I don't give 2 shiney shits about the Oscars, who wins, what they wear. It's just not something I've ever had an interest in.

Having said that I saw Olivia Coleman won best Lead Actress and watched the accompanying video.

I'm so pleased for her. It obviously means a lot to her and she is one of Britain's greatest actresses who has really done a great slog to get where she is and I've enjoyed so many of her shows and films.

Congratulations Olivia.

I wish Richard E. Grant had won too, he is a wonderful actor.

thecatsthecats · 25/02/2019 09:57

Not fair? It's not primary school. You can be nominated as many times as you like without a win.

Andromeida59 · 25/02/2019 09:58

I'm glad she won. I think she's fantastic.

CaptainHammer · 25/02/2019 09:58

I’ve loved Olivia Colman since Peep Show so I’m really happy she won.

bridget yes!! It irrationally annoys me so much when it’s spelt wrong!

ALemonyPea · 25/02/2019 09:59

I love her, loved her speech. Felt sorry for Glenn though.

HaventGotAllDay · 25/02/2019 10:00

I've only seen her in Broadchurch and agree she's a brilliant actress.
I thought the speech was rubbish though. And the raspberry blowing made her look very silly.

CoolCarrie · 25/02/2019 10:01

I think she is great!
you can go to a fee paying school, work as a cleaner still have no fucking money, maybe she wanted to work for her own money, not handouts from her parents. Give your head a wobble

MuseumofInnocence · 25/02/2019 10:01

How can people who have never met Olivia Colman think she is fake? I'm pleased for her too. Can't really say it is a long overdue accolade though, as it's not as if every great actor should or will receive an Oscar

golddustwomen · 25/02/2019 10:04

I feel so happy for her too!! Absolutely love her. I think she's so genuinely lovely and thankful, also a brilliant actress. I first saw her in Tyrannosaur years ago, she completely blew me away.

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump · 25/02/2019 10:06

I don’t know who she is. I don’t know who GlennClose is either though.

HoraceCope · 25/02/2019 10:06

I have always loved her, She is absolutely brilliant in everything she does,
Fantastic in the Favourite.
Green Wing
Tyrannosaur
Fleabag
you name it, What a star, Just Love her
She so deserved it

Birdsgottafly · 25/02/2019 10:07

Glen Close will have to make do with an eventual lifetime achievement award.

I haven't seen The Favourite, but I wasn't keen on her in the second and subsequent Broad Church episodes.

I hate the invention of WC/poor roots. "I've worked as a cleaner", fuck off.

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 25/02/2019 10:07

I love Olivia Coleman didn’t see The Favourite and don’t usually much care about the Oscars but she’s great and her speech was lovely she seems so much fun.

Chimchar · 25/02/2019 10:07

I've not seen any of the nominated films, but I was really pleased she'd won, just because!

I know someone who had worked with her for a long time. She said that Olivia is the nicest person you could ever wish to meet...funny, kind, genuine. I like that. Smile

Birdsgottafly · 25/02/2019 10:08

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump, do you not watch films then? She's been in children's films as well.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2019 10:08

I bet she gets really fed up of people spelling her surname wrong.

Loved her in Green Wing.

HoraceCope · 25/02/2019 10:10

oh and 2012

Lllot5 · 25/02/2019 10:10

I think she’s great seems very down to Earth. She mentioned being a cleaner because that’s where she used to practice her Oscar acceptance speech.

CoolCarrie · 25/02/2019 10:11

She is great in Rev with Tom Hollander

HoraceCope · 25/02/2019 10:11

What's not to like frankly

MeredithGrey1 · 25/02/2019 10:15

She grates on me so much.

Me too. I think she's excellent in everything she's in, she was brilliant in The Favourite, but whenever I see her interviewed or giving a speech I find her so annoying. Obviously I don't know her, but it always comes across as such a put-on manner of "oh gosh, aren't I just so silly and ditzy."

DoJo · 25/02/2019 10:15

I was privately educated and have worked as a cleaner - not everyone waltzes out of the doors of their school and into a job in investment banking. I imagine that is particularly true of those who pursue acting careers. Is there literally nothing a woman can say or do that won't attract spite and criticism?

I like Olivia Colman but didn't really rate The Favourite at all. It felt too much like I really should like it but just couldn't. Was also cross because I was trying so hard to like it as the ticket cost over £15!

Much preferred Glenn Close in The Wife.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 25/02/2019 10:17

I think she's a great actress, it was a well deserved win. Poor Glen Close though! I hope she does win eventually.

Also yes, give your head a wobble whoever doubted her being a cleaner. She's an actress, she likely did have very lean years getting started and established, no matter where she came from. I was privately educated including 2 years at public school and then went to a Russell Group uni and on to a very well regarded pgce course... and then I changed track completely and worked in retail for four years barely turning a penny. Would you like a 5p bag for those assumptions and judgements of yours?
