The people of Swindon: do they regret voting for Brexit?

With the closure of Honda - closing their Swindon plant, with the loss of 3,500 jobs, which the firm has attributed to Brexit, I wonder if the people of Swindon are having regrets since they were from the leave camp.

Reminds me of those who voted for Trump knowing his policies were targeted at them but felt they somehow were exempt. Like the Mexican man and his US wife voting for Trump then crying on the news he had been deported/couldn't get back in when he was out of the country.

I'm finding it really difficult sympathising with those who voted to leave by not looking at their own circumstances, but rather, other people. Majority of the people I have heard from who voted leave (from fb, and so on) they only cared about immigration. They thought leaving meant a 'clear up' taking hardly into account their own future and that of their children.

I'm sorry to the people in Swindon, but they did it to themselves.

And before people say "there wasn't enough information" there was enough to determine that we did not know what the 'deal' was.

I can't link article for Honda but it's everywhere on news sites.

They're just totally deluded, you'd be frightened if you'd voted for it and had truly recognized what was happening, easier to deny.

I wouldn't fret too much
Those who have taken 25yr mortgages out, chill out in knowing that you probably won't be around to pay it all off, that is according to climatologists. The world has to change drastically...end off (literally)
90% of Hondas were sent out of the UK. How can the logistics involved in shipping in materials, then shipping out the end product be good for the environment.
If you want to continue to beat the Brexit drum...fine, carry on.
But FACT is the whole western world has got to change, otherwise there wont be a FUCKING world!!

But I'm damn sure people will find a way to blame BREXIT for that too!!

Even the biased BBC featured an automotive industry spokesman this morning who made it clear it was not Brexit related.

longwayoff · 20/02/2019 21:18

Brexit related? Of course not, whatever can you mean? Did the spokesman mention how Honda drastically reduced investment here from 2016 onwards? Preparing for the inevitable. Brexit result was sufficient insult to the Japanese, voicing 'send em all home' the icing on the cake. They will never publicly acknowledge this as our insult to them is too great. So you wont see a statement saying "England is populated by many xenophobic idiots who were happy to throw their jobs away. They told us to go, so we did." Sayonara.

I see the ever-charming Julia Hartley-Brewer has weighed in with her usual level of knowledge.

For all those claiming diesel sales were to blame, for the 2018-19 financial year, the proportion of cars made at the Swindon plant were 6% diesel, 94% petrol.....

DippyAvocado Looks like because diesel is the new Brexit meme.

Fitch putting the UK's AA rating on notice? It's because diesel, innit?
