Spoiler alert!! Did anyone actually like it?! I have just endured the final (I hope) instalment of Cleaning Up. It was laughable but I just had to watch it to see how the feckless 'heroine' would fare.

Well, am I wrong about how they made their money at the end? They bought high, 6k into £16.00 shares, then they sold when the business went bust and the share-price plummeted to £1-something, and they made 16k. I'm no financial genius but even I know that is the wrong bleedin way round!

How can a show be made with such ridiculous and stupid errors? Do they think we're too dumb to notice?

Clearly we weren't watching the same show Grace. She gambled in a RL casino. And if 'spinning' cards online isn't gambling what is? She did this many, many times. How can you say she didn't gamble??????

Lemoneeza · 15/02/2019 14:43

@Meralia agree good girls was brilliant!

Grace212 · 15/02/2019 14:43

TwitterQueen1 - sorry, I need an edit button!

someone said she stopped gambling - I thought that meant the one scene where she had the option to gamble but didn't

so I mean, that one instance of her thinking "I don't fancy gambling today" wasn't a sign that she had stopped, just that she wasn't going to gamble that day.

MrsChollySawcutt · 15/02/2019 14:44

The episode started with her exiting the casino having bet every £ she had on a single roulette number. That included the £1500 deposit money she 'borrowed' off her extremely accommodating lodger.

At the end they made money by betting that Swanny's company shares would go down in value.

Plenty of gambling going on right up the end. Did you nod off?

Grace212 · 15/02/2019 14:45

oh no this will be like cancel the cheque

for the cross posts, I meant "the one time she didn't gamble" Grin

If I didn't know she was a gambler, I really would have been watching a different show!!

TwitterQueen1 · 15/02/2019 14:50

Ah..... we will magnanimously forgive you Grace Wink

picklemepopcorn · 15/02/2019 14:51

Great cast, rubbish show. I was so disappointed because I like Sheridan Smith.

NameChanger08 · 15/02/2019 14:54

I enjoyed it as I like SS. I agree it had lots of plot holes but was easy viewing. I wouldn't be bothered if they didn't make a second series.

Roussette · 15/02/2019 16:29

Please don't make a second series! This one was just about copeable with but a second one will be pushing it.

Just for you Grace she did gamble Grin only joking

Teddyduchamp · 15/02/2019 16:30

I just feel like it showed that having a gambling addiction is fine if you gamble big enough. I wanted it all to fall apart. She was a liar and completely unlikeable

anitagreen · 15/02/2019 16:31

@gokartdillydilly oh my god yes it really was shit but I'm even more annoyed at myself that I knew it was shit, yet I continued to watch every episode just to see what happened next Confused

anitagreen · 15/02/2019 16:34

Did anyone else fancy the arse of Swanny or just me Hmm

Thesearmsofmine · 15/02/2019 16:34

I’m glad I’ve seen this thread. We watched the first three episodes but haven’t bothered with the others because it was so bad. I watched because SS was in it as I suspect many others did. I usually like her shows but yeah this was terrible.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/02/2019 16:44

Watched all the episodes to see if it got better. It was the worst thing I’ve seen in ages. The lady in dulwich who she stole the coat from never noticed. The lodger lost his money, what happened to him?

Total shite tv. I’m sorry I wasted my time on it. Only good thing was the theme tune.

gokartdillydilly · 15/02/2019 16:58

@anitagreen ooh no! Way tooo smewth and self-assured. I think I preferred the tiny shouty bloke with the strangely squeaky voice.

Auramigraine · 15/02/2019 17:03

I was looking forward to this starting and felt hooked after the first episode...... then I felt it got worse and I could feel myself feeling stressed over her gambling.... the last episode was terrible Sad felt it was such a let down. So pretty disappointed in the end.

anitagreen · 15/02/2019 18:10

@gokartdillydilly no way that is hilarious Grin his voice made me just lose it I couldn't take him serious at all haha

gokartdillydilly · 15/02/2019 22:51

@anitagreen he always has that effect on me but he is actually a brilliant actor. Con O'Neill unless I'm mistaken. He starred in Telstar, the Joe Meek Story - a great film, and I saw him in the West End in Blood Brothers about 30 years ago

OP posts:
GunpowderGelatine · 15/02/2019 23:06

@anitagreen me me me!! Right up my street he was Grin

I thought the show was pretty naff but worth it purely for the line about the mussels not opening "I'm sure they'll open if you use a knife and fork" 😂. I was howling and my (shall we say, less food cultured) DH was Hmm and couldn't understand what was funny

anitagreen · 16/02/2019 00:21

@GunpowderGelatine I'm so glad I'm not alone. Grin

StellaMorris · 16/02/2019 06:08

Con O’Neill was possibly the best thing about the final episode. Great actor, I loved him as the transvestite club owner in Uncle.

Mummadeeze · 16/02/2019 07:33

I thought her acting was excellent. She was exactly like a real life person I met and nothing like she has been in other things. Fair enough the story was far fetched but I couldn’t criticise her at all.

Bouldghirl · 16/02/2019 07:45

Got round to watching the last episode last night. I agree that the ending suggests the possibility of a Series 2 but if the reaction from others is anything like here I suspect that ITV will pass on this. I doubt that this series will trouble the judges come Awards time.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/02/2019 08:24

I couldn't be bothered to waich the latest episode.
Just too unbelievable. A shame, since it could have been so much better.
Wasn't there a RL cleaner or tea lady or something, who was 'invisible' to staff and thus able to pick up tips that made her a lot of money?
