To think a Marxist society would be an improvement

Lots of people are so anti corbyn but there are many forms of Marxism and many could be far better than the system we have now imo.

Obviously corbyn isn't looking to replicate venezuela, that's been horrendously managed for a long time and was always going to end badly

Thanks for the reading link. Agree about the children and nice cars.

I mentioned Venezuela because it's ridiculous. But it's impossible to really talk about this stuff without half the people using Stalin as a reason to why we shouldn't have anything other than rampant capitalism

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/02/2019 16:19

Have you ever lived in a Marxist county, OP?

Have you sampled first hand the Marxist delights you’re craving or are you hoplding out for the Star Trek utopia?

Raspberry88 · 12/02/2019 16:21

I think Jeremy is a very gentle man, filled with care for others

I've met Jeremy and plenty of his mates back when I was a student and into politics. Gentle and caring isn't how I'd describe his ilk at all. Self involved, patronising, misogynists all. They see all women's issues as an irritant and a distraction from the plight of the working man. They'd throw you under the bus if they thought it would get them to a leafletting session quicker.

I've always thought that Seamus Milne , Stalinist apologist and Corbyns string puller, looks exactly like the kind of man who'd order your family to a re education camp and happily give you a neck shot too ..all in the name of ideolgical purity and the Worker's Paradise . Read Solzynitsin for the true reality of Marxism .

Raspberry88 · 12/02/2019 16:23

Whoops. He annoys me so much I posted it twice!

Whiney123 · 12/02/2019 16:24

3 pages in and the best the op can come up with is Star Trek and the fact janitors aren’t as ‘valuable’ as doctors.

One suspects he or she is typing on a smartphone - a device only possible because of the same rampant capitalism she derides.

Vive la revolution indeed...

Lolkittens5 · 12/02/2019 16:24

The people posting on this post are in the top 1% of the wealthy in comparison to the rest of world.

You can thank capitalism for that.

MephistophelesApprentice · 12/02/2019 16:27

The Star Trek economy only works because all necessary tasks are automated and the industrial infrastructure is considered to be held in common.

The problem ultimately with Marxism (and I am very radically socialist, but also not ideologically blind) is that the 'means of production' are still ultimately human beings. All the tools and technology still requires a human being to labour with them in order to extract value. Capitalists owning the 'means of production' means the wealthy exploiting human beings. Socialism means that the state (as an agent of the community) is exploiting human beings. Ultimately until necessary infrastructure is automated every economic system requires the exploitation of human beings. Personally I think the socialist system of exploitation at least has the benefits of the exploitation being divided amidst the community, but ultimately the necessary insistence on conformity creates an environment that appears more tyrannical that the superficial appearance of capitalism.

Patroclus · 12/02/2019 16:34

Ahhh I see we've had the smartphone rubbish as well now. Its about time people came up with some new material I think, and to look at how much of their stuff was developed in the USSR

To think a Marxist society would be an improvement
Patroclus · 12/02/2019 16:37

Everyy socialist should be against marxism/communism in my opinion. The amount of damage and undermining it has done to sensible social democracy has been unforgivable.

bellinisurge · 12/02/2019 16:39

I've lived in an allegedly Marxist country. It was shit and intermittently scary.

Andromeida59 · 12/02/2019 16:40

I wondered when someone would bring up Corbyn. He's bloody useless and I hope he never becomes PM. I used to be both a Labour Councillor and member. I left because of the rife anti semitism. Corbyn is nothing special and I have no idea why people follow him.
I used to be a "marxist" but then I grew up.

Corbyn and his acolytes are not Marxists. The people around him are majority public school educated and don't give a toss about the "working classes". It's just his particular brand. It does make me laugh when people talk about how the 2017 manifesto was the most "left wing" manifesto when it was identical to the 2015 manifesto.
Corbyn, like Marxism is hopefully just a phase and I can't wait to see the back of it.

Whiney123 · 12/02/2019 16:41

Patroclus - smartphone rubbish? Every technology the ussr ever had was either stolen (nuclear weapons and rocket tech post world war 2) and/or then failed to keep up with the west.

Don’t you have a Star Trek analogy like the rest of the loony left?

jemihap · 12/02/2019 16:41

No, we are doing just fine under our current corporatocracy/oligarchy as it is.

By ''we'' I mean bankers, CEO's, the political class, the establishment or anyone else has assets or incomes in 7 figures.

Andromeida59 · 12/02/2019 16:41

I also guess my partner's grandmother was in the wrong for fleeing the communists in the 50's. They were farmers who had a tiny small holding but if they hadn't left they would have been killed.

DGRossetti · 12/02/2019 16:50

I wonder what "Marxism" is ?

BishopBrennansArse · 12/02/2019 16:52

The fact the manifesto remained the same is surely an indication that it was the party's policy not JC's?

Raspberry88 · 12/02/2019 16:53

By ''we'' I mean bankers, CEO's, the political class, the establishment or anyone else has assets or incomes in 7 figures.

I don't know about that. I feel that I'm doing ok. That's as a family on a combined income of less than £24k...we have somewhere nice to live, eat well, have a drink, have a nice TV. Don't get me wrong, I know that things are much much worse for a great many people, but I don't think things are as unremittingly bleak as people insist.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/02/2019 16:55

So if we all did the cleaning and stuff of the ilk of the janitor example, how would we get to full employment? How would you solve the question of some, who refuse to work? The disabled? The sick and weak?

Are you saying some people should do a full days work and then go out for shits and giggles and clean etc while the interminably unemployed sit on their arses receiving the same amount of cash? Yeh right, I’m up fo that. Confused

I take it you’re very young and looking enviously at the Mumsnet demographic. Or is this a school essay?

Your post deserved to be repeated.

Whiney123 · 12/02/2019 16:56

Marxism? It’s about making everyone equally poor

Next question?

ThereWillBeAdequateFood · 12/02/2019 16:58

I love Star Trek.

I did wonder if humans would ever manage to live in such a society though. Probably not.

TheRiverIsAComfort · 12/02/2019 17:12

@Raspberry88

My opinion of Jeremy Corbyn varies hugely from yours.

However, to post that he is a misogynist and views women's issues as an irritant is plain wrong.

Do you really think that feminists such as Dianne Abbott and Emily Thornberry would be led by-and support such a man?

In any event, my opinion reains unchanged. he wants an equal society-a society where one is not bound by gender, class , race or sexuality. He wants a society based on gentle, caring values where greed is shunned.

How can anyone argue with that.

BTW, to a previous poster who implied that one cannot be Marxist of born to a rich background. Twaddle I retort!

Downtroddenhousingass · 12/02/2019 17:12

Agree smartphones is ridiculous,

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_inventions

Bizarre post Raspberry88, not everyone is paid the same it's about who owns the means to production. You don't really understand it.

scaryteacher · 12/02/2019 17:16

Theriver Abbot just wants to be back in Corbyn's bed, and who knows what Laydee Nugee has been up to with him.

Corbyn is their only hope of getting anywhere near the levers of power and the pair of them would sell their souls for that, and probably their kids as well.
