It's called Fences.
It's essentially a monologue from Denzel Washington.

Perhaps it's supposed to be a study on social injustices at the time, but I have endured 40 minutes of it and literally can't take one more second!

Please don't tell me that this is some sort of award winning film and that I'm a bit thick or something?

I'd heard the title before which is why I thought it would be good. 40 minutes in, and literally nothing has happened. Except yer man ranting on and fucking on and fucking on.

I love Denzel usually, and his acting is good, but fuck me, the writing is pure and utter unadulterated shite!

DS1 likes pretentious films. What’s that black and white one with Bill Murray in it?

What shite.

FruminousBandersnatch · 21/02/2019 08:14

I thought Roma was beautiful - the scene where she has the baby and the the long take on the beach were stunning.

My nominations for tedious films include The Notebook (overwrought) and Pi, which I think I'm too thick to understand.

FruminousBandersnatch · 21/02/2019 08:16

Oh and I hate absolutely everything Wes Anderson has ever done. So, so self indulgent and navel gazey and smug. No no no!

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 21/02/2019 08:18

What are some of the films you do rate Dohee?

Dohee · 21/02/2019 08:18

I didn't like The Notebook either! Lol.

Just give me Rocky or something. I'm easily pleased.

I was saying £10 more or less for cinema, as popcorn and a drink costs £5!

I actually loved Titanic for personal reasons.
The Karate Kid
Stepmon
Man on Fire
Shrek!
Pretty Woman

I'm a bit dumb lol. My taste is dumb.

Hang on, it wasn’t Bill Murray it was Michael Keaton. It wasn’t black and white either Grin

Birdman.

thatone · 21/02/2019 08:24

Haven't see that on OP but loved Roma.

The worst film I've seen recently was The Dinner. It has Richard Gere, Laura Linney, Steve Coogan and Rebecca Hall - some fairly decent actors but the film was absolutely dire. I kept thinking it would improve but it just sort of fizzled out.

diddl · 21/02/2019 08:33

Oh yes-Moulin Rouge-glad I'm not the only one!

The Holiday.

TheFirstRuleOfFightClub · 21/02/2019 08:51

Primary Colors - dog shite! We got it on video when it came out. John Travolta, Emma Thompson, Kathy Bates, Larry Hagman. Pure crap.

The Revenant - Boring, dull and boring. I watched it again the other week because I thought I may have watched it at a bad time, nope, still rubbish!

Gravity - Absolute bobbins! I love space films, i love Sandra Bullock and don't mind George Clooney. What was that steaming pile of vomit they inflicted on us?

I absolutely love Moulin Rouge, I've seen it so many times and now my older children love it too. I've got Vanilla Sky on my Sky box because I love that too.

Loved inception, Interstellla, The Martian.

Marigold Hotel, the place you go to when you retire, that's a really good feel good film.

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/02/2019 08:54

ET, fell asleep at the cinema and I've still not seen the whole film. Dull, dull, dull.

TheFirstRuleOfFightClub · 21/02/2019 08:54

My husband loves Cat Woman with Halle Berry, can't see it's the plot he loves! 😂

TheFirstRuleOfFightClub · 21/02/2019 08:56

Disfordarkchocolate We had ET parties when it came out, we'd watch the video all dressed up as Elliot with the sheet and all cry together.

Harveyrabbit76 · 21/02/2019 08:56

Have you watched The Proposal? I love it, i think its because it reminds me of old hollywood movies.
I dont mind titanic really but i watched it at the cinema and i was desperate for the loo, all that running water did not help! So bad connotations

CocoDeMoll · 21/02/2019 08:58

I tried watching mama Mia once with a friend. Had to actually turn it off halfway through it was so cringy and shit.

Grimbles · 21/02/2019 09:04

@HipHipHippo - The Room anyone?

Why, hiphiphippo, why?

You're tearing me apart!!!!!!!!

SinkGirl · 21/02/2019 09:07

YABU - Moulin Rouge is fantastic

I also love Dogville, but then I’ve always loved a good bit of Brechtian theatre, I can understand why some people don’t.

To be fair, a lot of the films recommended in this thread I absolutely hate, so I guess we have different tastes!

I’m not a fan of romcoms generally but Crazy Stupid Love is brilliant if you’re looking for something that’s lighthearted and fun but also quite touching.

Grimbles · 21/02/2019 09:08

I liked inception although more accurately I liked everyone except Leo in Inception.

Guilty pleasures for me are:

Pacific Rim
Role Models
40yr Old Virgin

Also, lovers of crap films should check out the Disaster Artist which is a film about the making of the worst film ever (The Room, mentioned above)

CocoDeMoll · 21/02/2019 09:09

I still don’t really understand inception Blush

HostessTrolley · 21/02/2019 09:15

@dancinfeet - really? We all fell asleep before the end so I never did actually find out. Boyfriend is history long ago but we still laugh about how cringey it was, couldn’t look at each other (they were about 16) as mortified, but didn’t want to show too much interest in the screen either 😂😂

Loved titanic and all the films on your list @dohee but just have a soft spot for proper shite. Nice to have some suggestions to look up. Husband rolls his eyes and goes to bed

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/02/2019 09:18

TheFirstRuleOfFightClub I'd have been under a sheet having a nap. The older I get the more I want to enjoy a bit of escapism, preferably with The Rock in.

PettyContractor · 21/02/2019 09:20

I liked Dogville.

Cheeeeislifenow · 21/02/2019 09:20

I really enjoyed that movie!!

icannotremember · 21/02/2019 09:21

I saw Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil at the cinema.
It truly was awful. I spent the entire film waiting for something to happen. But if it did, I missed it.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 21/02/2019 09:27

I rarely turn off a film, somehow I think it is rude to only watch half....falling asleep is another matter

anyway, Lost In Translation, Burn After Reading, The Big Lebowski ...dh loves TBL ...all complete arsegravy
28days later...I did watch, hoping against hope it would be better, 28 weeks later....ten minutes that got and then OFF!

I quite liked Falling Down though...all that simmering rage, it's cos I am not that keen on Michael Douglas and I think that is how he is, so less a film and more a biopic :o
