The people of Swindon: do they regret voting for Brexit?

With the closure of Honda - closing their Swindon plant, with the loss of 3,500 jobs, which the firm has attributed to Brexit, I wonder if the people of Swindon are having regrets since they were from the leave camp.

Reminds me of those who voted for Trump knowing his policies were targeted at them but felt they somehow were exempt. Like the Mexican man and his US wife voting for Trump then crying on the news he had been deported/couldn't get back in when he was out of the country.

I'm finding it really difficult sympathising with those who voted to leave by not looking at their own circumstances, but rather, other people. Majority of the people I have heard from who voted leave (from fb, and so on) they only cared about immigration. They thought leaving meant a 'clear up' taking hardly into account their own future and that of their children.

I'm sorry to the people in Swindon, but they did it to themselves.

And before people say "there wasn't enough information" there was enough to determine that we did not know what the 'deal' was.

I can't link article for Honda but it's everywhere on news sites.

DW and I voted Remain, and we both work in occupations that will be entirely unaffected by Brexit. I'm particularly going to enjoy a former friends plight, when their job (managing an EU-required competency course) vanishes on the 30th of next month. Also her husband will be out of work shortly afterwards, as his firm's supplies are not on the customs waiver list.

Sunny you're not a northerner to me, I live in Glasgow

bellinisurge · 19/02/2019 21:43

@Namechangedforgoodreason , yep - apparently all Remainers are middle class with agas. I can't make you more classy Grinbut apparently you are due an aga if you voted Remain.

dreichuplands · 19/02/2019 21:45

I would also like my free aga and if someone could do something about my Glaswegian accent that would be great too.

Skirmisher · 19/02/2019 21:47

There's an Aga showroom on Great Western Road. Maybe they give them away there to remainers.

birdsandroses · 19/02/2019 21:47

Sorry not read through the thread.

I don’t know if anyone has shared this tweet I saw today:

Sony
Dyson
Panasonic
Lloyds
Unilever
Goldman Sachs
Barclays
Airbus
Flybmi
P&O
HSBC
JP Morgan
UBS
Ford
Hitachi
Toshiba
AXA
Honda
Moneygram
Philips
European Banking Authority
European Medicines Agency
Bank of America

But apparently, it’s got nothing to do with Brexit.

bellinisurge · 19/02/2019 21:48

Where do I apply for my aga? Do I get a bigger house to go with it?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 21:52

Seriously, I think your posts are among the weirdest I have ever read. And, I've been on Reddit.

Grin
Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 21:54

One day one of them will come up with a well-argued and cogent reason for staying in the EU, but I'm still waiting. Most of the time it's just insults and abuse though

You can type that after reading redandyellows posts

Witha straight face ?

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 19/02/2019 21:54

dreichuplands, just wanted to give you a big thank you as I've never run into the phrase utter Horlicks before! I just read a description on World Wide Words and I will be putting it to use in my heavily laden demotic conversations from now on. Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 21:55

but apparently you are due an aga if you voted Remain

Oh i dont want one...my kitchen isn't that big!

Can i swap it for something else?

pinkgloves · 19/02/2019 21:56

So my family all voted for Brexit.

I didn't but love abroad.

My family are all pretty left leaning.

Every time I say 'well it doesn't look from over here and what I'm hearing that Brexit is going well' I get my head bitten off.

I asked my Dad the other day about the businesses leaving and got told 'it's bullshit, all bullshit, it's all being made up'. He reads left newspapers, no Daily Mail.

I'm bemused as to the denial that's going on. What are the British press saying?

I'm coming back on the 28th March for a while and DH is worried things won't be so good, are his concerns valid?

It's hard seeing somewhere you love and are concerned for from such a distance and with (what I think) is such a bizarre commentary!

As your a remainer with a grasp of economics cross posting a tweet with FlyBmi in it without any sense of irony really shows your intelligence and grasp of economics.

It's becoming comical the amount of illinformed shit flinging to score some point.

I think you have just downgraded the IQ of this thread substantially by cross posting that in an appeal to authority i almost feel sad for you

longwayoff · 19/02/2019 22:03

But many are expert at whinging and moaning about other people who have, in their eyes, apparently insulted and abused them. Projection, I think that's called.

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 19/02/2019 22:03

Redandyellow, please calm yourself or you'll be at risk of an aneurysm to spoil your over excited gloating. You run the risk of remainers thinking that you simply haven't thought things through and are simply cackling the same old tripe.

I'm fine just as I am ta. Don't need to 'calm myself down' at all. And I certainly won't be told what to do by you - or anyone else on here.

Unfortunately for you, and your remoaner cronies on here, I am as entitled to post my perfectly valid opinions and views as much as anyone else. So accuse me of having brain damage, and being drunk, as much as you like. Says more about you lot really, and proves my point about you all. Smile

That you are all sore, bitter, vitriolic LOSERS. 😆😛😆😝🤪

Skirmisher · 19/02/2019 22:10

Yeah, you seem calm.

Namechangedforgoodreason · 19/02/2019 22:10

Want a cup of tea? Got some brewing on my new aga

longwayoff · 19/02/2019 22:11

Pinkgloves, by left newspapers you presumably mean "left on a train" or your father reads nothing at all. Only the most die hard, eyes shut, ears closed brexiter could possibly describe brexit as going well. Unless you're the daughter of Jacob Rees Mogg.?

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 19/02/2019 22:13

@SunnyInGrimsby

redandyellowandpinkandgreen..., thank you for your kind words or "cackling tripe" as one furious Remoaner rather unkindly put it. Quite typical of the stimulating and inclusive debate on MN when it comes to Brexit.

You're welcome. We'll let them off shall we? Can't be easy being a frothing remoaner/big loser. Grin

longwayoff · 19/02/2019 22:15

Please, someone, send for some valium. If redandyellow doesn't want it, chuck it over here. It's like having Katie Hopkins in my sitting room.

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 19/02/2019 22:18

That's it @longwayoff you keep up those personal insults.

Showing yourself up for what you really are to EVERYONE on here. Grin

Keep it up hun.

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 19/02/2019 22:20

@Skirmisher

U seem rather invested in me my luv. Worry about your OWN posts and yourSELF, and stop worrying my 'calmness'.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 19/02/2019 22:21

longwayoff HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! Grin

Okay you guys, seriously though. Will you please throw the dumb American a bone, and tell me what a Godamn aga is?

Skirmisher · 19/02/2019 22:22

What a loon.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 22:22

skirmisher

The second someone types ' remoaner' it tells you all you need to know Grin
