To only have £100 until 28th Feb

As the thread title says, I only have £100 until the 28th of February, when I get paid. I've paid all my bills, rent and travel for this month - the only thing I need to buy is about five more days worth of food (I have a load stocked up from a big shop earlier in the month, so I'm pretty much okay on that front). I live in London with my DP and we have no DC.

AIBU to think the next two weeks will be a struggle and also extremely boring?

OP posts:

mortgages op came back twice on this thread if you cared to look bak but got no relies to her responses.
Why would this thread be started to provoke people, I think it was half said in jest !

OP, if you've been on MN a while surely you will have picked up tips to help you out here. There are apparently easy ways to make money in the short term. The following is usually advised;

Sell everything on eBay
Buy a chicken to last you until the 28th
Do you have a spare room? Well rent it to a lodger. Don't worry about having a stranger in your home.
Take in ironing. I'm sure you have time/energy to do this on top of your day job.
Become a childminder for the next 2 weeks or get an evening job stacking shelves.

Seriously though, I live in London and I don't think £100 is a lot to survive on for 2 weeks if you live here. Personally I would be panicking if that was ALL I had between now and payday. I generally have roughly £600 left at this stage of the month to cover food shopping for family of 4, 1 remaining bill plus money for lunch and all the bloody expensive incidentals that stack up when you have young DC.

Even if you had no food I think you'd be OK.

Not living the high life or even going to the cinema and having a takeaway., but you'll be fine fir 26 days.

Even if your boiler breaks down itt not the end of the world. I had no boiler for two years with three children. None of us perished.

Watch a TV, make lots of vegetable soup, window shop/ go on a walk somewhere new/read books. It's only two weekends.

You have £6.25 per day. If you spend. I thing tomorrow you have £12.50 in Thursday. You'll be grand.

I don't think OP is coming back.... I'm a bit dissapointed this didn't end up as cheap fun ideas on a budget though (spoken as someone with annual leave and very little spare cash looming).

Eliza9917 · 12/02/2019 20:54

I think ppl are being unnecessarily mean. It's all relative and what you are used to. I'd be worried if I only had £100 for 2 ppl for 2 weeks too.

What I'd do tho is take whatever amount I've got, divide it by 2 and then divide that by however many days you have to make it last. That then is your daily maximum you each spend. If you don't spend any one day, then recalculate and your daily allowance increases Grin

Hullabalooo · 12/02/2019 20:55

That much!

HazelBite · 12/02/2019 20:56

This is all good training for when you have to survive on £146 per week state pension!

paintinmyhairAgain · 12/02/2019 20:58

tell me all your problems op, i'll tell you all mine right now and the last one standing wins a prize. tbh i wouldn't mind swapping my situation with you right now .Smile

WinterfellWench · 12/02/2019 21:01

LOL you'll manage OP. Bless........

diamondofdoom · 12/02/2019 21:02

No kids and £100 to last 2 weeks after all bills are paid.

And you're wondering if you'll manage? Hmm

Jesus Christ

Nothininmenoggin · 12/02/2019 21:03

So you have £100 left till the end if Feb only have to buy 5 days worth of food for 2 adults everything else is paid for. Why have you posted on AIBU?? What exactly are you asking us? That it's unreasonable to have £100 left till end if month or that it's not enough. All this post has done is piss a lot of people off really. Some people have sweet f**k all to the end of the month so do you know what I think you will survive.....if you budget wiselyAngry

Crazybunnylady123 · 12/02/2019 21:07

lol. £100 feeds my family for two weeks and we stretch it to three sometimes when we have unexpected bills.
Sometimes we only feed our daughter and save the best things fruit and veg for her. We manage...just.

waffleblanket · 12/02/2019 21:08

The hate on this thread. Shock She's not exactly rolling in it is she? She's got £6.25 a day to live on between two people, not 6 million.

YouBumder · 12/02/2019 21:10

Wow, what shitty responses.

People are usually falling over themselves on this website to boast about how well off they are and the OP is getting pelters for having an average of £6 a day disposable income. OK it’s not poverty and she hasn’t said it is, and other people live on less, but the OP has a job, she’d reasonably expect to have more than if she lived on benefits.

Nothininmenoggin · 12/02/2019 21:11

It's not hate it's called being realistic there are people sleeping rough with bugger all to eat the OP needs to get a grip she will not starve or be cold. I think it's a pathetic and taking the piss post

jarhead123 · 12/02/2019 21:12

Weird thread. You'll cope just fine OP!

BlueJava · 12/02/2019 21:12

YANBU in my opinion, it will be a struggle but it need not be boring. Make a list of free things to do where you are and tick of 4 or 5 of them.

KlutzyDraconequus · 12/02/2019 21:13

Fucking lmfao OP.

Oh wait your serious?

Well in that case...

Fucking LMFAOWROTFLMFAO

UndertheCedartree · 12/02/2019 21:14

I have £20 left until the 23rd and I haven't paid all my bills...do I win?!

Sleepyhead11 · 12/02/2019 21:15

I have the same. It's not wonderful but it's a lot better than it could be. A few years ago I was unemployed and properly skint in London. It does suck - in a small way - that I won't be able to go out, but it's not as bad as walking from Stockwell to Islington because I can't top up Oyster card.

*Sorry if I sound like a self righteous twat, I will miss going out with friends/buying treat food/etc) but it's only two weeks and not really a big deal in relative terms, and so many folk are worse off.

RosemaryHoight · 12/02/2019 21:20

Is this a regular thing? How did you get to be in this situation?

Regardless of how much it is, that you are panicking or have only just realized?

BlimeyCalmDown · 12/02/2019 21:25

Pack lunches every day
Cheap comfort food, pasta, noodles, beans on toast, sarnies, chips, potatoes, lentils etc
what someone else said -divide money for each day and don't spend any more than that and try spend nothing till the wk end so you can get cheap wine and snacks for treat.
Parkrun/ take up fitness outdoors (you'll be too tired out to go out socialising)
Netflix
De-clutter the house
Paint a wall or 2
Scrabble and monopoly
get cheap 2nd book on amazon (£3 including postage and will provide hours of fun)
pound shop for treats

BIWI · 12/02/2019 21:25

Hmm. So I got deleted for pointing out the inconsistencies in the OP's only two threads on MN.

And I notice that the OP hasn't been back.
