To ask - your favourite word?

Not sure if it's weird but I just have a little collection of words I love (mainly for their meaning and not the sound).

I loved limerence when I first heard it.

Does anyone have any other words that they really like the meaning of? I'm actually looking for one-word tattoo inspiration (don't judge for the tattoo!), so I'm reading, googling, being more conscious of words in films etc but I thought I'd ask you users as well!

Mantequilla - I know it's Spanish and I'm a native-English speaker that doesn't even live Spain - but I've loved the word since I first heard it many years ago.

Masticate. I use it a lot

SilverDoe · 12/02/2019 20:19

Also Radiant, Luminous, Ethereal and Serendipity.

Mmmmmm, lovely words.

SilverDoe · 12/02/2019 20:25

Oh wow just read the whole thread and Serendipity is very popular! A PP mentioned ephemeral too which I also love - I think there’s a loose theme in the meanings of the words that most strike me.

Fink · 12/02/2019 20:33

Liminal

Poppet

Chatelaine

I hate some of the popular words on here, like serendipity and plop. Serendipity makes my skin crawl, it's like fingers down a chalk board.

Flutternotsoshy · 12/02/2019 20:41

Oxymoron or debacle for me.
But I'm odd

Theparkingtroll · 12/02/2019 20:51

I asked my 4 year old his favourite word. ‘Penguins’ apparently

Furrydogmum · 12/02/2019 21:07

Twunt.. 😬

ByStarlight · 12/02/2019 21:22

Knuffle

(Dutch word for cuddle. But the “k” is actually pronounced, unlike silent k in English words beginning with kn. As a native English person living in the Netherlands, I love the sound of the pronounced k for some strange reason)

ByStarlight · 12/02/2019 21:27

Might help if I’d actually spelt it correctly! It should have been ‘knuffel’. Clearly my Dutch needs improvement! Blush

Fink · 12/02/2019 21:33

Completely with you there, @ByStarlight

I love a good kn with the non-silent k. Knoblauch in German is a great one.

Same goes for the sb- sound in Italian. sbracciato, sbagliato. Love it!

Serendipity

Guffaw

jarhead123 · 12/02/2019 21:37

Not exciting but I realise I overuse the word 'lovely' - must say it a hundred times a day!

Honeypickle · 12/02/2019 21:40

Persephone (but I think I say it differently in my head to how it’s actually pronounced)

Scallywag

Starlight

WeAreStardustWeAreGolden · 12/02/2019 21:49

Columbine
Ethereal

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 13/02/2019 15:31

Honeypickle I love your choices!

Starlight is truly beautiful! And, both Persephone and Scallywag are fun to say! Smile

Bumbulum.

Roland the Farter was obliged to perform one jump, one whistle and one bumbulum each year in return for his very generous salary.

Just in case it isn't immediately obvious what it means, bear in mind that the illustrious chap wasn't known as Roland the Jumper or Roland the Whistler.

Apparently, it was also a kind of musical instrument (which may have actually existed or just been mythical), which sounded very like, well, you can guess.
