AIBU to wonder why people without kids are on mumsnet?

Just that really, noticed recently lots of posts from people where poster says they don’t have kids/don’t want kids/ no plans to have kids etc and just wondering why, then, they are on the forum in the first place. Not saying they shouldn’t be , hey whatever floats your boat and wouldn’t tell anyone what they can/can’t do , just I don’t really understand why you’d want to be ...

OP posts:

I know three people that calls themselves 'mama bear' often. All three are self obsessed, virtue signalling thunder cunts.

Lizzie48 · 18/02/2019 16:51

When I first took an interest in Mumsnet, it was through seeing Facebook comments on various threads. All the threads were AIBU. Therefore I genuinely didn't know that there were all these other topics on here.

For that reason, I can believe that the OP genuinely didn't realise that Mumsnet comprised such a variety of topics.

AutumnCrow · 18/02/2019 16:56

pinkgloves 😀

notacooldad · 18/02/2019 16:58

I was hoping this was going to be a zombie thread, but no!
mind you this topic hasn't got time to die a death, it comes up so often!

notacooldad · 18/02/2019 17:04

So you posted straight away without finding out what the site was about?
You didn't have a look round, you just went straight in and started athread.
You didn't wonder what AIBU or chat was about and have a look to find out?
So no curiosity what so ever, straight in to start a thread?
Interesting!

@pinkgloves

“The next person to say 'mummy' gets a kick in the minge. angry”
So Mumsnet welcomes everyone except someone whose a mummy who deserves to be ridiculed and assaulted.
It’s common for most children under 10 to use this word to describe the woman who either gave birth to them or is primary carer when did it become subjected to such venom.
I’ve heard cat or dog owners call themselves that and it’s physically and legally impossible do they also deserve to be patronised and bellitted on what is still called a parenting form.
Misogyny at its finest.

AutumnCrow · 18/02/2019 17:14

No it isn't 'misogyny at its finest' - you'll need Twitter, politics and Reddit for that.

It's satirical comedy.

pinkgloves · 18/02/2019 18:01

Anyone who calls themselves a 'cat mummy' deserves a kick in the minge AND the arse. HTH. Grin

AGHHHH · 18/02/2019 18:18

@pinkgloves ugh, cat mummy? I agree.

Throws up violently

ShirleyPhallus · 18/02/2019 18:24

Anyone who calls themselves a 'cat mummy' deserves a kick in the minge AND the arse. HTH

And anyone who calls themselves “mummy to a fur baby” deserves to be loaded in to a trebuchet and flung far far away

pinkgloves · 18/02/2019 18:43

My sister in law regularly posts on Facebook about how she despises children and babies and thinks everyone should just be 'mummy's of fur baby's' (she does those apostrophes not me).

If there were a net huns for fuzzies she'd be all over that shit. Envy

Ghanagirl · 18/02/2019 18:49

@AzraiL

It would be a pretty boring forum if it only accepted bearers of crotch-fruit and only discussed crotch-fruit related things.
Maybe be so but posting on a site called Mumsnet terms like “crotch fruit” and generally slating mums I don’t get the point it’s like when trans activists call women “breeders” “menstruaters” “CIS” or describe breastfeeding as chestfeeding.
Why so much hate towards mothers on a site called “Mumsnet”.
It’s seems odd, of course anyone is allowed to post whatever they want on any forum but I wouldn’t go onto a site for people experience fertility issues or who choose not to have and start calling them horrible names and imply that their choice of circumstance renders them stupid or deserving of contempt.

Lizzie48 · 18/02/2019 18:51

I must say I have an irrational hatred towards the term 'fur baby'. I do love my cats, but they are cats not people. They give birth to kittens not human babies. I'm not their mummy, I'm mummy to my 2 DDs. I don't think cats even want that kind of intense relationship anyway (although dogs do, I can see that).

Let's keep some perspective here.

pinkgloves · 18/02/2019 18:56

Where is there hate towards Mothers? Confused

ICantThinkOfANameSorry · 18/02/2019 18:58

Trust me, there is a lot more contempt for childless people on MN than there is for mother's.

Ghanagirl · 18/02/2019 19:05

@AutumnCrow
Why because you say so.
Read some of the vitriol about the simple word “mummy” which is in fact one of many (not all) woman’s roles we can be that alongside other roles I’m professional a graduate, wife sister etc neither is less than the others just different.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄. I can’t be bothered. I really can’t.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 18/02/2019 21:45

Trust me, there is a lot more contempt for childless people on MN than there is for mother's

Very true - as can be seen from threads like this and any others about being childless. It is a sad reflection of our wider society where we are nothing but pariahs.

Vulpine · 18/02/2019 22:06

Jeez does anyone really have to be kicking any one in the minge?

pinkgloves · 18/02/2019 22:31

HappyHattie · 18/02/2019 22:35

🤔 There’s several pets forums/ weddings/hobbies which frankly have very little (if anything) to do with children.

I quite often read completely idiotic posts from parents which make me lose faith in humanity! If the only ‘entrance requirement’ is having kids I’m afraid you’re setting the bar really low 😂

BartonHollow · 18/02/2019 23:13

I have no children and don't live in London

The competitive London school threads are a fascinating window to another world

artisticpiles · 19/02/2019 00:00

I was already a mum when mumsnet started.
