To feel panic stricken about Brexit?

northernlights0710 · 18/02/2019 12:33

I actually feel sick at the thought that it is only 39 days to Brexit, with no deal in place and a cliff-edge exit looming fast, the EU refusing to budge on concessions (as well they might), the Irish border problem unresolved, tens of thousands signing up to Nigel Farage's Brexit party and the Tories and Labour in crisis?

How did something that started out as a row within a faction of the Tory party come to this, a constitutional crisis? It feels like Armageddon.

YANBU it is the worst thing that could ever happen, ever, under any circumstances. The best thing to do is to feel sick and start a thread about how bad it all is.

Makes a change from climate change I suppose.

DippyAvocado · 18/02/2019 12:39

Yanbu. Do what little you can - plague your MP with emails telling them to avoid no deal, stockpile a few key items, come on the 23rd March protest (if nothing else the mood of solidarity may lift your spirits!)

northernlights0710 · 18/02/2019 12:47

I'll be on the protest march. My MP was one of 83 MPs to have signed a letter to Theresa May last month urging her to rule out a no-deal Brexit.

YANBU. I feel the same.

badlydrawnperson · 18/02/2019 12:49

Also DO NOT move this to the Brexit board, at all.

badlydrawnperson · 18/02/2019 12:51

Oh, and stockpile bog rolls as apparently there won't be an bog rolls after March.

FriarTuck · 18/02/2019 12:52

Did your MP vote for the deal on offer though? That's what MPs need to do, not try and rule out no deal but actually agree a deal that renders no deal irrelevant.

DippyAvocado · 18/02/2019 12:53

Thanks for reminding me to get some more bog rolls. The pulp used in then is imported from the EU so production could well be affected and I don't fancy using some leaves from my garden.

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 18/02/2019 12:55

I’m not panic stricken. I was but now I’ve gone full head in sand. Ignoring it all and pretending everything’s marvellous. It’s not of course it’s shit.

I’ve just decided I can’t look at it any more. I’ve stockpiled and will continue to do so. I’ve written to my MP begging him to do everything in his power to avoid no deal.

Nothing else I can do so I’m burying my head in the sand.

Makes me wish I’d kept the bidet when we did up the bathroom.

badlydrawnperson · 18/02/2019 12:57

Thanks for reminding me to get some more bog rolls

You're welcome.

stopitandtidyupp · 18/02/2019 12:58

My dd just said if there is no toilet roll will
they shut my school?

Shock
northernlights0710 · 18/02/2019 13:04

My Remainer MP voted against Theresa May's deal.

I haven't started stockpiling yet but I've just asked my GP surgery if I can request extra repeat medication. I'm going to start stockpiling though.

Therewillbeadequatefood, seems a reasonable approach given that there doesn't seem to be much we can do about it now, short of rioting on the streets.

wouldn't have happened under PR.

Sweepingcalamity · 18/02/2019 13:08

YANBU

ChocChocButtons · 18/02/2019 13:10

🙄

badlydrawnperson · 18/02/2019 13:11

I agree and support PR - but it also wouldn't have happened if so many people hadn't voted Tory.

Maykid · 18/02/2019 13:12

I am really anxious about no deal and scared.

badlydrawnperson · 18/02/2019 13:13

It feels like Armageddon.

It is much worse than that.

PBo83 · 18/02/2019 13:20

Maybe OP meant the movie with Bruce Willis...There's Nothing worse than that!

Helmetbymidnight · 18/02/2019 13:20

its a black cloud hanging over us for sure.

however, if you listen to brexiteers well-informed arguements and considered solutions, no doubt youll be convinced that its the best thing for the country.

in 50 years or so. and for the wealthy. but still.

SemperIdem · 18/02/2019 13:29

Yanbu

mum2jakie · 18/02/2019 13:29

Feeling powerless will make your anxiety over Brexit even worse.

I'd definitely recommend taking some steps to mitigate against the immediate economic effects. Doing the initial three day prep recommended here really helped to focus me - setting aside at least three days' worth of food, toiletries, cleaning items etc and keeping this apart from day to day supplies as a starting point. You can then add to this.

Have a look at your own personal finances. Is there any debt you can clear or move to a lower rate? Are mortgage overpayments a possibility? Good time to look at regular outgoings and trim any unnecessary spending in anticipation of prices going up elsewhere. Doing something (however small) will help to reduce the anxiety as there are some small steps we can all take to prepare.

MaverickSnoopy · 18/02/2019 13:30

DH is adamant that's it's never going to happen, that an extension will be granted and so on until it's cancelled. I hope so.

We've been semi prepping just in case though. I am worried about DDs prescription for formula though (allergy), as last time she had a bit too much (growth spurt) the doctor gave us a warning so no chance of getting a bit extra in. Thinking of buying normal formula that she's allergic to as a back up 😢 as this is better than no formula at all.

slipperywhensparticus · 18/02/2019 13:31

Family cloth anyone?
