AIBU to ask you to explain missing ironing board

Hi,

This may seem trivial to some but it has totally freaked me out to the extent I am spending the night with friends. Please help me see reason!

Yesterday, I had a meeting which required a more formal outfit that was nice and crisp. I have an ironing board which is rarely used but ha ALWAYS been placed in the coat cupboard in my corridor by the front door. However, when I went to retrieve it yesterday it was NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. I am disturbed as I can come up with no logical explanation as to why it was missing. The last time I used it was 3 ish weeks ago.

  • I live on my own in C. London
  • My visitors arrive on foot, tube etc
  • I would notice if they walked off with the ironing board- it is 100% not in the flat.
  • Why steal a rarely used ironing board
-I live in a secure building with the concierge (until 7 pm)

AIBU to ask you to please explain this. I'm really unnerved. Am I crazy? What would your natural reaction to this be?

Did a neighbour come and borrow it and forgot to give it back?

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 20/02/2019 21:19

Have you used it to surf the Internet?!

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:20

SandAndSea It's a rented flat and I have no desire to spend time/money doing it up.

It will be with a big bar of chocolate that went missing from a MNetter's handbag earlier this week

In the stomach of a pesky tennager? Now that would be freaky Grin

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:21

I don't interact with my neighbours beyond small talk. Don't even know their names.

Shamelessly placemarking and hoping for a bizarre ending - I love threads like these

Anothertempusername · 20/02/2019 21:25

OP please don't just disappear leaving us all wondering. We're super invested now

Asta19 · 20/02/2019 21:25

Ok you know how everything is made of atoms? And some people have spontaneously combusted? I think sometimes items can just go “poof” and cease to exist! I think we can all think of something we have lost that we never found again, in circumstances similar to yours. In the end we give up and stop thinking about it. My most recent one was a baking tray 2 months ago, I even mentioned it on another thread. This is my theory. Your ironing board just combusted and left no trace. You will never find it but you are safe, your home is safe. It will just forever be a mystery.

BrinkPink · 20/02/2019 21:26

Is the inside of the cupboard secure - could it have fallen through a gap in there?

forumdonkey · 20/02/2019 21:27

Dear St. Anthony please come around something is lost and it cannot be found.

Say this 3 times. I kid you not!!

Let's face it, you've nothing to lose unless the iron goes too.

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:28

My flat is pretty much as bare as the photos. Layout is identical (just different sofa, fridge etc)

Do you sleepwalk, OP? An old friend's sister, when they were kids, would get up at night and take all coats and throw them in the closet. She would do it with shoes and blankets as well. she would also open the front door and walk out. Her parents had to lock the door and hide the keys every night

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/02/2019 21:29

My caravan repair place has lost the back half of my caravan and 12 months on I'm still waiting for parts. It conincided with the repair manager leaving on very bad terms.

I did suggest maybe he'd taken it as revenge (as well as deleting all the customer records) and they were insistent he couldn't have because "he comes to work on the bus". Which still makes me giggle for some reason.

But I have no idea how they've lost half a caravan.

visitorthedog · 20/02/2019 21:30

Good point, is the iron still there?

ApolloandDaphne · 20/02/2019 21:31

Did you have a wild party and one of your mates took it when they left to see how long it would be before you missed it?

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:32

I am not currently in the flat. I might sound crazy but I am thoroughly creeped out. As far as I am concerned someone has removed it without my knowledge.

Who deals with any problems with the property while the landlord is living in China?

Passing4Human · 20/02/2019 21:33

.... I'm wondering if another tenant moaned about lack of ironing board, and your landlord has dispatched a minion to remove yours and take it to another property?

Drogosnextwife · 20/02/2019 21:33

Is this another "My friend wrapped a candle as a present for me but I opened it and it was chocolates" thread?

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:34

Iron is on resting on the bare bookshelf in corridor-where it has been for weeks.

Drogosnextwife · 20/02/2019 21:34

If not it's definitely a poltergeist, sorry OP

TheMadGardener · 20/02/2019 21:34

It's obvious. There are two explanations.

  1. You sleepwalk. Recently you walked in your sleep, took the ironing board out into the street and left it in the nearest skip. Ask if there is CCTV outside the entrance to your building and you will see footage of yourself carrying the ironing board out while wearing your PJs.
  1. Your concierge and your absent-in-China landlord are jointly running a sex club which operates in the tenants' flats while they are out. Recently, several of their clients were having an orgy in your flat and the ironing board was being used as a prop. The weight of the two people who were getting jiggy on the ironing board caused it to break beyond repair. Guiltily, the concierge removed the broken board meaning to replace it with an identical one before you missed it.

There you go, one of these two explanations is definitely the truth!

Dutch1e · 20/02/2019 21:35

The sleepwalking suggestion is intriguing.

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:35

Passing4Human flat is managed by letting agent

I would be concerned that it was someone doing a ‘test run’, that intend to come back later. Sorry OP. Get a camera and put it up somewhere obvious.
