It's called Fences.
It's essentially a monologue from Denzel Washington.

Perhaps it's supposed to be a study on social injustices at the time, but I have endured 40 minutes of it and literally can't take one more second!

Please don't tell me that this is some sort of award winning film and that I'm a bit thick or something?

I'd heard the title before which is why I thought it would be good. 40 minutes in, and literally nothing has happened. Except yer man ranting on and fucking on and fucking on.

I love Denzel usually, and his acting is good, but fuck me, the writing is pure and utter unadulterated shite!

Haven’t seen the film, but the play was written by the brilliant August Wilson, was a) amazing, (starring James Earl Jones) b)?a huge hit, c) award-winning and d) loves by critics. So I suspect you are suffering from social media induced short attention span syndrome and are unable to appreciate the genius of August Wilson.

The one that was one man standing in a phone booth for hours on the phone...enthralling, gripping...can't remember who it was though.

BartonHollow · 22/02/2019 18:13

It was Colin Farrell

Smotheroffive · 22/02/2019 18:14

Oh thanks Barton !

thebatman · 22/02/2019 18:38

The Pledge, Jack Nicholson obsessed cop looking for child killer, Bringing out the dead, Nic Cage Paramedic losing his shit on the job, Leaving Las Vegas, Nic Cage drinking himself to death, Mosquito Coast, Harrison Ford not being Indy, never, ever ever again.

Even though I hate dislike Will Ferrell, I actually quite liked Blades of Glory Grin. I like Ewan McGregor but Moulin Rouge was a terrible film. Gravity was OK, probably helped that I saw it in the cinema in 3D (and George Clooney was in itSmile). The night we saw Gravity we (me, my DS and his friend) were planning to see American Hustle, now that was shite. Adam Sandler has made some terrible films which as both my DCs like him I've had to sit thru, I think his career peaked with 'The Wedding Singer' which I absolutely loved, all the films that followed were terrible.

SusieOwl4 · 22/02/2019 18:53

I love moulin rouge and loved the shape of water .

The worst one recently was the Ghost ? I think it was Ben Affleck under a sheet ? It was just boring . I did not get past about 20 minutes and that was too long .

Only walked out of a cinema once , 2001 a space oddesy.

tinydon · 22/02/2019 18:54

Fences - utter tripe. Roma - don’t understand the hype. Thanks MN.

mozart12 · 22/02/2019 22:59

@hostesstrolley

Haha i really like moulin rouge! Also i think the babadook is supposed to be weird 😂 probably in a cult way.

Drag me to hell... now there’s an awful film and i saw another one i think called the devil inside! I very nearly walked out of the cinema 😂

mozart12 · 22/02/2019 23:00

@SusieOwl4

I absolutely loved the shape of water 😍😍😍

mozart12 · 22/02/2019 23:03

@Mumphineasandferbmadea

Yes i took the mum’s depression to be the babadook also. I did enjoy that film x

SusieOwl4 · 23/02/2019 00:08

@motzart12 the shape of water is a deep film not to be taken at face value and the cinematography is great . I think it’s about loneliness and love and power. But I can see how it could divide opinions.

Dohee · 23/02/2019 00:49

Oh I do like anything with Colin Farrell in. Even In Bruges was bearable haha.

NunoGoncalves · 23/02/2019 00:52

And what?? In Bruges is bloody brilliant!

Dohee · 23/02/2019 01:00

Lol, I'm a philistine lol. Leave me alone.

pinkandsparklytoo · 23/02/2019 01:06

I don't tend to turn off a film once I have started watching. The three I have are Lalaland, Bridesmaids and Fight Club. Overhyped nonsense.

BartonHollow · 23/02/2019 01:43

In Bruges is fucking amazing and I won't have a word against it.

If you Loved In Bruges try and see The Guard, similar dark comedy vein also Brendan Gleason - brilliant

Smotheroffive · 23/02/2019 02:08

I missed Bruges Barton literally caught all the spoilerz so ruined it for myself!

BartonHollow · 23/02/2019 02:17

It's STILL worth a watch for the dialogue alone

Smotheroffive · 23/02/2019 02:19

Ah, well, OK then. I might if it comes so highly recommended Grin

morningconstitutional2017 · 23/02/2019 08:44

There many candidates for worst film ever. I too sat through' Moulin Rouge' on tv and was eternally grateful not to have parted with good money to see it at the cinema.

One of the best films is 'Casablanca' - but the first 30 minutes are bone-crushingly dull.
Oh, and 'The Way We Were' needed a good half hour or more trimming from it. I was literally squirming in my cinema seat and could barely wait for it to end.

Crinescene · 23/02/2019 09:33

Welcome to Marwen takes a bit of getting used to. Flicked between “real life” and fantasy and very disconcerting. Gave it half an hour and googled the plot later.
