AIBU to ask you to explain missing ironing board

Hi,

This may seem trivial to some but it has totally freaked me out to the extent I am spending the night with friends. Please help me see reason!

Yesterday, I had a meeting which required a more formal outfit that was nice and crisp. I have an ironing board which is rarely used but ha ALWAYS been placed in the coat cupboard in my corridor by the front door. However, when I went to retrieve it yesterday it was NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. I am disturbed as I can come up with no logical explanation as to why it was missing. The last time I used it was 3 ish weeks ago.

  • I live on my own in C. London
  • My visitors arrive on foot, tube etc
  • I would notice if they walked off with the ironing board- it is 100% not in the flat.
  • Why steal a rarely used ironing board
-I live in a secure building with the concierge (until 7 pm)

AIBU to ask you to please explain this. I'm really unnerved. Am I crazy? What would your natural reaction to this be?

always look for something else - otherwise....check under bed, settee, end of cupboard(standing upright in narrow gap) ditto wardrobe, bookcase, inside said wardrobe, in bathroom, on top of wardrobe etc- strange burglar next time ask him/her to do blinking ironing before he takes it. shut eyes for 5 minutes & think when you last ironed & was there a phone call or someone at door or did you iron something because someone was coming & quickly shoved it somewhere hidden

ivykaty44 · 20/02/2019 21:07

It’s probably with the single bed I lost in 1998

Crunchymum · 20/02/2019 21:07

Do you have a balcony?

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:07

ShannonRockallMalin I have a Juliet balcony. Nothing.

I know this sounds stupid, but I did this (lost an ironing board in a one bedroom flat). It was in a very slightly different place than usual think left-hand side of the cupboard rather than the right-hand side and I didn't spot it because I had hung a coat over the leg. So it looked like a coat hook or something. Just mentioning this in case it rings any bells with you!

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 20/02/2019 21:11

Do you have one of those bags like Mary Poppins had, she could put a lamp and other large things in it.

WallisFrizz · 20/02/2019 21:11

I may have missed it but describe the last occasion you were actually using it...the room you were in, the item you were ironing, time of day, location in flat, what you did when finished...

wowfudge · 20/02/2019 21:12

Fcuk - I was thinking the same. Otherwise it can only be under the sofa, a bed or another piece of furniture on legs.

Noteventhebestdrummer · 20/02/2019 21:13

Didn't you go sledging on it in the snow?

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:13

i have a long(ish) corridor between my front door (where the cupboard is located) and living room/kitchen. i would never mindlessly move it from this spot.

...blackhole appeared the same one that swallows odd socks … or there is internet dating site for disappearing lonely unwanted ironing boards (where is mine...thinks maybe I should check to see if its multiplied?)

ApolloandDaphne · 20/02/2019 21:14

I reckon last time you used it you popped it outside your flat on the landing for some reason and someone swiped it.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 20/02/2019 21:15

Your friends have dismantled it and have taken it out in bits and pieces so you wouldn't notice.

Can't tell you why though.

user1471453601 · 20/02/2019 21:15

Have I been at yours lately? I ask, as I'm the most absent minded person in the world, so I might have taken it by mistake. But if I had, I'm pretty sure (though not positive) if have also left my handbag at yours.
Seriously though, because you are clearly spooked, are you absent minded, like me? If you are, the ironing board could be anywhere.

Examples of very recent absent mindedness include, going upstairs with the intention of showering and getting in the shower and only then realising I had a magazine in my hand and "loosing" my toothbrush.

I've also walked out of restaurants without paying for my food and drink. I did realise and ran back in a panic.

It's much more likely that you've "put it somewhere" than someone has been into your flat and stolen it.

Purrrplexed · 20/02/2019 21:16

I used the board 3 weeks ago to iron a shirt (I usually wear crepe blouses). I have only ever ironed in the corridor by the front door My living space and bedroom are at the other end of the flat.

Try to remember back to the last time you used it. Do you remember putting it back in the cupboard?

easyandy101 · 20/02/2019 21:16

Yeah that's odd, yanbu

I'd probably convince myself I'd done something to it and just had a memory fail relating to that. Cos you know, otherwise...

DobbinsVeil · 20/02/2019 21:16

I was going to suggest what MotherOfDragonite has posted about - inside a cupboard under clothes.

HerRoyalNotness · 20/02/2019 21:17

It went on a surfing holiday downunder

Bluetrews25 · 20/02/2019 21:17

It will be with a big bar of chocolate that went missing from a MNetter's handbag earlier this week.

Poodloo · 20/02/2019 21:17

Are you searching now? Are you actually not staying at your flat because of this? It's got to be in there. Or if not, I think perhaps a cleaner has moved it maybe they had a master key and realised they were in the wrong flat or something.

SandAndSea · 20/02/2019 21:17

Could you have lent it to someone and forgotten?

On a separate and unrelated note, I'm very impressed with how clear your home is. I'd love to know how you keep it so clear.

Poodloo · 20/02/2019 21:18

blue omg I forgot about that.. was there an outcome?

FlippinNora1 · 20/02/2019 21:18

I once lost an ironing board. It was in between the gap between the fridge and a cupboard. I don’t ever remember putting it there, it usually lived in the hall cupboard. I couldn’t see it despite hunting high and low for it. I found it when I moved.

Have you any similar spaces to check? It will be there. No one would nick an ironing board!

Poodloo · 20/02/2019 21:18

sandandsea that isn't ops home! That's a picture of her neighbours home on rightmove. Op was using the photo to demonstrate the layout.
