To call my children names that rhyme?

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 19:00

Is it really that bad? For clarity - we don't want them to rhyme - it's just the name we like for our soon to be born daughter rhymes with that of our son.

I know it's annoying when people are cryptic on these threads so my son's name is Theo and we want to call our little girl Cleo. they have a Greek dad hence the names that work in Greek and English - and also we want short names as their surnames are very long! We don't do middle names.

So is it really awful - or should I not care what people might think and just call them what we want? Will it set us all up for a lifetime of confusion?!

If it is really that bad - any other name suggestions? I'm running out of ideas!

I did this by accident (small age gap extreme sleep deprivation). Nobody seems to notice. If they do they are too polite to say anything.

SaucyJack · 22/02/2019 19:02

Lovely names on their own, but really dreadful together. Sorry.

Feeebeeee · 22/02/2019 19:02

I wouldn’t- would be hesistant if both just ended in o but would probably say to go ahead but both of them ending in -eo is just too much and sounds almost comical

lostfrequencies · 22/02/2019 19:03

I wouldn't, sorry OP. I do like both names but not together.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 22/02/2019 19:04

Theo and Cleo is fine.

I thought you were going to say you were having triplets and calling them Huey, Duey and Louis Grin

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 19:04

Lovely names on their own, but really dreadful together. Sorry.

This is what I suspected but didn't want to hear....

The names are fine OP

SabineUndine · 22/02/2019 19:05

I think you would get funny comments. In one of Bill Bryson's books he mentions an invented family with children called Ronnie, Lonnie, Connie, Donnie, Bonnie, Johnnie and Tammy-Wynette. Grin

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 19:05

The annoying thing is I think I prefer Cleo to Theo!!! Should have had some foresight...

Love both names but just awful together and a bit embarrassing for them growing up too.

Plural · 22/02/2019 19:07

I think it's fine! It'll be a minor talking point but people will move on

DisplayPurposesOnly · 22/02/2019 19:07

The names are fine, but everyone will think you chose them to rhyme whether you like it or not!

Melissa works well in English and Greek. Sounds nice alongside Theo Smile

I'm not that brave...

Cleomena? Then just shorten it to Cleo.

My DCs have a rhyming vowel in their names that we didn't notice until after the second name was registered.

FlagranceDirect · 22/02/2019 19:09

It's a shame but yes, it sounds comical.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 22/02/2019 19:09

I personally wouldn't. Practice saying it out loud 'I'm cow creamer and this is theo and cleo'. There are also websites where you put in a name and it gives you similar suggestions eg Clara, cara, ciera, coco etc

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 22/02/2019 19:09

I have an acquaintance with Molly and Olly, sounds utterly ridiculous

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/02/2019 19:09

They’re not fine together, they’re reall not good.

blingybaubles · 22/02/2019 19:10

I know someone with two kids called Charlie and Charlotte, so go for it 🤷🏻‍♀️

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 19:10

This is a good point to consider - I don't care if people think I'm a bit batty but don't want to embarrass them (well obviously I will want to at times - but at my discretion!)

The names are fine, but everyone will think you chose them to rhyme whether you like it or not!

This is what I suspect too... Not sure how much I care though... Need to think about it a little more

Lovely names but a bit too cutesy together like characters from a children’s book

Babysharkdododont · 22/02/2019 19:10

Sorry but they sound like names of pooches when put together in a pair, although are both lovely names separately

MaverickSnoopy · 22/02/2019 19:13

Lovely names awful together. Wondering if you could get away with calling her Clea..... not as nice as Cleo though...

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 19:13

Hahaha! Harsh but fair!

Mixed views but I think the consensus is more along these lines - damn

Could Cleo be Chloe instead. They are a bit sing-songy together.
