To call my children names that rhyme?

Is it really that bad? For clarity - we don't want them to rhyme - it's just the name we like for our soon to be born daughter rhymes with that of our son.

I know it's annoying when people are cryptic on these threads so my son's name is Theo and we want to call our little girl Cleo. they have a Greek dad hence the names that work in Greek and English - and also we want short names as their surnames are very long! We don't do middle names.

So is it really awful - or should I not care what people might think and just call them what we want? Will it set us all up for a lifetime of confusion?!

If it is really that bad - any other name suggestions? I'm running out of ideas!

Thalia (one of the nine muses).

Lois is Greek too, I think.

OunceOfFlounce · 22/02/2019 19:15

Love them individually and together.

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 19:15

Lovely names awful together. Wondering if you could get away with calling her Clea...

Hadn't thought of Clea - might ponder on that for a while - thanks!

It's a bit Phil and Lil isn't it? I wouldn't do it.

But I've already told myself I can use either India or Claudia if this one's a girl, but not go for the unused if we have another DD in future because I can't have two dd's with names ending in -dia! That's overthinking for you Grin

LeadMeToTheChocolate · 22/02/2019 19:16

Nope, I’d def avoid rhyming names!!! It’s awful!

Houseonahill · 22/02/2019 19:16

I had a friend called Jamie growing up who had a sister called Amy, no one ever teased them as such but did usually laugh upon first meeting them. They were twins though so don't know if that made it worse?

LeadMeToTheChocolate · 22/02/2019 19:17

Ahhh Phil and Lil!!! 🤣🤣🤣

daisypond · 22/02/2019 19:17

Can you not spell Cleo as Clio or Kleio? That's the Greek name, I think, isn't it? Muse of history? Not Cleo as in Cleopatra. That way, although the sound is similar to Theo, it looks much more different.

Pinkprincess1978 · 22/02/2019 19:18

My children's names rhyme, it wasn't deliberate as such. Both have the same number of letters and end in the same letter. If we had, had another then we would have deliberately chosen a name for them that fits the pattern.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Never had one comment and my DC's don't mind.

JacquesHammer · 22/02/2019 19:19

I was at school with the oldest of a family who had 4 further siblings with rhyming names.

littledoll33 · 22/02/2019 19:19

It's a WEE bit cringe.

Sorry, JMO.

Theo and Cleo. /?? Sorry no.

Sorry. Blush

Letthemysterybe · 22/02/2019 19:21

Cleo is a fab name but too similar to Theo imo.

What about:
Clara
Sadie
Kat/katie/katerina
Tessa
Chloe
Lexi

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 19:21

Phil and Lil!!!

This is not a bad idea although people won't know how it's spelt when you say it will they - plus I love the Cleo spelling although Clio is nice too

I'm so tempted but I do think I'll be spending my life saying - we didn't want them to rhyme - we just liked the names!

Thanks for all replies - you guys have been great - what's this AIBU nest of vipers I keep hearing about doing tonight?!!

Really lovely names.....BUT not when used together!
Sorry OP!

Changedmynametoolikeyou · 22/02/2019 19:22

I know a Sharon and Darren and we teased them as kids. I still think it’s pretty funny. Cliona is another nice option. Not very Greek though.

northernsouljunket · 22/02/2019 19:23

Do you think you might go on to have a third child? Theo, Cleo and Sofia for example is fine.

StitchingMoss · 22/02/2019 19:24

Don’t change the spelling! That’s even worse!!

Awful pairing - you definitely need to think of something else for your DD Shock.

notyourmummy · 22/02/2019 19:24

Clea would get my vote, but I don't have any issue with rhyming names, if accidental. My son has a fairly common name and my daughter's name is unusual, people often comment on it, but it's really no one else's business what you choose to call your own children!

OldNo7 · 22/02/2019 19:26

What about Clara?

FurrySlipperBoots · 22/02/2019 19:26

I think they're beautiful names, but just too similar to use together! I think you'll always end up mixing them up and saying one when you mean the other, and they'll both look up when they hear the 'eo' sound (as they were only half listening) and get confused as to who you're addressing.

I'm a Vicky and my sister is a Katie, and our mum is always mixing and matching our names! We're not at all alike either, but it does get very annoying!! It's nice to have completely your own identity.

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 19:27

Just showing these responses to my husband and making him chuckle! I do really value the input though as anyone I've spoken to in real life has clearly not wanted to offend me and said oh it will be fine!

Clara is nice - thanks - I also like Cara and Lara - not Greek but...

daisypond · 22/02/2019 19:28

Clio is the normal traditional spelling - the Muse of History. Kleio is the Greek spelling. Cleo is the variant, alternative spelling - relates more to Cleopatra.

BeetGo · 22/02/2019 19:29

Both lovely names, but you can't have them together. It does sound a little silly when you say them together and they may get teased at school.

Selene is Greek isn't it. Have a look through and see if any other names work.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 22/02/2019 19:29

I wouldn’t give it a second thought tbh.

Oysterbabe · 22/02/2019 19:30

No you can't, it sounds awful.
