AIBU to wonder why people without kids are on mumsnet?

Just that really, noticed recently lots of posts from people where poster says they don’t have kids/don’t want kids/ no plans to have kids etc and just wondering why, then, they are on the forum in the first place. Not saying they shouldn’t be , hey whatever floats your boat and wouldn’t tell anyone what they can/can’t do , just I don’t really understand why you’d want to be ...

Not this again.

Thatsnotmyotter · 17/02/2019 18:39

Because it’s a massive forum with lots of topics? You can google something like ‘how to get shoe polish out of the carpet’ or something and there will be a mumsnet link.

Jesus wept. How many times!

Hmm

YABU to start this thread for the 17,582nd time!

Isleepinahedgefund · 17/02/2019 18:41

YAWN don’t we have this thread every other week? Bored!

GirlsBlouse17 · 17/02/2019 18:41

This post comes up frequently. I guess Mumsnet started out as a forum for mums but has developed into a bigger general discussion forum for all since then

MuddyMoose · 17/02/2019 18:41

This has been absolutely done to death 🤦

Have a look at the sheer amount of topics. Cooking, knitting, craft, beauty, sex, relationships. The list is endless. You don't have to be a parent to do all of the above.

Ainba · 17/02/2019 18:41

Yabu to not search for the hundreds of other threads on this to look through the posts.
But a large portion of MN is not about children, gardening, green living, food, aibu, feminism topics etc

Maybe it's because there are subjects raised on the forum that don't involve kids but it's a woman just wanting to share and maybe get advice from another woman. I have seen men posting on here as well. I don't think it matters either way. Maybe they should call it Womensnet.

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 17/02/2019 18:42

Very good thread on this recently. Personally, I find it difficult to meet women my age as they are busy.

So nice to see the range of views & discussions here, other forums tend to be focussed on the reason for the forum, not wide ranging general chat.

Very helpful for me to see how other people think & I have a better appreciation of kid issues now too.

Bamchic · 17/02/2019 18:42

My baby died in my third trimester of pregnancy because I was sick. Not that it’s any of your bloody business 🙄🙄🙄

CameliaCamelia · 17/02/2019 18:43

I'm a mum of 5 and avoid most child related topics to be honest

WeCameToDance · 17/02/2019 18:43

This seems to get asked on a weekly basis! Look at the list of subject categories that people can talk about. Food, home decor, legal matters, style and beauty. Last time I checked you didnt need children to chat about lipstick shades.

ShirleyPhallus · 17/02/2019 18:43

Oh fuck off

FudgeBrownie2019 · 17/02/2019 18:43

Yes, YABU.

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 17/02/2019 18:44

I assume people who post this don't want childless/free women in their company too?

SneakyGremlins · 17/02/2019 18:44

Flowers Bamchic

I'm not a mum. Or a woman. But I enjoy the threads in chat, AIBU, credit crunch, gardening, and the litter tray. Don't need to be a mum to ask for and give advice on any of those topics.

Sparklesocks · 17/02/2019 18:44

This comes up constantly, maybe have a search of the old threads.
But ok here we go - overall there are a range of topics not directly related to parenting - like a lot of AIBU for example.

MmaMakutsi · 17/02/2019 18:44

It's almost like someone with no posting history starting a goady thread in AIBU because they're...err...goady.

But I'm sure that's not why you did it OP.

londonrach · 17/02/2019 18:45

Not again. I joined years before dd as i was an active aunt and tbh loved it. I dont always agree with mntters but like seeing other views. Makes me question my views, some firm them, sometimes change them. Its not just for mums. I am a mum now but use it less than pre dd.

YABU.

TyrionsNextWife · 17/02/2019 18:46

This is one of the biggest and most diverse forums based in the uk, of course people without kids are going to use it. If it was only for parents, why do you think it has more sub forums on non child related subjects that child related ones?

Are you one of those ones who thinks that childless people just sit in a darkened room all day, because unless you have kids you have no idea what’s life’s all about Hmm
