Food that ruins EVERYTHING

cauliflowersqueeze · 09/02/2019 19:01

Celery.

The tiniest slice ruins any meal. AIBU?

Do you have another suggestion?

OP posts:
GahWhatever · 11/02/2019 13:06

dill.
overpowers everything. Why the Scandinavians have to add it to everything, including sushi (WTF!) I cannot fathom.
tarragon.
smells of lawn clippings. Why would you want to put that in your food?

bettytaghetti · 11/02/2019 13:10

Can't believe only a couple of other posters have mentioned truffles/truffle oil. Yuk!
Hate that chefs think because it's an expensive item that it's automatically going to enhance any dish.
Just being in a restaurant where other diners are eating the stuff puts me off. For some reason the smell really gets to me.
If DH has been out for a meal and has had anything with truffle, I would prefer it if he spent the next 24 hours in another room! Grin okay, so that's not always down to truffle consumption!

SoSaidTheHorse · 11/02/2019 13:11

I agree with truffle oil. It's one of the worst things that I've ever eaten.

MikeUniformMike · 11/02/2019 13:13

Ugh truffle oil. I think I've only had pretend truffle oil but I didn't like it.
I like dill and tarragon. Parsley, rosemary and basil can be overpowering.

zonkin · 11/02/2019 13:20

Parsley - it's such a strong taste. I really hate it.

Love loads that are mentioned on here tho.

Queenofmyownheart · 11/02/2019 13:22

Kidney beans shudder I can't cope with them. The texture makes me gag.

Iceberg lettuce in a salad too. No idea why, just hate it.

Pepperoni. Tastes like death and repeats on you all night.

RoastOx · 11/02/2019 13:44

Cardamom. Little fuckers always sneak onto my fork when eating an indian

cherrylo86 · 11/02/2019 13:55

Lemongrass or anything fragrant, no idea why anyone would eat anything that tastes like hand soap Confused

Raw tomato, vile - cooked and sauce is fine but raw is a big no no

Celery and cucumber are pointless, watery and crap tasting

However I love mushrooms, garlic, chilli, onions, and coriander!

Perfectpanda11 · 11/02/2019 13:58

Cheap whipped cream. I love pretty much everything everyone else has mentioned.

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 11/02/2019 14:14

The level of sheer hatred on this thread for groceries is brilliant.

belinda789 · 11/02/2019 14:17

Coriander tastes like soap for some 4-14 percent of the population.
Coriander haters are people with a shared group of olfactory-receptor genes, called OR6A2, that pick up on the smell of aldehyde chemicals.
Aldehyde chemicals are found in both cilantro and soap. Yummy !!

belinda789 · 11/02/2019 14:18

Cilantro and Coriander are the same thing...……...

MiniMum97 · 11/02/2019 14:25

Coriander leaf and raw celery. 🤮

dellacucina · 11/02/2019 14:27

Real truffle is amazing. Truffle oil is repulsive.

thatsmyspace · 11/02/2019 14:27

Avocados 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Queenofmyownheart · 11/02/2019 16:57

Just remembered another one. Bay leaves. Growing up my mother used to put them in everything along with cardomom pods. Disgusting 😂😂

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 11/02/2019 18:30

I like bay leaves but there are a couple of things I won't put them in as they really alter the taste. I also only put cardamom pods in (eggless) kedgeree.

Iseverynametaken · 11/02/2019 18:57

Balsamic vinegar - to me, absolute revolt.
Sour cream - as above. I just dont get it!
Things with big blobs of natural yoghurt on it like curries etc.
Cream cheese.
Vegemite, marmite, promite - all of the mites. They stink enough that I've never eaten it!
Can tolerate small amounts of cheese melted in things now, but a raw cheese board? Sad
Pate & Terrines also yuck.
Speck... that thick fatty ham that posh resturants like to include in things such a risotto just no.
Beer...it stinks and tastes like I imagine tangy mold does.
Unflavoures milk... can easily do a chocolate or coffee, but unflavoured no way.

I had a serious aversion to anything dairy as a kid (has improved now) to the point I wouldn't even eat dairy flavoured things... no cheese crisps, milk bottle lollies, custard, trifle etc. I hadnt even tried cereal until my 20's cos the thought of having to have milk with it made me recoil!

FluffyMunchkin · 11/02/2019 19:43

Thyme. Bleh!

MrsMcW · 11/02/2019 19:59

Chickpeas. Weird tasteless mushy balls.

And I'm one in a million here, but BUTTER. I can never buy a ready-made sandwich because it's slathered in the stuff. I don't mind things cooked in butter, or even if it's melted over corn on the cob, but cold butter smeared across bread turns my stomach.

RedTulip86 · 11/02/2019 21:12

Skimmed through the thread, found one thing I definitely dislike-margarine. Will happily eat all common food :)

spinabifidamom · 11/02/2019 22:50

Strawberries.

ForOldLandsEye · 11/02/2019 23:00

Oh, I love celery! So clean, crunchy and fresh-tasting!

Cant abide:

Curry
Chilli
Onions
Cabbage
Bacon
Beetroot
Coleslaw
Ginger
Mustard

Basically anything strong thats going to make me cough or burn my mouth ... and arse when it comes out!

daisychain01 · 11/02/2019 23:04

I like specialty oils like sesame oil, walnut oil, olive oil, hemp oil.

But truffle oil is truly RANK, urghhh.

ForOldLandsEye · 11/02/2019 23:04

@belinda789 that’s fascinating. Tell us more!

Apparently, I have an intollerancevto all the alcohol sugars called Polyols. My bowels turn to water if i have so much as a tea spoon. Found that out the hard way by eating two pieces of sugar free chewing gum on a long flight ...
