To think being slim should be normal for most people.

By slim i mean sizes 8 to 12.

Obviously you get a minority who are not in this range naturally but for 80% of people this size should be natural, say they eat a reasonable diet of between 2000-3000 calories.

Im so sick of people at work making out i am abnormally thin for being a size 10. I watch what I eat but dont deprive myself. The same people making me out to be lucky to be slim eat fried chicken or pizza for lunch and seem to be able to demolish a whole pack of biscuits at 3 o clock.

Aibu to think that the normal human man/woman should be a size 8-12 and that to attain or maintain this does not require super human discipline or strength.

People get very touchy on here when you mention weight and being overweight 😐

To me weight is important, I chose (and work bloody hard) to stay at what I call a healthy size (10-12), to me my health is one of my top priorities as I want to stay fit and healthy to see my children grow up and to care for them due to them having sn’s. I am careful what I eat and I exercise every day. That’s my choice and I don’t want to judge others for not doing the same. If you eat the wrong food and don’t exercise then you will gain weight but as long as your happy with that then that’s fine.

Seline · 03/03/2019 20:43

There's too much emphasis on food in our culture I think.

Lemoncakestrudel · 03/03/2019 20:44

I’m more than a size 12. My body has created and grown a healthy baby and kept me alive through life’s trials, so I’m not going to lose weight to please someone who clearly has to learn a new interest or hobby.

As an aside, when I was at school, there were all these posters saying about how healthy you would feel if you gave up smoking. Still not feeling it.

Seline · 03/03/2019 20:45

The one I've never understood is people who say pregnancy causes huge weight gains of say 4 stone. Unless they're underweight originally why would it cause that?

Sparklfairy · 03/03/2019 20:45

Not quite true bibbitybobbityyhat because as her weight grows so will her recommended calorie intake. Heavier people burn more calories.

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 20:46

And blaming care workers in nursing homes saying they cant be bothered was YOU being disingenous Dorset. Because they can only cook what food is ACTUALLY THERE. And the owners of these places buy the processed crap BECAUSE ITS CHEAPER.

Oh come on, Seline. You must have heard of people whose appetite hugely increased during pregnancy or whose feelings of sickness abated when they ate?

Splodgetastic · 03/03/2019 20:48

Bibbitybobbity, I had better watch out or I will be 46 stone when I’m 60! That’s quite scary, as it doesn’t take much to overeat by 300 calories.

I do think there is a big variation on how people carry weight. I can look a bit chubby even though I am an 8 to 10, but a woman who gets on my train is maybe 5 foot 8 and wears a 14 coat, and I think she is pencil thin. So no, I don’t think 8 to 12 is right for everyone. Someone who is four inches shorter than me could be a 6 in today’s sizes and not particularly skinny. I would say a range of 4 to 18 is probably going to cover most people and it is very individual. I would say most people need to keep an eye on what they eat and weight to stay in the so-called normal BMI range unless they have very physical jobs or do lots of sport.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/03/2019 20:49

Seline- my pregnancy didn't cause the 4 stone weight gain , I used it as an excuse to over eat and I knew I was over eating. Granted I was quite slim before hand , around 9 stone, and almost 13 stone when I have birth . I was huge ( for my frame) and it took me ages to shift.
You are very correct in saying it should not cause that kind of weight gain , but it was my fault , I knew I was being silly

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 20:49

im very surprised people are willing to post such nasty posts @expatmigrant Particularly now.

Supine · 03/03/2019 20:49

All the chubbys at work are sitting there stuffing their faces and yes I sit there in my mid 50's, 2 DC, size 8-10 and fit smugness plainSpeakingStraightTaking

You sit in work with your two children under a sign saying plainSpeakingStraightTaking?

Papillon45 · 03/03/2019 20:50

I’m obese and a size 16. I eat a good diet, my portions are probably too big though and I exercise regularly. If I ate any more than 1500 calories a day I would put on weight. I obviously need less than that to lose it. Pre kids I was a size 8-10 and a healthy weight, but definitely not skinny (I 24). I had a very unhealthy diet and ate very, very little. I put on loads of weight when pregnant as I started eating properly as I was scared I would harm my baby with my awful diet and low calorie intake.
i get what you’re saying about overweight being the new normal so people thinking your healthy weight is underweight, but really maybe you shouldn’t judge them either, everyone is different and unless you’re 6ft tall or a sportsperson eating 3000 calories a day and being a healthy weight is unrealistic for most people!

Papillon45 · 03/03/2019 20:51

I’m very short btw at 5ft tall

Dorsetdays · 03/03/2019 20:51

Yoursarcasm. You’re obviously the exception to the case, it’s just incredibly unusual for someone to eat less than 1,000 calories and be overweight, although if you’re virtually sedentary all day then it may be possible.

You really only have two drinks a day and no fruit or veg (except for some pickles)?

You also have straight away said that on ‘some’ days you eat more than 1,000 calories and don’t know the values of some of the foods you eat so I would genuinely be surprised if you really are eating as little as you think you are.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 03/03/2019 20:52

Well I never understood why women gain weight in pregnancy either. Actually why don't they lose it? That's what I did, a whole whooping 15 kgs lighter straight after birth. I weighed less than when I got pregnant. I looked great (nvm that I was puking blood because my stomach lining was fucked and had two rotten teeth).

Oh wait, all women are different and have different needs and different pregnancies and reactions .

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 03/03/2019 20:52

I had always made an effort to eat healthily and go to the gym to stay in shape, for 9 months I thought sod it! And it was wonderful. But afterwards I just felt awful and other mums at the baby group got back to the pre pregnancy shape a lot quicker. I just felt so hot all the time carrying the extra weight, I was miserable

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 20:52

And i bet when you need the "chubbys" as you call them to cover for you at work they suddenly get your respect @expatmigrant
Cos "come the wet ass hour they are suddenly your daddy"

Seline · 03/03/2019 20:53

Don't at least you admit it wasn't the pregnancy that caused it.

Supine even if your appetite increases, just eat lower calorie foods? I have such severe sickness in mine that by 18 weeks with twins I'd actually lost weight and had a smaller bump than most singletons. So I'm maybe not the best person to judge but 4 stone just seems excessive

bobstersmum · 03/03/2019 20:53

Are you the same person that thought it impossible to be a mum and fat due to never sitting down?

earlyrisingcat · 03/03/2019 20:54

I am completely with you devilish. All the chubbys at work are sitting there stuffing their faces and yes I sit there in my mid 50's, 2 DC, size 8-10 and fit smugness plainSpeakingStraightTaking

slow hand clap Hmm

What a nasty goady post. @expatmigrant

Supine · 03/03/2019 20:55

Agreed.

PortiaCastis · 03/03/2019 20:55

Oh more nasty bollocks

Siameasy · 03/03/2019 20:55

I put on 4 stone as well brolly. And it was so easy-I made all the excuses to myself and I felt so sick all the time all I wanted was carbs, sweets and sorbet. I was pretty pissed off with myself for doing it.

Luckily it’s all gone now 🙌🏻

HelenaDove · 03/03/2019 20:56

You can bet the two faced so and so would expect them to cover for her at work if she had an emergency though.

i once had the pleasure of telling one of my bullies to shove it when they asked for a favour.
