Not sure if it's weird but I just have a little collection of words I love (mainly for their meaning and not the sound).

I loved limerence when I first heard it.

Does anyone have any other words that they really like the meaning of? I'm actually looking for one-word tattoo inspiration (don't judge for the tattoo!), so I'm reading, googling, being more conscious of words in films etc but I thought I'd ask you users as well!

Ouagadougou

Actually, don't put your maps away just yet, until we've added Ljubljana to the list.

clairestandish · 21/02/2019 00:56

glossy

Chaffymcchaff · 21/02/2019 09:26

Gosh! So many pretentious words on here that I'm absolutely sure nobody IRL actually uses! I'm an English teacher...and I've just spent 15 minutes googling some of them. Even in academic circles, you'd look and sound like a twat if you came out with "There is absolutely nothing I can do about his behaviour, obviously...he's suffering with limerance darlings!"

My favourite word...wanker 👍 Has a certain honesty about it, and when used well, nobody is left wondering what you're on about 😉

Fadingawayagain · 21/02/2019 09:53

Bake and roast. So satisfying

NutElla5x · 21/02/2019 09:53

Bollocks.

JaneJeffer · 21/02/2019 09:54

Are you sure you're an English teacher Chaffy?

Amibeingnaive · 21/02/2019 12:21

How could you possibly appear pretentious by using an appropriate word in context?

Sunflower1989 · 21/02/2019 12:34

Superfluous,
Acciaccatura (musical term)
Rambunctious xx

HeronLanyon · 21/02/2019 16:58

Only pretentious if you use it with pretension surely? In context amongst others who wouldn’t turn a hair why not?

Newtonthehorizon · 21/02/2019 19:07

I love 'Twat' and 'Bollocks'

Newtonthehorizon · 21/02/2019 19:08

And Balloon!

HeronLanyon · 21/02/2019 19:43

newton touché is pretty good too eh ? Grin

watchmefly · 21/02/2019 19:51

Discombobulate. Just like the combination of sounds.

Slapdasherie · 21/02/2019 19:54

Yes, slapdash and haberdashery are excellent words. If only there was a way to combine them.

Speaking of which, combine harvester is my favourite 2 word phrase.

Al2O3 · 21/02/2019 20:08

Pamplemousse

GrumpyOldMare · 21/02/2019 20:17

Bollocks

longwayoff · 21/02/2019 20:56

Sussuration
Serendipity
Miscellaneous
Luminescence
Paraphernalia

longwayoff · 21/02/2019 21:07

Chaffy. You teach English but deem its correct usage pretentious? I wasn't taught that vocabulary should be restricted according to the whims of my teachers.

WitsEnding · 21/02/2019 21:16

Synchronicity
Shenanigens
Miereneuker

MumUnderTheMoon · 21/02/2019 21:35

Schmegegge probably not a good tattoo though.

WoollyMummoth · 21/02/2019 21:37

galleon
rapscallion
The name Cillian
I’ve obviously got a thing about how they end
Oh and vermilion

LeslieYep · 21/02/2019 21:40

I love oubliette. Kinda sad meaning, but it's pretty and feel lovely to say.

Stompythedinosaur · 21/02/2019 21:41

Defenistration is mine.

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 21/02/2019 22:01

Serendipity is probably my absolute favourite.

julensaor · 21/02/2019 22:02

And for the most part, the point of the thread is missed Grin. Op wants a word for a tattoo. The likes of bungalow and miscellaneous or even lemon aren't going to cut it! (though beautiful sounds and I get it previous posters, not dissing).

Op if you are getting a tattoo, surely it must mean something to you personally. If I had to be stuck with one word and I do not mind tattoos, but don't know if I would want the same thing forever. From the above as standalone words, serendipity and starlight are nice in my humble opinion. I would also throw in the words evanescence. ephemeral, ineffable.
