AIBU to think that the IS bride would never have been allowed the freedoms she has, unless they have a grander plan?

I just find it all a bit suspicious.
She looks dopey or doped.
Her interview was very rehearsed.
They want to get her back here for nefarious reasons.
They would not have allowed her to speak to press.
She is a willing accomplice in a grander plan?

IF she makes her way back (and isn't put through the courts elsewhere) she should get the maximum time for as many charges as they can throw at her. Pretty sure traitors get a life sentence, for a start, even before being a member of a proscribed terror group and anything else she may have done.

Saying they're all evil is too simple, as it absolves all of us of any responsibility.

Just because something is simple doesn't make it untrue. 2+2=4 is simple.

They are all evil, and it's not the responsibility of the rest of us. 99.99% of young British Muslims did not run off to join IS, even though they may not all be lovers of the UK govt and its policies in the Middle East.

I've just been watching old family interviews on YouTube. It strikes me that two of the girls were still sharing beds with their mothers being described as scared of the dark and the baby of the family. How does someone like that go to Syria to marry a stranger and start having babies without any family support? Seems to me they saw more personal freedom going to Syria than they were getting at home. One of the comments was that Shamima would never have been able to meet someone like the Dutch guy she 'married' out there. I'm just making an observation as I've been thinking about this a lot and really struggling with the bold dangerous decision they made aged only 15.

Teens need privacy and increasing independence not sure they were getting that. Escaping under the guise of serving islam might have made sense to them.

Is human psychology ever simple - I doubt it!! Perhaps better to move on from discussion of this one individual and look at grooming/brainwashing of our children in general. We have a real problem with teenage mental health at the moment and these young sufferers are easy picking for those with dubious motives. Many children are without suitable role models due to difficult family circumstances and often turn to the internet for support. Our children are under intense academic and social pressure which seems impossible to escape. Bullying no longer stops at the school gate but invades even the homes of the victims where they no longer feel safe. We need robust and resilient children who are given more than one narrative so that they are able to question the views and opinions of others and not merely accept them.

Hubbleisback · 19/02/2019 14:01

Good point brassbrass.

brassbrass · 19/02/2019 14:06

You seem to be lumping a lot of grooming and mental health issues together. They need to be dealt with individually. Suicide, paedos, radicalisation, bullying, there isn't a one pill answer. What did these particular girls think they were doing/achieving? What's similar about them and their families that radicalisation was successful where it fails with the majority of other Muslim families? All thought provoking stuff.

Excellent posts by brassbrass and Hubbleisback

Hubbleisback · 19/02/2019 15:26

Not lumping together brassbrass - just mentioning some of the complex issues which need to be addressed. Of course there is no one solution. That is the complexity of the human condition I'm afraid.

Hubbleisback · 19/02/2019 15:45

Although brassbrass I think there are very often connections to be made.

brassbrass · 19/02/2019 15:48

Yes agreed. I feel overwhelmed by it really. What a fucking mess.

Whisky2014 · 19/02/2019 18:48

Her British citizenship has been revoked.

Good.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/02/2019 19:10

Her family are appealing the decision - not on legal aid, I hope.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 19/02/2019 19:14

I read that the two infants died

Has there been any evidence that she has even given birth previously (or indeed now), let alone had her children die?

Whisky2014 · 19/02/2019 19:21

I dont care if they appeal, of course they would as thats just the process. But the government obviously did this for a reason. Prob know she's a terrorist mule.
I don't believe a word she utters

mummmy2017 · 19/02/2019 19:23

Didn't she say she watched YouTube, and decided she wanted to go?

VietnameseCrispyFish · 19/02/2019 19:26

toastonlytoast

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2019/feb/19/isis-briton-shamima-begum-to-have-uk-citizenship-revoked

proof for you that Shamima is currently a British citizen, seeing as you consistently kept saying she wasn’t.

VietnameseCrispyFish · 19/02/2019 19:27

Whisky2014 no it hasn’t. Not yet.

Whisky2014 · 19/02/2019 19:35

Have you not seen the news recently?

Whisky2014 · 19/02/2019 19:36

"The letter said Home Secretary Sajid Javid had ordered the move and it had already been processed." Done.

toastonlytoast · 19/02/2019 19:39

@VietnameseCrispyFish she's not anymore! Iv not said anything since yesterday regarding this... why you bringing it up now???? Weirdo

MadCatEnthusiast · 19/02/2019 19:40

I think Sajid Javid has just broken international law but that's the Home Office for you

toastonlytoast · 19/02/2019 19:42

@VietnameseCrispyFish also I kept saying she gave that up when she went against her country.... I didn't say it was legal it was my opinion... like plenty others. She agrees with the Manchester bombing and lee rigby being murdered.... I for one are glad she has had it revoked!!!!!!! Now goodday to you!

Whisky2014 · 19/02/2019 19:42

Not if she can easily get Bangladeshi citizenship...which she can.

Whisky2014 · 19/02/2019 19:44

Humble pie For @VietnameseCrispyFish

Justanotherlurker · 19/02/2019 19:45

I think Sajid Javid has just broken international law but that's the Home Office for you

Article 8 of the UN Convention on the reduction of statelessness covers that one.

Plus if she is dual nationality then there is no law broken
