nowadays.

dragonsfire · 03/03/2019 21:08

I think OP is getting a hard time. Her point was it’s bad to be called skinny just as much as fat. She may have worded but badly but to constantly be criticised or commented on what you eat must be exhausting.

Why is it ok to comment on anyone’s size unless a loved one you have legitimate concerns about.

Skinny shaming does exist & it’s not ok!

The OP isn’t sat there shaming the bigger people in her office it’s them commenting on her!

Vulpine · 03/03/2019 21:08

Lemon cake - perhaps you are not immediately feeling the benefits of not smoking but surely lessening your chances of getting cancer is a good thing - which is why not be too overweight is also a good thing

Vulpine · 03/03/2019 21:09

*being

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 21:09

Sizzledrizz. You haven’t read the OPs post properly. She isn’t the one eating the fried chicken, pizza and biscuits. It’s the colleagues commenting on how lucky she is to be so skinny that are eating that crap and then wondering why they aren’t slim! 🙄

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 21:09

No its @expatmigrant doing that.

DiscoDown · 03/03/2019 21:10

If you can really eat 2000 to 3000 calories per day and stay a size 10, then yes you are lucky! I am not so metabolically blessed and am a size 14 and eat an average of 1400 calories per day (yes, I am sure that's what I'm eating). To lose weight I need to eat a maximum of 1200 and even then it's slow loss. If I ate 3000 calories per day I'd be like Jabba the Hut in a month!

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 21:11

What difference does it make to you Dorset You dont believe people either way.

Klopptimist · 03/03/2019 21:11

sizzle The OP hasn't said what she eats. She's described what her colleagues eat but not what she has.

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 21:12

Yes im sure OP is getting plenty of abuse when she walks past a pub just like i did pre weight loss.

mammoon · 03/03/2019 21:12

Get tae fuck.

I can't stand this sort of smug, ignorant, nasty attitude. You have literally ZERO idea what you're talking about. You may be slim but you are an ugly person.

Get. tae. fuck.
