Celery.

The tiniest slice ruins any meal. AIBU?

Do you have another suggestion?

Oh yes, margarine. So disgusting, and so enraging when you receive food that is clearly dripping with it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/02/2019 00:17

Goat's cheese
Fennel
Dill
Rosemary on otherwise perfectly good roast potatoes
Garlic and olive oil in trendied-up mash - probably served on bits of slate, too. I'd like milk and butter in mine, thanks. On a plate.

Used to hate coriander after buying some aeons ago abroad, long before it was common in the U.K. - thinking it was flat leaf parsley. Oh, the horror when I realised my mistake! Thought it was vile.
Can tolerate it now though.

grincheux · 12/02/2019 00:41

Parsley 😞

MadisonAvenue · 12/02/2019 01:00

Peppers, especially green ones.
Cucumbers, even the smell of them makes me feel ill.

Serin · 12/02/2019 07:29

Margarine.
Squid ink.
Yeast flakes.

morningconstitutional2017 · 12/02/2019 11:24

I know I'm unusual but I hate pepper, aniseed, parsley and ginger.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/02/2019 12:31

@MadisonAvenue - you are 100% right about green peppers. I love yellow, orange and red ones, but the green ones are just unripe and taste nasty.

Hesperatum · 12/02/2019 14:11

Mushrooms aka stewed velvet

ButtMuncher · 12/02/2019 14:19

Fennel. Can't stand it.

I love loads of the food people have posted 😂

ButtMuncher · 12/02/2019 14:19

Oh and green peppers. rank.

golddustwomen · 12/02/2019 14:28

Mushrooms 🤢 and I'm not too keen on ginger either

AiryFairy1 · 12/02/2019 14:53

Bananas 😤

Pinkbells · 12/02/2019 15:04

Anything smoked - fish, meat, etc - all yuck!
Star Anise - nice in very very tiny amounts otherwise the dish is ruined.
My mum hates rosemary with a vengeance so having her over at Christmas and Easter scuppers the meal because we love lots of it on lamb or roast potatoes!

Pinkbells · 12/02/2019 15:05

Oh yes, margarine. So disgusting, and so enraging when you receive food that is clearly dripping with it.
What is it with margarine - who actually likes it? It's totally vile and completely unnecessary. What's wrong with ordinary butter??

stuckinagut · 12/02/2019 15:12

Always hated parsley. No idea how it got a reputation as a garnish!

Oh and another vote for raisins in cakes or puddings.

dellacucina · 12/02/2019 16:11

@Pinkbells I have encountered many people who sincerely seem not to notice or realise there is a difference - like in sort of low-end restaurants they will be confused if you specify you'd like 'real butter'. This definitely has happened to me a lot in America, not sure if it's as bad in the UK.

Furrycushion · 12/02/2019 16:37

Yes, margarine. Yuk. I used to work near a wonderful sandwich shop apart from the fact that it used a giant tub of catering margarine. I used to make them jumpmout of their skins by suddenly yelling "no margarine" as they had the knife poised.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 12/02/2019 16:37

Rocket. Tastes like the smell of fox piss.

coppercolouredtop · 12/02/2019 18:20

Squid. Might as well cook laggy bands and eat those instead.

And aubergine. It has the texture of a slug. Envy

minkies11 · 12/02/2019 18:27

Butterbeans

GinisLife · 12/02/2019 18:51

Margarine - one step from plastic. Why would you eat it ?
Green peppers - hard and tasteless
Those horrid little baby sweet corns you get in Chinese - taste soapy
Goats cheese - I can smell it from the end of the road. Vile
Blue cheese - as goats cheese
Walnuts - just vile. As are most nuts but walnuts are the worst
Sprouts. Horrid little balls of nastiness that lurk in your plate under the meat waiting to trap you
Milk
Marzipan
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Weetabix - the smell. Ugh.

agentdaisy · 12/02/2019 20:51

Coriander - horrible soapy stuff that's ruined many an Indian takeaway.
Raw tomatoes - slimy and watery and contaminate everything they touch.
Mustard
Beetroot
Any soft cheese other than mozzarella (which itself is only okay melted on pizza/toast/lasagne etc.)
Peppers
Liver/kidney/offal in general
Cucumber - slimy, musty tasting thing.
Marzipan - ruined my wedding cake that I'd specifically said I didn't want marzipan on. Fennel/star anise or anything anaseed tasting.
Avocado

Mint sauce is my number 1 food ruiner- ruined my nan's amazing Christmas Dinner once when my aunt took it upon herself to put it all over my (and everyone else's) dinner when she was 'helping' my nan plate up. I was about 6 and cried because I loved my nan's roasts and there was nothing left that hadn't been covered in the foul stuff.

Betty777 · 12/02/2019 21:12

I realise that most of the planet is not with me on this - RICE. Vile little dry grainy maggoty things

DistanceCall · 12/02/2019 22:10

Green peppers, why do they even grow them?

As PPs have said, they are unripe peppers. They are one of the pillars of Spanish cuisine. They are used mainly because they are not sweet (unlike red peppers).

OrigamiZoo · 12/02/2019 22:13

Parsely.

Worst is thinking the parsely is coriander (which I love on a curry) They look identical but ooooh the merest tiny taste of parsley makes me shudder.
