All the ones that aranged for brexit without any clear plan can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. That's why we are in such a mess now!

Still nothing... just one thing.....

BejamNostalgia · 07/02/2019 15:15

It actually really fucking shocks me how hypocritical some of the poster on MN.

I know for a fact there are several posters on this thread would become incandescent with rage about Trump’s unprofessional tweets and would be having an apoplectic hissy fit tantrum if Donald Trump or a Tory politician even came close to behaving like EU leadership do in public.

FFS, Juncker is so fucking shitfaces he can’t be seen after midday and had to be bodily held upright by two other world leaders at a NATO summit last year because he was too drunk to stand. And Tusk is just being fucking childish as usual because he enjoys nothing more than a bit of willy waving to underline his authority.

There’s no WAY any of the posters on here would accept a UK government led by a drunk and a bully stay in office. But when it’s the EU you get app happy clappy and want to sit in w circle singing Kumbaya while handing control of our weapons and. armed forces to a drunk and a megalomaniac.

Lweji · 07/02/2019 15:21

We're not evaluating Tusk's performance or how appropriate his statement was.

I just happen to agree with his statement. As many MNetters, it seems.

Lweji · 07/02/2019 15:21

Also, most Brexiters shock me a lot more. Particularly those that Tusk referred to.

rosie39forever · 07/02/2019 15:32

BejamNostalgia a lot of remainers are well aware of the glaring imperfections in the EU and would probably agree that it needs reform in many areas but we'll never have the chance to implement reforms now because we are being forced into a totally uncontrollable unknown future imposed on leavers and remainers by an incompetent selfish government and opposition (such as they are) who couldn't give a flying fuck about the people who they represent and pay their wages.

Eeeeeby · 07/02/2019 15:37

There's no doubt that the government has been an utter shambles. But the view that the EU have played their hand well is too simplistic.

The EU did not ask for Brexit and they have no obligation to help the UK. They do have an obligation to achieve the best outcome for EU citizens, and they will have failed if we exit without a deal.

The Leave campaign were a cross party group, who were largely distant from power. How could they have had a coherent plan? The (stupid fucking) referendum reduced a highly complex issue into a Yes\no question.

Yes, the government should have had a semblance of a plan before triggering A50, but how could they have planned properly when the EU refused to engage at even a high level? What would have been the point in delaying A50?

The EU have effectively set the structure and timetable for this whole sorry mess. 2 years was always coming to be ambitious, even without our disfunctional government.

bananaramaspyjamas · 07/02/2019 15:44

YANBU and I'm glad he's speaking up for remainers, ie half the population of the UK, because no British politicians are, which is disgraceful

frumpety · 07/02/2019 15:44

Bejam if Donald Trump had said it I would still agree with what was said because it is true

time4chocolate · 07/02/2019 15:45

I'm very 'meh' about the Donald Tusk comment and can't get worked up about it (it didn't surprise me).

I was though cringing at the whole Leo/Jean-Claude media spectacle that was the 'card opening'. Being a Eurosceptic I think there is more going on here than meets the eye.

BartholinsSister · 07/02/2019 15:53

We're often reminded how the EU is a paragon of democratic transparency ... so who voted for this Tusk fella?

frumpety · 07/02/2019 16:01

Winces slightly at Bartholins user name , everyone but the Polish prime minister voted for Tusk Grin

BorisBogtrotter · 07/02/2019 16:01

He is appointed by the European Council, so the heads of the 28 EU governments.

frumpety · 07/02/2019 16:04

Including Theresa May Smile

Lweji · 07/02/2019 16:07

so who voted for this Tusk fella?

The European Council. Who is made up of all heads of state or government, who are elected by member states.

It's not a secret. You can easily find it out by googling it.

Frankiestein402 · 07/02/2019 16:12

@eeeeeby - article 50 defines the sequence (agree withdrawal then trade framework) plus the 2 year timescale.

The EU were not 'refusing to engage', throughout the EU has just been following the process - its our shambolic excuse for an executive/government that didn't get its ducks in a row before invoking article 50 and then spent 18 months waffling before engaging.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 07/02/2019 16:18

@rosie39forever he best thing to come out of a hard Brexit will be a United IrelandGrin

rosie39forever · 07/02/2019 16:25

Unfortunately Jebus the unionists would never be on board for that back to the bad old days of blowing one another up.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 07/02/2019 16:38

It will be interesting to see what happens. Sinn Fein will call a border poll if there is a no deal situation. I don’t think they would get the result they want this time but it will be very close and will give Republicans something to work towards

Topseyt · 07/02/2019 16:39

Jebus, that is probably what the likes of Sinn Fein are hoping for, but the unionists (DUP etc.) will not wear that one and they are propping Theresa May's government up.

It would also still contravene the Good Friday Agreement, which both Northern Ireland and the Republic held separate referenda on in 1998, and both voted by a wide margin to accept.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 07/02/2019 16:45

I’m fairly sure a hard border will also contravene or at least he at odds with the spirit of the Good Friday agreement but that’s not stopping anyone at the moment . Still no viable solution as to all of us who live near this imaginary line across our island will manage post Brexit no deal

Topseyt · 07/02/2019 16:52

I know, Jebus. I don't live in Northern Ireland, but have family on my Dad's side who still do.

I don't know what the solution is. Or indeed if there is a solution (there probably isn't). The whole Brexit thing is just such a terrible idea, and a complete shambles.

Lexilooo · 07/02/2019 17:25

Well done Donald nail well and truly hit on the head there! 👏👏

havingtochangeusernameagain · 07/02/2019 17:31

He is absolutely right. I admire him for saying that. I've felt less and less patriotic since the referendum result. I'm afraid I have seen this country show it's true colours. They are ugly - xenophobic and bigoted

I agree. However, I would change"this country" to "this government". There are 60 million people in the UK and we don't all have the same views as this stupid government, not by a long way.
