ITV Drama, Sheridan Smith shit-show

Spoiler alert!! Did anyone actually like it?! I have just endured the final (I hope) instalment of Cleaning Up. It was laughable but I just had to watch it to see how the feckless 'heroine' would fare.

Well, am I wrong about how they made their money at the end? They bought high, 6k into £16.00 shares, then they sold when the business went bust and the share-price plummeted to £1-something, and they made 16k. I'm no financial genius but even I know that is the wrong bleedin way round!

How can a show be made with such ridiculous and stupid errors? Do they think we're too dumb to notice?

It was terrible. There’s a thread over in the telly section all about it.

anitagreen · 15/02/2019 00:58

They didn't sell the shares they bet against his company dropping I think I'm not sure but either way was a dumb ass show

gokartdillydilly · 15/02/2019 01:01

anitagreen ohhh I am an idiot! Thank you for putting me right. It was seriously shit though wasn't it? #nevergetthattimeback

Why Sheridan Smith shit show? Why not, name of drama, shit show? What is it with the Sheridan Smith bullying from women? She didn’t write the script!

gokartdillydilly · 15/02/2019 01:24

Sigh Hmm Heddagarbled no bullying of anyone here thank you. It was a shit show starring a usually excellent (in my opinion) SS. She played a really unlikeable character who was the main character, so it was 'her' show. What initially seemed like a good premise turned out to be shockingly bad writing, a terrible predictable plot and a completely unbelievable character.

OP posts:
MissTerryShopper · 15/02/2019 01:47

Oh gawd, it was utterly crap wasn't it? I hated her character, she gave me the rage.

Monty27 · 15/02/2019 03:17

'nancy's' facial expressions were ridiculous as was the story.
I like Sheridan Smith though.
But it was a bit shit yes. Grin

TidyDancer · 15/02/2019 05:49

It seemed like her gambling addiction was cured overnight as well, which is completely the wrong message to send out!

It was lazy writing I think, a totally unbelievable last episode and a series that could've been condensed into three or four episodes max. It wasn't Sheridan Smith's finest moment.

StellaMorris · 15/02/2019 06:07

I couldn’t help thinking that it could have been a good premise for a story, and would have been so much better if it had been written by Kay Mellor.

It all suddenly ended a bit too convinieny with the crooked investors being

StellaMorris · 15/02/2019 06:09

.... posted too soon....

....being put away. What about her gambling? Did she ever get the girls back? Did Glynn and Jess ever get it together? Did Jess ever get her van?

Gatekeeper · 15/02/2019 06:12

Was done far better in the film "Ladies who do". Amusing and jolly 😊

ThankYouDebbie · 15/02/2019 06:17

I'm off sick from work with some manky virus high temperature can't move thing. I watched nearly the whole thing in one day on ITV player. Feel my pain. I wish I'd looked on here for a review first Sad

Springwalk · 15/02/2019 06:22

I really liked it, as did dh!

StellaMorris · 15/02/2019 06:29

Thanks @Gatekeeper, I have just added that to my Amazon watchlist.

Hammondisback · 15/02/2019 06:40

I hated the very end, in particular, where the three of them earned 16K and then she suddenly announced to her mates, ‘Oh 14K is spoken for, we’ve got 2 left,’ and they just took it like lambs - very lazy and rushed script. The acting was good though.

SamBaileys · 15/02/2019 06:45

I quite enjoyed the show as a whole but I thought the ending was shite. They won't get a long sentence will they, they're going to be mighty cross with Sam when they get out!

SavoyCabbage · 15/02/2019 06:49

So many loose ends! It was awful.

As if top London law firms are just going to start talking to a woman in a mobile in Piccadilly Circus about changing to her cleaning firm of three.

Roussette · 15/02/2019 07:28

I found it watchable, but ridiulous. I like Sheridan.

What gets me about 6 parters like this.... they have 5 and three quarters of it with everything going wrong, losing money, people chasing after people, lost phones, crooks, threats, there's no way out of this type thing. Then the last15 minutes is spent boom boom boom, everything is sorted, we have a business, everything is sorted, everyone is happy. Life is not like this!

I wish it was better written with half of it having her getting out of the holes she has got herself into. Slowly. That would make it more realistic.

AnyFucker · 15/02/2019 07:32

Bag'o'shite

BoswellsBollocks · 15/02/2019 07:37

I thought the whole thing was an insult to the actors they had in it who are all well known and usually very good.

Dire script and gaping holes in the storyline.

Lardlizard · 15/02/2019 07:38

Started off quite good then yay got worse and worse till the ridiculous ending

Hollanda · 15/02/2019 07:40

I took it for light hearted viewing. I like SS and agree Kay Mellor could have done a better job with writing. The end did suggest a new series to me although I could be wrong.

I don't think her gambling was cured but it did hin the she knew she had issues, first step to recovery.

I'm usually that tired in the evening that I don't pick up on even glaring errors. It's a bonus for me to be awake at 9pm let alone watching TV.

skippy67 · 15/02/2019 08:06

I liked it!

Lemoneeza · 15/02/2019 08:06

I did think the last episode was a slight improvement. hopefully there won't be a second series though.

Lovemusic33 · 15/02/2019 08:10

I watched it, it wasn’t great but I felt I had to watch it to see the ending. There’s not many good drama on tv at the moment so it filled some time.
