to think that I have started to watch the worst film ever made?

It's called Fences.
It's essentially a monologue from Denzel Washington.

Perhaps it's supposed to be a study on social injustices at the time, but I have endured 40 minutes of it and literally can't take one more second!

Please don't tell me that this is some sort of award winning film and that I'm a bit thick or something?

I'd heard the title before which is why I thought it would be good. 40 minutes in, and literally nothing has happened. Except yer man ranting on and fucking on and fucking on.

I love Denzel usually, and his acting is good, but fuck me, the writing is pure and utter unadulterated shite!

Oh thank God I'm not the only one. I'm not the most cultured of individuals, so figured I would be alone in the wilderness of my artless emptiness. God almighty. I do hand it to Denzel, his acting is good, but holy shit, what a boring piece of crap!
Anyway, I've decided to watch Dear John. I'm starting work at 4am, so hopefully this one won't annoy me and will be a little less arty lol.

*Blades of glory is not a shite film!!

NunoGoncalves · 21/02/2019 01:31

Very! I rarely give up on films halfway through. Even bad ones, I usually finish just out of vague curiosity. But I have zero regrets about turning Roma off. No way anything interesting was going to happen.

Dohee · 21/02/2019 01:34

@BartonHollow That was my first impression actually, this was written for the stage, not the screen.

OP posts:
BartonHollow · 21/02/2019 01:34

I suffered it all and can assure you it didn't just lots of long shots of the ocean, puddles hallways and dog shit set to the soundtrack of birds chirping and dogs barking

Spartak · 21/02/2019 01:35

The film with Sandra Bullock floating around in space was the worst one that I've seen. Utter tripe.

BartonHollow · 21/02/2019 01:36

Same director as Roma 😂

NunoGoncalves · 21/02/2019 01:37

It started off badly. A long silent credit sequence of water on the floor. Then in the first scene, there's a long shot of her going into a small room and closing the door behind her, and the viewer gets to look at the door for 30 seconds until she comes out again. WTF? From then on I was just waiting for it to make amends but it never did.

Film critics/the Hollywood awards bubble are a bunch of idiots.

Dohee · 21/02/2019 01:38

Spartak I watched that piece of crap too years ago! Was it George Clooney in it with her? God above.

OP posts:
Dohee · 21/02/2019 01:39

Well I now know to avoid anything that has won an award. I'm a woman of simple tastes lol.

OP posts:
Spartak · 21/02/2019 01:41

Yes, even lovely George couldn't save the film. Two hours of my life wasted.

BartonHollow · 21/02/2019 01:42

@NunoGoncalves

I have everything crossed that the Oscar voters will give it to Spike Lee

Cuarón already has an Oscar

Spike has paid his dues and deserves the recognition

Blackkklansman is phenomenally good

But is quite harrowing viewing so i doubt I'll rewatch

246oh1 · 21/02/2019 02:13

Can't be as bad as the almost 2 hours I sat through Annihilation- a film my friend had raved about endlessly.. boring, never ending, faux-'deep'... i no longer accept my friends recommendations!

Smotheroffive · 21/02/2019 02:15

My god that Sandra Bullock one, wanted to gauge my eyes out!!! Dreary dreary.

Moulin rouge otoh fucking brilliant, amazing and on my most rewatchable list.

The shape of.water description puts me in.mind of another appalling piece of.shite inhave tried to.watch and thrown in the towel with. It does all kind of space scenes and galaxies and weird shit. Just never-ending.

Roma another no.

HelenaDove · 21/02/2019 02:20

Forces TV have started running a trailer for the original Equalizer series which they are going to repeat soon The Edward Woodward one.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/02/2019 02:20

Demelza, I watched the original (Abre los Ojos) and really didn't enjoy it, but thought perhaps my Spanish hadn't been good enough to understand it fully. I decided to watch Vanilla Sky to give it a fair chance.

It wasn't my Spanish that was the problem...

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 21/02/2019 02:45

Dohee, I never watched it and don't plan to, but thinking that because he's Bipolar and has ADHD, that he should hit is wife his quite offensive to be frank. I have both and I've never hit anyone (save from a school fight, but it was a bully and I stood up for myself.)

You really should educate yourself tbh.

Your world seems quite small.

Aquamarine1029 · 21/02/2019 02:49

I thought you were talking about Titanic. Worst movie ever.

Dohee · 21/02/2019 03:01

MissLanesAmericanCousin
I guess you should watch the film! In the film, he comes across as having something like ADHD. For the 40 minutes of it I watched, he didn't hit his wife. It's not that because I presumed that diagnosis that I think he would, it's because you're waiting for him to do it! It's like a hollywood movie perfectly exemplifying coercive control. You'd really need to watch it (or a bit of it - because I'm not sure man could endure the entire film) to see what I'm talking about.
If you haven't attempted to watch it, my comments wont make sense. Watch it and come back to me.

OP posts:
Dohee · 21/02/2019 03:11

And I did not anywhere state that he was going to hit his wife because of either of those.
You get the impression from his monologue that there is something not quite right with him.
You also get the impression from the same monologue that he could blow up at any time (frankly, I spent 40 mins waiting for that).
The film or the character doesn't make much sense as I said, which makes it boring to watch. How the character behaves makes no sense.
The wife appears mildly afraid of him, but not totally.

Sorry, you'd have to see it to understand what I mean.
God, am I condemning more souls to watch this?

OP posts:
Dohee · 21/02/2019 03:11

The character is utterly not true to life. That's my main issue with it.

OP posts:
Dohee · 21/02/2019 03:13

Basically, you have a ranting husband and a very calm relaxed wife. It just doesn't add up from my experience of life.

OP posts:
MissLanesAmericanCousin · 21/02/2019 03:19

But why ADHD? My husband has that too, and he is the kindest most big hearted human being I have ever met in my life.

I'm sorry, but I think you're being very presumptuous about this. You come off as quite humorous actually, and quite likable but you also seem a bit arrogant and quite insular. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Which, kinda sucks, because you seem the type that I might enjoy having drinks with (if I drank. HA!) but the who lack of awareness when it comes to MH is really grating. Most people with MH issues are quite passive actually. I don't know. It sucks, because I think I could really like you.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 21/02/2019 03:20
