To only have £100 until 28th Feb

As the thread title says, I only have £100 until the 28th of February, when I get paid. I've paid all my bills, rent and travel for this month - the only thing I need to buy is about five more days worth of food (I have a load stocked up from a big shop earlier in the month, so I'm pretty much okay on that front). I live in London with my DP and we have no DC.

AIBU to think the next two weeks will be a struggle and also extremely boring?

OP posts:

But if the OP is normally well off, then surely she could just go into her overdraft?

PumpedUpTermite · 12/02/2019 19:49

I usually have less than that to cover food for the month (myself + shared care of 1 DC.) but at the end of the day it’s what you’re used to. Bit ignorant to post this knowing others are likely struggling much more but I can see why you did. I don’t think you were deliberately malicious..: anyways.
You’ll be fine, if a bit bored. Maybe next month buy yourself some things? If you’ve got for eg a week to go or whatever it’s called in London for travel maybe you could look at free/cheap activities, coupons/vouchers for food and stuff that you can cash in when you get bored. Or passes for amusements for the year or whatever? Just so if you get bored and are tightening the belts a bit you have things to do next time.
Hope this helps Smile

I survived for two weeks on .94p in my bank account until I got paid. That was my lowest, and other weeks were below £20 for the month. You have got this. Just take a deep breathe and get on with it.

DataBreachCentral · 12/02/2019 19:51

And you are moaning cause you only have £100 for five days?

I'd give anything to have a nice sum of £100 for five days.

So would the OP probably, but it's actually 16 days from now until the 28th

But this is mumsnet so there will be people on large incomes who think this is being poor. It really is not

Yeah it’s all relative I was just working out that after I pay my electricity bill I will have just under 750 in my account until next pay day 21st and I panicked!! So yes 100 would definitely make me panic! But then again I have to do some food shopping and get DS new runners too. Each to their own, some may think it’s plenty others may not 🤷‍♀️

FlyingMonkeys · 12/02/2019 19:52

So is that £100 for you or £50 each? How much will your extra travel deduct from the pot? What's your concerns? Are you feeling you'll lose out on weekend fun or worried something unexpected will crop up?

Iggly · 12/02/2019 19:56

The OP gets little sympathy because actually she’s got food in the cupboard and said she’s ok on that front.

It basically means little socialising.

Beansonapost · 12/02/2019 19:57

I'm sure your DP works as well...

Youmadorwhat · 12/02/2019 19:58

@IveGotAlpen she said it needs to last her until the 28th... that’s 2 weeks and 2 days not 5 days!!

lerrimknowyouretheyir · 12/02/2019 19:59

Have you thought about a second job?

punishmepunisher · 12/02/2019 20:01

That's shit loads of cash for 2 weeks food. I've got half that to last until 25th and thought I was doing ok this month!

erja · 12/02/2019 20:01

£100 with the only thing you need to buy is 5 days worth of food? I think you're okay.
I have about £100 to cover 3 weeks worth of food, stuff DS is desperate for, a portion of my gas bill, all preparing for my toddlers birthday at the start of March.
I don't think your position is as rare as you think OP, and considering all of your outgoings for the month are covered and you have 90% of what you need, I don't think it's bad - this seems like a pointless thread, sorry!

ToastyFingers · 12/02/2019 20:03

It's really easy. Buy whatever food you need at aldi, or better, from the reduced section and just don't socialise. Two weeks at home won't kill you. As a family we have less than £100 spare per month after bills etc. It's not a fun lifestyle but it's totally do-able.

IveGotAlpen · 12/02/2019 20:03

@Youmadorwhat whoops !!!!

Dalia1989 · 12/02/2019 20:03

I've got almost the exact same amount in my bank account. May I recommend Netflix box sets, and experimental cooking. It brightens up quieter weeks no end.

FlopsyMopsyRabbit · 12/02/2019 20:03

ODFOD of course you can live on £100 to get 2 weeks of food.

I have £20 to last me until the end of the month and I can manage on that just fine.

FlyingMonkeys · 12/02/2019 20:07

Tbh if you were saying that you and DP like to go out for drinks, meals, cinema and you've got a budget of £100 for fun fritter money then fair enough. If you're looking for cheap ideas then that's the thing to be asking perhaps 🙄

DerelictWreck · 12/02/2019 20:08

@IveGotAlpen you were right it is 5 days

@@Youmadorwhat I suggest you read the OP Wink

summertimehere · 12/02/2019 20:09

That’s awful, I couldn’t live like that not having financial security

Haffiana · 12/02/2019 20:11

Do all of those who don't have £100 until the end of the month wish for everyone else to never speak about money unless they are as poor as you?

Does it offend you? How on earth do you survive the day to day interactions with OTHER people who DO have more than £100?

ketchupormayo · 12/02/2019 20:12

Dunno why op is getting so much hate! £100 for nearly a month in London where a glass of wine is £7 in a cheap place!!

notaniota · 12/02/2019 20:13

@DerelictWreck

As the thread title says, I only have £100 until the 28th of February, when I get paid. I've paid all my bills, rent and travel for this month - the only thing I need to buy is about five more days worth of food (I have a load stocked up from a big shop earlier in the month, so I'm pretty much okay on that front). I live in London with my DP and we have no DC

Her next pay day is the 28th she said she needs 5DAYS worth of food. But essentially it has to last two + weeks

Youmadorwhat · 12/02/2019 20:14

@DerelictWreck no she states it has to last til the 28th in the title!?? She needs food for 5 days!

formerbabe · 12/02/2019 20:15

I have £20 to last me until the end of the month and I can manage on that just fine

I'd love to know how you'll manage just fine on that for the next 16 days?
