To think everyone saying Shamima Begum should rot in Syria have completely overlooked the fact that she is pregnant

Just that really. She did a terrible thing going to Syria to marry an ISIS fighter. But she was only 15 and probably incredibly naive. She has already lost two children, one as a complication of malnutrition. And the child she is pregnant with has done nothing wrong. Surely we shouldn't leave him or her there to die too?

Do people lock passports and jewellery away from their teenage children? Blimey!-

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/02/2019 18:32

Nope. I keep it all in Safe Places but not under lock and key.

ReflectentMonatomism · 15/02/2019 18:39

No, I lock them away from uninvited guests. My children have left home but the crucial stuff is in a small fire safe.

cupofteaandcake · 15/02/2019 18:39

According to the Telegraph today, the counterterrorism police had spoken to them 2 months earlier after their friend had left the country. Frankly at this point the parents should have locked up their passports and watched them closely. They didn't, they need to be held accountable.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/02/2019 20:12

Where did the money for the plane tickets come from? Was that ever explained?

I believe it was reported that Shamima received gifts of money after her mother died and that she used this to pay for her ticket? (I'm trying to find the article again but it's not easy among the tsunami of comment)

On a separate note, I'm wondering why the appalling Abase Hussen's getting so much airtime about this - I realise his daughter's over there too, but it's the pleas for Shamima's return I'm thinking of. It's to be hoped her family haven't authorised this, because frankly they'd have to be mad to use a proven liar and attender of hate rallies as a spokesman

Juells · 15/02/2019 20:16

Was he the one who sat crying in a chair clutching a large teddy bear when they left? Fake as all get out.

Justanotherlurker · 15/02/2019 20:38

Yes, then photos and history became public and it just added more fuel to the far right, shit show all round as usual

ReflectentMonatomism · 15/02/2019 20:41

If a man whose daughter has joined IS, who claims to know nothing of extremism, turns out to be a member of Andy Choudary’s Flying Circus, along with his wife, then you do not need to be Nick Griffin to regard that as note. Extremist family who lie, makes it less surprising their daughter is also an extremist.

woodhill · 15/02/2019 20:43

Can't he go and join her out there and not return

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/02/2019 20:43

That's the one Juells

He's now saying it was all "a mistake" and that the women are "no threat to the UK" ... as if we can take his word for anything at all Hmm

Snowmaggedon · 15/02/2019 20:45

Indeed reflectant.

If I was extremist.. mixing with preachers of hate who directly inspired acts of Terror... and my DC friends were running to Isis...yes!! I'd lock passports away.

eaudynamisantee · 15/02/2019 20:46

Couldn't care less. Feel more sorry for Syrian woman who are pregnant and in refugee camps because Isis destroyed their home.

Why should an Isis fighters baby be born here on the nhs?

Ribbonsonabox · 15/02/2019 20:49

I dont think they've overlooked it any more than they've overlooked that she was a child bride or that she is a British national... they just dont want to know do they! I really do think its rooted in racism because those things would be focused on far more of she were white... I mean there would still be bunch of angry armchair twats would want her hanged... but there would be much less of them. It's easy to dehumanise her and even her baby because shes not white.

It's ridiculous there shouldn't even be a discussion. Shes British of course she has to come back here.

mothertruck3r · 15/02/2019 20:50

It's offensive to compare real grooming victims like the poor young girls in Rotherham to her. She sounds manipulative and evil.

Ribbonsonabox · 15/02/2019 20:56

@mothertruck3r dont be ridiculous... how do you think victims of grooming should sound? If they dont say the right things are they not deserving of help? Evil.... ffs. Calling a sexually abused child evil. That's disgusting.
I used to work with young victims of sexual abuse and let me tell you they weren't all poor little Pollyannas .... unsurprisingly they had had very difficult lives which had made them quite difficult people with attitudes and outlooks that could be shocking... I had girls telling me their abusers were their friends and refusing to accept that anything was wrong with the setup... it's very common... they do it to protect themselves psychologically... and in some cases it's the only version of love and belonging they've ever known

Justanotherlurker · 15/02/2019 20:56

ReflectentMonatomism

I am not disagreeing, I was making a factual point that the far right jumped on it and the term 'Taqiya' became more prominent

ReflectentMonatomism · 15/02/2019 21:02

he term 'Taqiya' became more prominent

People thought that a liar lying with the support of his family, who knew the story to be untrue, and his solicitor, who should have asked deeper questions, reflects a cultural willingness to lie? Unfortunate, but hardly surprising. Has he ever explained why he lied, or did he continue lying?

luckylavender · 15/02/2019 21:14

No sympathy at all. We may not be able to stop her coming back as she's a citizen but she'll always be a danger. She could go to prison & be radicalised more or radicalise others. She could still work for ISIS here.

BertrandRussell · 15/02/2019 21:26

“It's offensive to compare real grooming victims like the poor young girls in Rotherham to her.“

It’s very clear that you have never had anything to do with anyone who’s been groomed.

mothertruck3r · 15/02/2019 21:29

It's very clear that you are talking out of your arse.

Zofloramummy · 15/02/2019 21:38

I remember seeing a video of a ISIS family who had programmed their young daughters aged about 9 and 6 to their theology. These children were to be sent out with suicide bombs that their father would then remotely detonate. The children were filmed and they were like robots.

I also remember watching the news when the borders were being closed in an Eastern European country (can’t remember which one) and Syrian refugees were running to get across in time. Behind the reporter there was a young girl with a backpack and teddy stood amongst the chaos. She had lost her family and was crying her heart out. My dd was a similar age and I was so upset watching it.

As a country we have turned our backs on the refugees of this awful war. We have watched children’s bodies wash up o. The shores of Europe, we have said no we will only take a few. We watched a Christian community flee theirs homes and be stuck on a mountain being air dropped food whilst isis fighters tried to get up there to kill them.
Yet we did very little. And eventually the news stopped reporting.

Women and children have been raped and murdered, starved and sold by that regime.

No she chose to go out there, she should stay there. She chose to be there. Many families did not choose to be in war zone and had no help when they needed it. Why should she be any different?

Zofloramummy · 15/02/2019 21:50

That doesn’t mean I lack empathy for her baby. But in the wider picture she has lacked any human emotion for the people she has viewed as lesser than her. So basically when you look at the bigger picture, why should Britain help her out simply because an accident of birth makes her British when we (the powers that be) have been happy enough to let thousands of innocent people be displaced, live in abject poverty and die?

Justanotherlurker · 15/02/2019 22:00

As a country we have turned our backs on the refugees of this awful war

You are forgetting the backlash against contemplating us entering this war, and the backlash of introducing the Prevent initiative.

Geopolitics is shades of grey and every side of the coin flip has contributed to the problem

Zofloramummy · 15/02/2019 22:12

I didn’t say we should join the war but when Europe discussed how many refugees they could house the number agreed by Britain was woefully low.

I actually think that western involvement in wars in the Middle East has been shown over thousands of years to be counter productive and we should stay away. The troubles seen now can be linked back to the first gulf war. We as a western society are an antithesis to an orthodox Muslim society.

Zofloramummy · 15/02/2019 22:14

That also doesn’t stop us being able to offer aid, air drops, hospital shops, tents, etc
