Seeing DC for the first time

What is that feeling like when you see your DC for the first time?

My mind can't actually comprehend it and I can't imagine what it's going to feel like when I do finally give birth!

I'm dying to know what he's going to look like 😍

I shouted several times that I couldn't see him when they said he was out (c section) and "I want to see him now"

"Is he definitely a boy"

Then as he was being seen to at the other side of the room I shouted "is he ginger" no idea why.

I also remember being very surprised that he was a baby, like I was expecting ing a litter of kittens or something!

A few hours later I was crying because I loved him

Sunkist12 · 24/02/2019 21:29

#1 straight after delivery to dh - did you sit on the stool they offered you? (Dh) erm, that's not what they meant by stool Grin

#2 omg, she's massive! 9.4lb girl

amrscot · 24/02/2019 21:29

@Yorkshirepudding1987 is he ginger 😂

"Thank god that's over "

"The baby is purple"

"Thank god that's over"

About five minutes later..."is it a boy or a girl?"

StylishMummy · 24/02/2019 21:32

I saw both of mine for the first time in incubators and they terrified me, almost translucent skin, not an ounce of fat on them, fingers so tiny they didn't look real. But I still went 'oh, it's you' in my mind. That little nudge and flicker on the inside is being caused by this strange intangible person, then they're suddenly there in front of you. There's no rules for how to feel, took a good few days to feel like my babies were 'mine'

Maidsamilking · 24/02/2019 21:33

My first child.... 'Wow she looks like squashed up!' (traumatic failed vaginal, failed ventouse and emergency c section) but also feeling so very exhausted.
My second child. (Less rushed emergency c section) 'Wow he looks like a cross between Norman Wisdom and a potato!' but cried and cried with love /relief.

Samind · 24/02/2019 21:34

Couldn't believe she was ours to take home. Kept thinking despite being pregnant for 9 months that she was someone else's cause she was so lovely. It's so strange and amazing 🥰 also gas and air sort of took away my initial reaction. First thought was I couldn't work out why I was so cold but had stripped off mid contractions 😂😂😂 best feeling ever though

EssentialHummus · 24/02/2019 21:34

I didn't recognise her, iyswim. Apparently I said "Hello" as they handed her to me, which DH found funny. (But we were meeting for the first time, so...)

Nameisthegame · 24/02/2019 21:34

I thought damn your an outside child now there’s so much more to protect you from, and how much hair she had and how teeny tiny she was. Then she wouldn’t eat or breastfeed and I was like damn you will eat! And she did eventually lol 😂 she was breech for a week then turned crazy thing it was only the day before the c section that she went the right way...

tor8181 · 24/02/2019 21:35

with no 1 it was finally you have come out as i was 15 days over and 4 days labour, and shit your long as he was 26 inches and 8lb with massive feet

2nd baby was fuck your big no wonder every thing came out after you(all my insides came out after he was forcepted out) as he was 8llb 10 and 27 inches, i was also so grateful i finally had a 2nd baby as i had 4 years of fertility treatment to get him and a long pregnancy as i found out at 2 weeks and he was 10 days over

amrscot · 24/02/2019 21:36

It sounds really weird and I don't know if anybody will know what I mean but did anyone feel like they just "knew" their baby when they met them for the first time?

DS1 - oh, so that's what you look like, so small & delicate, he's beautiful
DS2 - he's much bigger than DS1 & he's got no hair
DS3 - he's here, he's big & I'll never go through that again thank God!

twooutofthreeaintbad · 24/02/2019 21:36

My first thought was just wow, we made, grew and gave birth to this beautiful child and she's ours

sar302 · 24/02/2019 21:36

Ahaha! He was handed to me over the sheet, at which point I said "I'm going to vomit" and he was whisked away. I then slept for about 15 hours. After that, I remember just staring at him thinking "Christ how did you fit inside me?? But, like, how??"

Cla9 · 24/02/2019 21:36

I genuinely thought he was a little red alien.
A few hours later when the pain relief wore off I just lay staring at him and felt so glad he was here!

Glitterblue · 24/02/2019 21:38

I almost passed out! In my defence, my DD was born at 27 weeks and only weighed 845g. I didn't meet her till she was 24 hours old, I was in agony after my section and due painkillers and NICU was roasting hot. I got a shock at how tiny she was, DH had shown me photos but that did not prepare me at all for just how tiny she was.

ATailofTwoKitties · 24/02/2019 21:39

'He didn't look ginger on the scan...'

(I'd had a good time with the gas and air.)

Houseonahill · 24/02/2019 21:39

The first thing I said was "does she have hair I wanted a hairy one" she did have lots of hair Smile

Accountant222 · 24/02/2019 21:40

A boy, a boy it must be someone else's because I was so sure it was going to be a girl

nicenewdusters · 24/02/2019 21:41

After a pretty long and scary delivery I remember being amazed that this tiny little person had made it unscathed into the world. We looked at each other and I remember saying in my head "Let's go!" It was like my world had changed in a second and we were off somewhere new. Most wonderful feeling ever.

picklemepopcorn · 24/02/2019 21:41

Bloody hell, he's enormous! How the hell did he fit?
Followed by: is he ours? He doesn't look anything like us! (Funny looking thing with black kinky hair, dark skin and puffy closed eyes- I'm pale and freckly).

No 2 was more of a 'ok, you look more like I was expecting. Look at the size of you!' (10lb5)

DishingOutDone · 24/02/2019 21:41

First daughter I thought she looked like the man I sat next to at work...!! Confused

CripsSandwiches · 24/02/2019 21:41

I honestly just felt dazed it wasn't a sudden rush of love or a feeling of him/her being mine. Although I do remember with my first in my tired, hormone addled mine thinking he was the most gorgeous baby in the world and being surprised that people weren't making more of a big deal over how amazingly beautiful he was. I guess the love felt like a continuation of how I felt for them when they were inside and just grew and grew her the next days and weeks.

LellyMcKelly · 24/02/2019 21:43

Mine was just ‘Ah, there you are. You’re finally here’.

codenameduchess · 24/02/2019 21:43

'That's not a tiny baby!' After being told the baby was tiny and not growing and I needed to be induced early... she was 7lbs 6 at 37 weeks so not tiny and hulked out of the tiny baby clothes we had 😂

I also remember feeling like I needed a shower, I was soaked in sweat and couldn't remember it but knew poop had come out as I did remember dh asking why it 'looked like buttons' 🤦‍♀️ he's never forgotten that.

After that it was overwhelming love and terror. She was so fragile and I'd never changed a nappy or dressed a baby! Now she's 3, fearless and seemingly unbreakable but still the most perfect, amazing little thing.

Enjoy it op.
