To call my children names that rhyme?

Is it really that bad? For clarity - we don't want them to rhyme - it's just the name we like for our soon to be born daughter rhymes with that of our son.

I know it's annoying when people are cryptic on these threads so my son's name is Theo and we want to call our little girl Cleo. they have a Greek dad hence the names that work in Greek and English - and also we want short names as their surnames are very long! We don't do middle names.

So is it really awful - or should I not care what people might think and just call them what we want? Will it set us all up for a lifetime of confusion?!

If it is really that bad - any other name suggestions? I'm running out of ideas!

Also knew an Ari, I think short for Ariadne. Dad was Greek but I don't know if actually a Greek name admittedly.
Theo and Ari

I think it's fine how often as an adult does your siblings name get mentioned with yours. My sisters name doesn't get mentioned with mine. They're separate people. My boys have sort of rhyming names Reuben and Eben

pioe · 22/02/2019 20:47

I could have written this post op! I love Cleo, also have a Theo and a Greek DH! Dammit. I had written it off. But just came to say I love it! What about Flora/Flo or Maria, or even Ana?

Beeziekn33ze · 22/02/2019 20:49

I think Theo and Cleo are fine. Fred and Ed agree with me! If that's you and your partner want, go for it!

youaremyrain · 22/02/2019 20:51

Practically speaking, in the future when you are shouting their names, the first sound will be lost (Th/Chl) and upstairs with their headphones in, they will hear a faint "eeeeoooo!" and plausibly dismiss it as being you calling their sibling...grrrrrr

youaremyrain · 22/02/2019 20:52

Oh and Clo (klo) is toilet/loo in German

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/02/2019 20:53

Do it OP - it's worth it to have a Cleo Smile

also know two called emma and dale

I know a Ross and Dale (Rossendale). I just remembered - I also know a Sasha and Dasha.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 22/02/2019 20:53

I think they are fine. And also nice individually. People will just get used to it once they have the names.. It will be a 10 second wonder. If you like the names who cares what anyone else thinks. There's an age gap so its not like they are twins or in the same class or anything.

AuntMarch · 22/02/2019 20:55

Actually it could be worse. I know a Sam and Ella

cowcreamer · 22/02/2019 20:57

You could try a more gentle "Cleo give that to mummy" and if your son responds then you know it's going to be an issue.

Very good point!

Do it OP - it's worth it to have a Cleo

This is what keeps dragging me back! I love it so much.

h and Clo (klo) is toilet/loo in German

hmm... not good

I could have written this post op! I love Cleo, also have a Theo and a Greek DH!

I know sisters names Evie and Ivy. I think they sound kind of silly together.

Try saying them out loud as if you're shouting on them in the park/playground/supermarket and see if you feel silly?

llangennith · 22/02/2019 21:00

Glad you have a sense of humour OP😄 I like both names but not together.
Probably not helpful but how about Clementine nn Clemmie or Cordelia nn Cordie?

MargotSimpson · 22/02/2019 21:01

I love the names. Would be a shame to not use Cleo since you love it. How about Clementine and shorten it to Cleo?

IWouldBeSuperb · 22/02/2019 21:03

I don't know if it's Greek, but I know a Cleome (klee-oh-me) who is Cleo for short -

I always thought it was a gorgeous name - and you could use it for introductions (or when you're shouting for them both in the park!) etc. to avoid rhyming, while still using Cleo as a nickname?

HolidayReads · 22/02/2019 21:04

@cowcreamer I'm one of three and our shortened names that we are known by all rhyme. We've never been taken the piss out of, people actually always comment on how cool it is! Go for it!

SpacePenguin · 22/02/2019 21:04

I don't think there's any thing wrong with using them together. Lovely names. I know a family with 4 (young) siblings with rhyming names. It's not the first thing you notice about them by any means!

Fizzytonicplease · 22/02/2019 21:08

Eleni
Connie
Eva
Poppy
Iliana

Cleo is lovely, i say just go for it unless you find another name you love.

EstrellaDamn · 22/02/2019 21:09

Aria
Phebe
Asta
Katica (too long but I sort of love it!)

This is good to hear!

I like Aria but does it come across a little pretentious? Not sure... Plus I suspect you would always be clarifying the pronunciation ie that it doesn't rhyme with carrier...!

Ari is cool but is it actually a name in its own right?

wyoudo · 22/02/2019 21:16

I work with an Ari, it’s short for Arielle in her case. She’s Israeli

Deliaskitchen · 22/02/2019 21:24

There’s two brothers that are Dewi and Lewi in my DC’s school.

EstrellaDamn · 22/02/2019 21:32

Oh, in my accent it totally rhymes with carrier! Grin
