AIBU to think that the IS bride would never have been allowed the freedoms she has, unless they have a grander plan?

I just find it all a bit suspicious.
She looks dopey or doped.
Her interview was very rehearsed.
They want to get her back here for nefarious reasons.
They would not have allowed her to speak to press.
She is a willing accomplice in a grander plan?

I watched a snippet. Funny how she's change her tone after saying she didn't have any regrets. Public backlash and then "oh no I do regret it..." mhmm
Then talking about how she can come back and go to school again. "If they'll allow that" but maybe they'll put me in jail for a while or a deradicalisation course or something" she honestly doesn't give a fuck. Doesnt see it as a crime either.

brassbrass · 18/02/2019 19:08

Even better let them go off and commit unspeakable crimes and then let them return casually when their choices result in hardship (diddums). Let's not punish them because they're not regarded as adults by some despite the fact that they have made some Very adult choices that have resulted in death, rape, trauma, PTSD for many others who will never forget or recover from this for the rest of their lives. Those are the victims.

Looking at the video I too think she looks like she's been drugged. I suspect there's some kind of IS ploy behind all this.

I don't know what the solution is, as a British National we can't actually deny her access but obviously she will need very close handling to prevent access to networks over here.

The child though... the child deserves to not be punished for the actions of its parents.

Ultimately no idea what the solution is, though.

I don't know about that, Life, sometimes those with very little have to eat stuff which causes weight gain...

brassbrass · 18/02/2019 19:34

She may not have been able to breastfeed and not had regular access to formula which would have quickly resulted in malnourished babies and then sickly children. Does anyone know how old they were when they died?

Contraceptionismyfriend · 18/02/2019 19:34

I just saw another clip without seeing the baby.

RandomMess · 18/02/2019 19:36

She was 15 when she left the UK so presumably the grooming started younger than that 12/13/14... probably watched loads of horrific stuff on line before ever seeing it on real life.

I had to do PREVENT training, she was vulnerable to the grooming for some reason.

I doubt we'll ever know the full truth. She's probably got PTSD and yeah she looks like she's been drug using.

derxa · 18/02/2019 19:52

sagradafamiliar · 18/02/2019 19:53

Aw that's a shame life, she isn't emaciated enough for your liking. I read that the two infants died of illness and being bombed anyway, not malnourishment although I don't doubt they were malnourished. What a horrid situation and for the new little one to face now as well. Oh, the mother is a little tubby though. Ffs.

feellikeanalien · 18/02/2019 20:03

Sorry don't have a link but I read somewhere that over 400 British nationals who went to join ISIS have already returned to the UK. I don't know if this includes "jihadi brides" but would presume so.

Apparently only about 40 of them have been prosecuted. Many have 'disappeared' and gone off the authorities' radar.

There is no guarantee that she will even be prosecuted should she return.

I think we have a much greater potential future problem than we realise.

My impression from the interviews is that she seemed very emotionless. Whether this was due to trauma or whether she really doesn't give a shit I find hard to decide.

Lizzie48 · 18/02/2019 20:10

It's brainwashing rather than grooming, I think. And it's presented as being true Islam, waging Jihad against the Infidel. Moderates see the word Jihad as being metaphorical for our personal battle against sin. That's as I understand it, I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

In addition, the Jihadists can claim that they, and not the moderates, are being obedient to the Quran. (The Bible has been used in this way, too, historically.)

15 year olds tend to see the world in black and white terms. They're being offered the chance to be part of the glorious war to make all the world part of the Caliphate and subject to Shariah Law. If they become a martyr, they will be assured of a place in Paradise, or so they're told.

For a teenager without direction in their life, that would be pretty seductive.

I'm not saying that justifies what she did. But demonising her doesn't get us anywhere. She's hardly the only British Muslim to be sucked in by IS. Saying they're all evil is too simple, as it absolves all of us of any responsibility.

Big difference between a lack of food and a lack of nutrition.

AhhhHereItGoes · 18/02/2019 21:06

I think her attitude is just a young woman not willing to admit she made a mistake. I feel this woman feels she has no real identity. Neither interview gives a sense of personality.

Do I think she did wrong? Well obviously.

Do I think she should comeback? Yes, but face any charges that may come her way.

Would I want her to live next tome? Her child be in my child's school? Well if she kept herself to herself I don't think I'd care if she lived next door to me. If her child went to where my kids go to school I'd be as happy as them playing with anyone else. Because they are not the sin of their parents. They can make their own decisions.

I think it's dangerous to state how intolerant ISIL is/was and then show how much we 'other' people. Of course she condoned vile acts but that alone does not make you a criminal.

We as a nation are very arrogant and self interested. What is a better way for this woman's child to learn the UK is not evil, than to allow that child to live a safe life here where they will be looked after.

I do think she needs to cooperate fully with the police and social service. She should expect scrutiny and close observation which is more than fair.

Saylav · 18/02/2019 21:50

She had that.

Saylav · 18/02/2019 21:51

She has apparently named the son Jarrah which means able fighter in Arabic.

Handwringers or people who think before they speak. You seem to have had many of your comments removed Lifecraft.

dustarr73 · 18/02/2019 23:12

What nationality is the baby?

Bumper1969 · 18/02/2019 23:20

I recommend you all read ,"Last Girl", by Nadia Murad, one of the survivors of the Yezidi genocide and winner of a Noble Prize. Represented by human rights lawyer Alam Clooney.

notahiker · 18/02/2019 23:21

British , Dutch , Syrian ....take your pick

Just British as of right now. Dad is Dutch but the parents weren't legally married at all. NL dont accept nikahs/Islamic marriages as proof. So he'd be forced to 'acknowledge' the baby which is a lengthy legal process only done in NL.

Syria don't offer birthright citizenship to children of foreign nationals.
