The people of Swindon: do they regret voting for Brexit?

With the closure of Honda - closing their Swindon plant, with the loss of 3,500 jobs, which the firm has attributed to Brexit, I wonder if the people of Swindon are having regrets since they were from the leave camp.

Reminds me of those who voted for Trump knowing his policies were targeted at them but felt they somehow were exempt. Like the Mexican man and his US wife voting for Trump then crying on the news he had been deported/couldn't get back in when he was out of the country.

I'm finding it really difficult sympathising with those who voted to leave by not looking at their own circumstances, but rather, other people. Majority of the people I have heard from who voted leave (from fb, and so on) they only cared about immigration. They thought leaving meant a 'clear up' taking hardly into account their own future and that of their children.

I'm sorry to the people in Swindon, but they did it to themselves.

And before people say "there wasn't enough information" there was enough to determine that we did not know what the 'deal' was.

I can't link article for Honda but it's everywhere on news sites.

@namechangedforgoodreason

want some tea?

Nah, no tea for me thanks. Not from you lot. It will be too bitter and sour, probably a bit dense, and will leave a foul taste in my mouth. Grin

missi

Its an expensive oven

Basically

dreichuplands · 19/02/2019 22:24

It is an stove basically, fired by solid fuel or gas. They are found in the type of kitchens that Jilly Cooper writes about.

An aga is a cast iron cooker and heating system traditionally found in farmhouses. For many people they're a status symbol for a certain kind of Cotswolds living, period house owning, labrador loving, upper middle class lifestyle.

Hi folks

If this thread continues down this road, we'll end up pulling the whole thing!

Peace and love.

Skirmisher · 19/02/2019 22:26

I went for a more nouveau baby blue one, dreich. True Aga owners would be appalled! Grin

dreichuplands · 19/02/2019 22:26

They are excellent for things live proving bread and have several ovens which can operate at different temps. They also provide a stable low level heat.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 19/02/2019 22:27

Holy shit! Those are expensive!!!!!! Shock

And, thanks for having pity on me Rufusthebewilderedreindeer, btw. Wink

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 19/02/2019 22:27

@LilyMumsnet

Cool, no worries. I'm out. I can't top that last brilliant post of mine anyway. Grin

And I have said all I want to say.

Peace Lily.

See what I did there..? I'm hilarious. Grin

dreichuplands · 19/02/2019 22:28

That is shocking skirmisher, truly shocking!

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 19/02/2019 22:31

Is it just me, or does anyone else get the eerie feeling that Samantha Markle is on MN? Hmm

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 19/02/2019 22:33

If Rufus is allowed an alternative I want one too as my not-very-middle-class kitchen is also too small for an Aga otherwise I could have pretended to be a proper toff in a Jilly Cooper novel

redandyellow are you sure you're ok? Hmm

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 22:36

Do you not like agas then lilymumsnet

ContinuityError · 19/02/2019 22:37

@longwayoff

That's what I thought! I couldn't imagine from the little I'd seen that the paper he's reads aren't calling him a dopey fucker!!

He reads 'i', Independent, Guardian and the mirror.

My whole family are saying it's all made up. I'm so bloody confused! I've not spoken to my brother in almost two years over this, ugh, between living in the States with the orange cunt in power and Britain I'm pretty bloody depressed with that state of things!

birdsandroses · 19/02/2019 22:42

@justanotherlurker, ha ha, that’s me told!!

pinkgloves · 19/02/2019 22:45

I'm from the West Country and it seems (from my Facebook) that pretty much everyone there voted out and still thinks it's going great. I'm in a parallel bloody universe!

Although the few people I know that voted for trump here are still saying he's great even though he's fucked them over.

I'm starting to think a lot of people I know are actually quite stupid. Sad

TalkinPeece · 19/02/2019 22:46

@lilymumsnet
but Agas are UP market Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 22:48

pink

My dads friend in the USA has told him that trump just 'hasnt been given a chance' Sad

Apparently me laughing hysterically when my dad told me was the wrong response Grin

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 19/02/2019 22:55

pinkgloves Amen sister! Wine Smile

birdsandroses · 19/02/2019 23:01

@justanotherlurker, on a more serious note, you are right to call me out on that. I have had a break from following Brexit and tonight I am particularly knackered, so I should have done a bit more research on why these companies have left or have folded before blindly posting. I will give you that.

longwayoff · 19/02/2019 23:05

O pink I wish I could cheer you up but if you've read this thread then you see how intransigent Brexiters can be. They are right, everything's fine and going supremely well. Ho hum. What you say about Trump and his supporters pretty much applies to the shysters, chancers, charlatans and conmen who sold Brexit to this country. And I know what you mean about parallel universe! Strange times.
