AIBU?

To think this cafe needs to rethink their message to customers?

Seen this on Facebook today from a cafe -

So we are a dog friendly cafe which is completely acceptable by health and safety as long as the dogs don’t cook your food or enter the kitchen 😡 so don’t give us a hard time if you don’t like dogs because we like dogs better than humans - note don’t give Vicky a hard time over happy dogs because Vicky will always defend the dogs

Now I have a bit of a fear of dogs and wouldn't expect to see one in a cafe and I'd be a bit pissed off if I paid good money for food and drink only to be bollocked by "Vicky" if I didn't like a dog in my face Hmm AIBU to think it's not a good message to tell your paying customers that they come second to another species?

@mydogisthebest I'm glad your dogs give you such joy. Just as well for me that I'm not desperate to own a dog as my DH is allergic to them. I like other people's dogs, though.

Thankfully for me, he isn't allergic to cats, and I now have 4 of them. Grin

But children bring far more joy and unconditional love than they do heartache and despair

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

They also (usually) live longer than 14 years and are faithful companions until you die.

Have you not seen all of the "I've gone NC with my parents" threads?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Are you feeling ok Schauden? What's funny?

Well I didn't think I'd need a disclaimer that said "as long as you're not a cunt of a parent" but consider it an addendum.

And once again, because alarmingly people don't get this - dogs can't do things children do like go NC. If they could I'm pretty sure a lot of the dogs mentioned in this thread would.

You're right @FrancisCrawford . A few murderers here and there blows the whole parent-child love thing out the water. Well done. Best drop mine off at the local orphanage Hmm

But if we're playing that game - dogs will only bite you, shit on your carpet and piss your neighbours off. Think of the people who's newborns have been mauled to death and how they must feel about their dog

In what way is she ‘far from nice’? You’re making some fairly inflammatory statements there.

I’ve never been bitten by my dog

I still have faint scars on my wrist where my childhood dog bit me over 40 years ago (he was protecting my dad in a play fight). My children never bit me.

Gunpowder, SOME children may bring more joy and unconditional love than they do heartache and despair but a hell of a lot don't.

As for them being faithful companions until you die what a load of bollocks. That is mainly true of dogs but certainly not true of children. My DH had no contact whatsoever with his parents for over 10 years before they died. I know quite a few people who never see their children. Even if close what if they emigrate to Australia?

Soupdragon, no we chose not to have children. The world is overpopulated enough without us adding to it plus we wanted to give our marriage a chance without children ruining it.

Nothing I have seen from my friends' children has ever made me feel I have missed out. On the contrary it just makes me glad that we chose not to have any. I have see the heartache and real despair that some children cause. Even if children were absolutely perfect with no problems I still would not want any. Dogs are much easier and more cute

Can't actually believe this thread has descended into comparing dogs and children..?!

I know.

Dogs are immensely superior. But they're still not as good as cats.

@mydogisthebest

The world is overpopulated enough without us adding to it plus we wanted to give our marriage a chance without children ruining it.

This is one chestnut that is always thrown in by childfree people to make their decision not to have children a moral one rather than just a personal choice which they have every right to make.

Also, the world in its entirety might be over populated, but in the west we have an ageing population. Hence in France, the government pays families extra if they have more than 2 children. This was because the population was declining rather than increasing. I got this from a good friend who married a Frenchman. I don't know if that's still the case, this was over 10 years ago. Possibly not, in view of increasing immigration.

Who is going to contribute taxes to pay for NHS costs (if there still is such a thing in years to come) for when you're elderly and infirm?

And I'm not trying to justify my decision to contribute to the over population of the world, as as DH and I adopted our DDs, so we're not guilty on that score.

As for your statement that dogs are more cute than children, that's very much open to debate! I love my cats, but I would never say they're more cute than my DDs (though it's true that they don't do backchat 🤣).

Yes, children can go NC. But your life partner can divorce you or cheat on you. Human beings cause each other pain. Any type of relationship with another human being is by definition taking a risk.

Dogs are definitely not as cute as guinea pigs. And guinea pigs are veggie so their poo doesn't smell.

I note you did not address the fact that dogs can and do run away, thus going NC with their owners, something you claimed they cannot do

I thought this comment was tongue in cheek/ it's not quite the same though is it?

Making this my last argumentative post on here, as it's getting boring and nasty.

I hope people still post funny stuff about it though, and I might show my appreciation of that

Both obviously. Children when they're potty training and I think it's mostly puppies before they've been trained out of it.
