To be so happy for Olivia Coleman?

I don't give 2 shiney shits about the Oscars, who wins, what they wear. It's just not something I've ever had an interest in.

Having said that I saw Olivia Coleman won best Lead Actress and watched the accompanying video.

I'm so pleased for her. It obviously means a lot to her and she is one of Britain's greatest actresses who has really done a great slog to get where she is and I've enjoyed so many of her shows and films.

Congratulations Olivia.

I've also just watched her after interview thing with the press questions. Christ that's worse.

Whisky2014 · 25/02/2019 17:12

No, she didn't. The winners don't know in advance. oh god im it saying someone told her... I'm saying i think she'd have had a pretty good idea she was going to what with all the fuss about her and the film previously.

EjectorCrab · 25/02/2019 17:13

She seems bloody lovely. I’m very pleased for her. Not seen the film yet though.

Absofuckinglutely · 25/02/2019 17:15

I find her false, agree on the faux humility. Would rather Glenn Close or Gaga had won.

NunoGoncalves · 25/02/2019 17:18

I'm saying i think she'd have had a pretty good idea she was going to what with all the fuss about her and the film previously.

That doesn't make any sense though. A fuss has been made of the films and actresses of all the nominees. That's why they're nominated. And I'm sure they all would have been aware that the overwhelming favourite was Glenn Close.

Whisky2014 · 25/02/2019 17:22

Honestly I'd not heard ANY fuss except about her and the Favourite

southeastdweller · 25/02/2019 17:26

Colman’s film had ten nominations and The Wife had only one, so yes, seven time nominee and Hollywood royalty Close was the front runner but Colman always had a strong fighting chance of beating her (and she did win over Close at the Bafta’s a couple of weeks ago).

lunicorn · 25/02/2019 17:29

I don't think it's faux humility. I think the combination of being a humble type, being a chatty type, being an actooor and winning and Oscar leads to an acceptance speech that's a bit ditzy and gushy.
I'm pleased for her

sailorsdelight · 25/02/2019 17:29

I love her! She’s an excellent actress and thoroughly deserved the Oscar. Glenn close was great in The Wife but The film wasn’t that good. I don’t think she’s anything other than a fairly normal person and thought her speech was lovely, emotional and genuine.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 25/02/2019 17:32

She was good in Peep Show Grin

I’m really pleased for her. Also Remi Malek really deserved his too.

HoppityFrog3 · 25/02/2019 17:35

100% agree. Colman is a legend. LOVE her. And well done to her. Grin

lolaflores · 25/02/2019 17:38

The 5 a side football match. She's hungover and projectile vomits over the wall.. she plumbed depths of utter embarrass t that makes my toes curl and laugh.
And Ben Willbond is in it, which Is always a bonus.
And Tyranosauraus. Utterly terrifying.
She works hard. Well done

HoraceCope · 25/02/2019 17:39

i too have a wee crush on tom hollander, might entice me back to the church Wink

Drookit · 25/02/2019 17:39

I thought her speech was cringy.
I didnt enjoy the film and can't see what all the fuss is about.
I do think she is an excellent actress and if I'm thinking of the right person, I love that she wet herself laughing on stage as detailed in David Mitchell's autobiography.

Bowchicawowow · 25/02/2019 17:42

I am really pleased that she won. I haven't seen the film yet but I have loved her in everything I have ever seen her in. Her career will go stellar now and deservedly so.

I am also really pleased for Rami Malek. He was brilliant as Freddie Mercury. I thought his speech was wonderful and what a lovely tribute to his girlfriend.

Missmarplesknitting · 25/02/2019 17:43

I know people who have worked with her on TV/films more than once, and she's genuinely as lovely as she comes across. A really nice, caring person and a good giggle.

Whisky2014 · 25/02/2019 18:07

Just watched Rami Malek's speech...THAT'S how it's done.

Clawdy · 25/02/2019 18:11

I really like her, very glad she won, but I thought her dress was awful.

longwayoff · 25/02/2019 18:22

Horacecope, you wouldn't be so keen on Tom if you'd seen what he had in the cellar last night. Oh dear. Baptiste, 9pm, Bbbc1 Sunday. Recommend.

Bowchicawowow · 25/02/2019 18:25

I saw what was in the cellar and I still have a crush.

SunnyInGrimsby · 25/02/2019 18:40

I was disappointed when Olivia Colman said in an interview that she had done no historical research for playing Queen Anne.

I thought her portrayal of Queen Anne was lazy and cliche ridden - history has revised the queen's poor image (based largely on disputed memoirs of her disgraced frenemy, the Duchess of Marlborough).

Hardly a great 'feminist' film as it pandered to lazy misogynist stereotypes. As for the rabbits and racing lobsters, this never happened.

I wish Glen Close had won it; she was quite brilliant.

Alsohuman · 25/02/2019 18:47

It never pretended to be a feminist film or a documentary for that matter.

ShirleyPhallus · 25/02/2019 18:49

I was disappointed when Olivia Colman said in an interview that she had done no historical research for playing Queen Anne.

She explained quite clearly why she hadn’t though. She said they have researchers who look in to this stuff for years and years beforehand and she thinks it’s disrespectful to them in thinking she can do research in the few months before they start filming and somehow know better than everyone who put the scripts etc together

Dowser · 25/02/2019 18:54

Hated the film

Hazlenutpie · 25/02/2019 18:58

I love her and I'm really happy that she's won an Oscar.
