Holly Willougbys boobs on Dancing On Ice Tonight.

There is this women on Twitter going on about how it’s not ok for “family viewing” before the watershed?

How the hell is a bit of cleavage offensive to children?

Am I being dim here? I can’t see anything offensive about it at all?

It's not about being scandalised OP.
It's about equality.
And if you can't see that women are objectified as something sexual by the media where men are not that's quite sad. Especially as you have a daughter.

BertrandRussell · 26/02/2019 07:41

Ah, yes. Jealousy. Can’t possibly be any other reason for not wanting little girl’s role models to present in an overtly sexualised manner.

QuirkyQuark · 26/02/2019 08:01

@Peakypolly

I am really upset at the idea your DD will misunderstand this.

Why? Why would you be 'really upset' about my 20 yr old dd misunderstanding this? I taught her that she doesn't need to have her breasts on display just because her friends might go out like that. I taught her it's her personal choice and not an expectation to look this way because it's expected of women to look 'sexy'.
Why people are deliberately misunderstanding what I've put is beyond me.

PBo83 · 26/02/2019 08:24

Yes, but men ARE sexualised by the media too, think Poldark, think of the abs on show on Love Island, think of countless examples in advertising.

In this instance, the two can't be compared. Holly wears a wide variety of outfits where as there are few choices for the male presenter so it usually defaults to a suit. Do you really want to see Philip present the show in a muscle vest?

TwitterQueen1 · 26/02/2019 08:43

It's nothing to do with jealousy Totaldogsbody.

Whether she realises it or not, Holly is ITV's page 3 girl. The show is a mass media platform for an attractive woman to show off her breasts in order to gain attention and viewers. She is being portrayed as a sex object and it's completely inappropriate for a family show and as others have said, sends out all the wrong kinds of messages.

The fact that she's not showing nipples is irrelevant - it's a game of how low can I go and how much flesh can I show without actually crossing that nipple line.

I have a lot more respect for the original page 3 girls/women. They knew exactly what they were doing and why, and the readers knew what they would see.

Pishogue · 26/02/2019 08:53

Yup. Just like my anti-monarchy position is jealousy that I'm not wafting down the aisle of Westminster Abbey on the arm of one of the Wales boys. Grin

Dahlietta · 26/02/2019 09:28

Wonder also if the same people scrutinise the male presenters to check their not wearing trousers too tight

NOBODY post the Terry Wogan pic...

derxa · 26/02/2019 09:31

Do you really want to see Philip present the show in a muscle vest? I'd rather not see him at all.

JaneJeffer · 26/02/2019 09:39

I don't find it particularly attractive on her either. Another thing I don't find attractive is jealousy which is what the comment is really all about. Some people just can't bear it when they see someone else look more attractive than them.
So if you don't find it attractive it's not attractive but everyone else who doesn't think it's attractive is just jealous?

Walkaround · 26/02/2019 09:43

You didn't exactly need to scrutinise Holly Willoughby's dress to see it was very low cut. Nor would you need to scrutinise a man's clothes to notice if he were covering an equally small proportion of his body (particularly if every move he made looked like more still might accidentally be revealed). It would be extremely comment-worthy if a male presenter on a family TV programme exposed that much skin to the world!

Peakypolly · 26/02/2019 12:00

QuirkyQuark because your DD will think I am trying to look sexy when I am in fact, a large breasted woman trying to look my best.
Emma Willis, Claudia Winkleman etc. look fabulous I agree. I also think Kelly Brook, Charlotte Church etc. can also look fabulous. Why should those of us large of boobage cover up our natural shape? It is not our fault that cleavage is sexualised.

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 26/02/2019 12:47

I think she looks very elegant.
Sexy, but in a tasteful way.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/02/2019 12:51

Well a couple of weeks ago James Jordan sported a pair of ballet tights which left absolutely nothing to the imagination?

Indeed!!! 😁

pigsDOfly · 26/02/2019 13:08

It's a bit of cleavage fgs.

When you think of all the crap that passes for entertainment these days: so called celebrities acting up and doing stupid irresponsible things for tv programmes, half naked contestants getting steamy with one another on programmes like love island, not to mention all the videos of semi naked recording artistes that even young children will watch and try to emulate with their dancing, and yet people are gasping in shock about Holly Willougby showing a bit of cleavage.

Bloody ridiculous.

Alsohuman · 26/02/2019 13:21

Naked Attraction, anyone? And don’t say kids don’t watch it because it’s freely accessible on any smart TV.

Cottongusset · 26/02/2019 13:26

I find Holly Willoughby offensive with or without cleavage.

OMGithurts · 26/02/2019 13:32

Ballet tights are an appropriate outfit for dancing, whether male or female. Nobody is complaining about the outfits the skaters wear. But that dress fit badly, looked uncomfortable, and was out of keeping with what the rest of the presenters and panel were wearing. Not offensive, but not a nice dress, and clearly only selected by the wardrobe department because Boobs. And here we are all talking about it and giving them lots of nice publicity, so Holly getting 80% (roughly not scientific) of her breasts out did the job nicely.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/02/2019 13:44

What image was she trying to portray by wearing something so impractical and revealing?
Impractical for standing there and reading an autocue? And it really isn't that revealing! Yes it's low cut but there's no risk of her accidently exposing the children of Britain to nipples or female crotch!

Please can someone explain why this is offensive?
Walkaround · 26/02/2019 14:59

But it looks exactly like there's a risk of the dress slipping down still further and revealing her nipples. Her breasts don't look large enough for the dress - too much dead space for them to slip out of. It would be considerably more flattering to her figure if it looked like the dress fitted her properly. It's not like she would look less shapely with more fabric over her chest - she would still clearly have a small waist and neat bust, it would just be less anatomical and more practical and she would be able to move more naturally in it. I'm fed up with the weird way many female presenters stand and move in dresses like that - and it really does look odd the way they hardly move all night, because their stupid dresses are only designed for standing still in.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/02/2019 15:08

I watch most of it on fast forward part fro mtbe dancing. How much does Phillip move? I think if you're sat there worrying that it's going to fall down you need to be handed a grip to cuddle

calsovip · 26/02/2019 15:08

Another thing I don't find attractive is jealousy which is what the comment is really all about.

"Jealousy" is such a lazy argument, tbh. Not only is it condescending and dismissive, it also seeks to invalidate any other point someone makes because "oh no, you're just jealous".

Walkaround · 26/02/2019 15:16

SleepingStandingUp - no need for grips to cuddle, just plenty of memories of people whose breasts have slipped out of their dresses. Not the best sort of dress to wear when leaning forwards to serve yourself from the buffet... or to dance in... or to walk in... basically, a really stupid sort of a dress.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/02/2019 15:19

Th

K God there's no buffet in Dancing On Ice

Walkaround · 26/02/2019 15:33

Thank God the female presenters just stand there like mannekins looking useless.
