To only have £100 until 28th Feb

Bananadrama99 · 12/02/2019 18:59

As the thread title says, I only have £100 until the 28th of February, when I get paid. I've paid all my bills, rent and travel for this month - the only thing I need to buy is about five more days worth of food (I have a load stocked up from a big shop earlier in the month, so I'm pretty much okay on that front). I live in London with my DP and we have no DC.

AIBU to think the next two weeks will be a struggle and also extremely boring?

OP posts:
Youmadorwhat · 12/02/2019 20:16

@Haffiana my thoughts exactly!!

DavetheCat2001 · 12/02/2019 20:17

Had you thought about crowd funding, OP?

We could all PayPal you a quid to help you struggle through these dark times Flowers

DataBreachCentral · 12/02/2019 20:18

@DerelictWreck

"you were right it is 5 days"

No, it's 16 days until the 28th.

OP said they only need 5 days worth of food but also has to buy a travel card. They could also end up with unexpected expenses on top of that in the intervening 16 days (repairs for broken down boiler, washing machine etc.).

Namechangedbecauseiwantto · 12/02/2019 20:19

I wish I had that much.
Does that help?

Ispywithmycynicaleye · 12/02/2019 20:20

I had to hand over my bank card to DP cause I couldn't stop spending. I have £0 to play with till the 28th .... and beyond can I get a loan

DerelictWreck · 12/02/2019 20:21

Apologies all - I thought the debate was about how many days of food, so I waded in all smug and was wrong. I'd say 'that'll teach me', but it won't...

FourEyesGood · 12/02/2019 20:21

Does it offend you? How on earth do you survive the day to day interactions with OTHER people who DO have more than £100?

They tend not to bang on about how much money they’ve got (or haven’t got), so the day-to-day interactions are generally more bearable.

Complaining about only having £100 is pretty crass. OK, so the OP’s not going to have much fun for a couple of weeks, but at least she doesn’t have any real financial worries. Some posters live such blinkered lives.

What's your commute OP? Can you walk, cycle or get the overground?

Entertainment-wise just get into something on Netflix?

ToTheMoonAndBack78 · 12/02/2019 20:24

£100 for. Two weeks.. Bless what a strain. I'm absolutely skint and we are relying on 1 wage until pay day 28th Feb. Two kids and bills still to come out, nursery fees are crippling as is cost of living. Id love £100 for 2 weeks of boredom... Hmm

Sukochicha · 12/02/2019 20:24

I don't think £100 is THAT much to last 16 days.

Not if you have to pay for tube travel to get to work or anything.

OP if socializing is your main worry, see if any of your friends fancy having you over for wine and dinner at the weekend, with the promise you'll host them after payday.

crunchie12 · 12/02/2019 20:24

Jesus. I'm overdrawn by £300 with £150 yet to come out. I am sure you'll survive Biscuit

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/02/2019 20:25

You can take the bus OP.

Much cheaper than a travel card. Takes longer than the tubes but it's a lot cheaper.

Youmadorwhat · 12/02/2019 20:26

As I said OP I would panic if all I had was 100 for two weeks but then again I have two DC also. So don’t let everybody make you feel bad. If your not used to it you’re bound to panic. Did you have extra bills or outgoings this month that you didn’t expect??

You'll live

MyKingdomForACaramel · 12/02/2019 20:27

I really don’t understand the hate here. The op isn’t exactly saying “oh how will we feel the ponies and heat the swimming pool on only a zillion quid”

Springwillsoonbehere · 12/02/2019 20:28

If you've got no other outgoings for the month having £100 isn't too bad.

Designerenvy · 12/02/2019 20:28

I'm not far behind you OP and I've 3dc's.
You'll be grand, do some free stuff, buy a bottle of cheap wine, go for a long walk but by all means avoid the clothes shops !
That's where I'd fall down in the past and out came the visa !
I'm a new woman now ( the past 2 weeksWink) and im avoiding the shops cos the the temptation would be too much!!!
Be inventive and you'll enjoy pay day all the more now on the 28th .

Santaclarita · 12/02/2019 20:28

BreconBeBuggered

You are absolutely right. I can't believe a few weeks ago someone actually called people on mn above average intelligence. I feel like we seem to be dropping an iq point with every post.

We've got a thread on here with people asking 'do you save 20% of your income' with some going 'I save 40% of mine, have paid off my mortgage, bought a yacht, why are you peasants struggling?'.

And now someone asks is £100 enough til the 28th? Out come all the people that don't even have two coins to rub together. While chatting away on here with their paid for Internet, phone/laptop/tablet, most of which will be over priced apple products. Funny how I don't believe either side of the coin.

You should be fine op, just have packed lunches and don't be extravagant. Simple enough, just odd if you aren't used to it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 12/02/2019 20:29

You wouldn't be here to stir things up a little, would you? hmm

Most definitely.

Lovingbenidorm · 12/02/2019 20:31

Omg! That’s awful!
You don’t even have enough for two good theatre tickets.

Mortgages · 12/02/2019 20:32

Has the OP been back
Honestly I believe at least 50% of threads here are not real

Haffiana · 12/02/2019 20:32

So where do you draw the bar? Are people who have only, say £5 until the end of the month allowed to talk about money? And as for your point about 'banging on' exactly how many people on this thread have the fucking nerve to come on here and claim that anyone who has more money than them is crass and lives a blinkered life? Oh - and is offending them?

If you said that about any OTHER sector of society you would be immediately called a bigot. This is simple bigotry.

stopitandtidyupp · 12/02/2019 20:33

Similat op and I have half term with activities booked.
It isn't that much to live an amazing standard. Survive and be ok yes but no extra fun.

Agree about contrary mumsnet. Reminds me of my Mother has to say the opposite just for a reaction.
