To call out this "vegan"?

I'm not actually going to! I know it would be so petty. But it's SO tempting.
She posts loads on social media - videos of cruelty on dairy farms and very self-righteous statements about how everyone needs to stop killing babies, why don't you care you are killing the planet?! What are YOU doing to stop cruelty? When are you going to wake up? Etc.
She was stood alone in the kitchen at a BBQ last summer at a mutual friends house and I walked in and she looked like a rabbit in the headlights. I didn't realise why as I don't care what people eat so I didn't notice but then she said "oh you've caught me being naughty and having some haloumi!"
Fast forward months of more self richeous and aggressive posts.
Then the other day she posted on Instagram a picture of her eating a chocolate mousse. I commented "looks lovely -what is it?" She says "it was! Galaxy chocolate mousse".
And I soooo wanted to say "oh wow I didn't realise galaxy chocolate mousse was vegan!"

If you can't work google, here is a link.

But please don't click on it unless you really want to know. (I am not someone who posts stuff like this normally because I find it upsetting).

Would you rather see footage from the abattoir?

That would just make me hungry. I'm already craving veal.

Reallyevilmuffin · 16/02/2019 01:11

I've been veggie all my life. There is a special place in hell for those sanctimonious gits that need everyone to know not only what they are but why. Some people I've known multiple years don't realise with me.

Those who do love telling everyone often stop being their super ultimate vegan as it is more about trying to feel superior than any real morals a lot of the time and move on when people get bored of them.

QwertyLou · 16/02/2019 02:52

Mike I should have been clearer: the dairy industry. A cow will only produce milk if she has a baby (much like female humans).

But once they are born, about 100% of male and 25% of female calves will be killed. The cow’s milk is then taken for humans (sorry if this is stating the obvious - but some people seem to think cows produce milk without calving??).

These are newborns, just like newborn babies: delicate and gangly, they take a while to fatten up. So not veal obviously Confused

Despite my own feelings on meat and dairy, I would support the rearing of bobby calves for veal. Because then calves are properly fed, watered and treated humanely until they are killed at around 5 months.

I'm beyond fed up with the preachy holier than thou virtue signalling sjw.
Most of the time I ignore them, but every once in awhile I poke them with a non-organic stick.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 16/02/2019 06:30

Ignore them attention is what they want

I know a few vegans that constantly preach and appear to be so pious but see no issues with their drug habits - that their buying drugs is part of a problem with gangs here and many people suffering in other countries

MikeUniformMike · 16/02/2019 13:51

Some of the practices in dairy farming, IMO, are a bit unpleasant (I heard of a cow producing 40 litres of milk daily), and I appreciate that some calves are killed when only a few days old, but not all are.
Some farmers cross-breed cows so that the calves are suitable for rearing.
I would not like to see dairy farming, sheep farming etc end but would prefer things like factory farming to end.

Thehop · 16/02/2019 13:54

Do it x

QwertyLou · 17/02/2019 00:16

Mike yes, it is possible to improve living conditions for farm animals, the move from battery to free range hens is an example.

In the dairy industry where I am, only about 25% of female calves are killed at birth (the rest replenish the herd).

But close to 100% of male calves are killed and (according to Google) this seems to apply in the UK as well. I helped with calving and always prayed for a girl Smile

Supporting the most ethical farmers (even if it costs a bit more) is one way to help. Some people can switch to soy or almond milk but not everyone can or wants to, but you can support the kindest farmers.

QwertyLou · 18/02/2019 03:50

derxa why the confused face, I did always pray for a heifer calf. I was 9. I am just trying to convey the facts since some people seem unaware that male calves are killed at birth.

I avoid meat and dairy myself, as do many of my family, if that was your point.

AGHHHH · 18/02/2019 03:55

Random question, but where in general do vegans stand on killing pests? I had a fly infestation in my house and when I was Raiding the room I was thinking what would a vegan do in this situation? 😅

BarbaraofSevillle · 18/02/2019 06:36

I suppose flexitarian is a person who avoids meat most of the time, for the same reasons vegetarians do, but has meat occasionally

Omnivore is the word you are looking for, you know, how people used to eat before mass production made meat cheap enough to eat every day in large quantities. Bollocks attention seeking label not required.

WFTisgoingoninmyhead · 18/02/2019 06:45

Just unfollow her on SM and then it won’t worry you what her views are. We all know someone like this I have a ‘friend’ who does all this type of stuff on SM then posted a photo of herself with a shotgun in hunting gear saying ‘that’s my weekend sorted’ I had to comment but I usually didn’t I have since unfollowed her, she annoys me.

ktjerl · 18/02/2019 12:27

A minor celebrity came in to my place of work and ordered fish and chips. I looked at her Twitter feed later on to see if she had commented on them only to find loads of vegan posts. She had been fired from a job because she posed nude for a PITA campaign too. I was dying to post asking if she enjoyed her fish. I didn't but it took a lot of will power. Lol

Bluntness100 · 18/02/2019 12:35

I'd probably just respond with something like, oh shit, do you know that's not vegan and leave it there.

As for the folks posting about slip ups and hiccups.i find that a bit surprising. I always though vegans believed what they said so genuinely didn't want to eat these things, so surprised to find they do want to eat them and have occasional blips. But if that's the case, then why put hosts to so much trouble to cook specially for you, just eat whatever they are serving.

AGHHHH · 18/02/2019 12:38

@ktjerl does she have the initials SJH by any chance 😅 a quick Google brought her up!

derxa · 18/02/2019 12:39

I am just trying to convey the facts since some people seem unaware that male calves are killed at birth. But not as many you're saying are killed. Did you read the article?

todayiwin · 18/02/2019 12:57

I have a friend that does this. Hypocrisy at its finest

todayiwin · 18/02/2019 12:59

@Bluntness100 "specially for you, just eat whatever they are serving"

Exactly this!! Refused everything I had made, yet tucked in to bread and BUTTER

todayiwin · 18/02/2019 13:00

@Bluntness100 why put hosts to so much trouble to cook specially for you, just eat whatever they are serving.

Sorry copy and pasted incorrectly

MikeUniformMike · 18/02/2019 15:21

What is a PITA campaign?

Lweji · 18/02/2019 15:25

It's how FB vegans learn how to be PITAs for PETA.

MikeUniformMike · 18/02/2019 16:03

I don't think I can 'bare' your puns.

Hiphopopotamus · 18/02/2019 22:11

@bluntness I sincerely believe that veganism is best for the environment, best for the animals, best for our health. And I believe it so sincerely that I am vegan despite the fact that I loved eating meat and dairy and found it very tasty. I try to be an easy guest when I visit and bring my own food if necessary. An occasional slip or hiccup is exactly that - a mistake and something I try to minimise. Tucking into beef stew or macaroni cheese whenever I visit people so they are not expected to take my views as being important to me kind of defeats the purpose
