To be shocked

Hi everyone,
My daughter 12 and half started he periods last month, I did expect it soon as I could see her body changing. Today my nearly 10 year old daughter shows me her pants and it has slightly red on it, she said it's been since last week and was confused. I'm shocked she looks like she's 7 she's absolutely tiny and petite and she doesn't know anything.
Is this really her period ? I didn't start my period until 12 I definitely wasn't expecting her to start yet intact I thought she'd be later than 12 as she's so petite. Could this be discharge of some sort ?
Thanks

If it’s ongoing for a week, I’d be ruling out a kidney infection? Has she hit puberty in other ways yet

goodolddaze · 04/02/2019 17:59

question for a GP surely?

Reccy2018 · 04/02/2019 18:00

I started mine as 10, but I looked about 13 by then. I hated it at primary school

TovaGoldCoin · 04/02/2019 18:00

I had discharge liken that irregularly for about 8 months before I started regularly. I was 10, doing on 11

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 04/02/2019 18:01

I can only go on my and DD's experiences of starting periods early, but there was definitely blood, not slightly red. Is go and see the GP to see if there are other causes

TovaGoldCoin · 04/02/2019 18:01

It's not uncommon for year 5s tonstart, and we have one year 4.

YourFly · 04/02/2019 18:01

Really

garethsouthgatesmrs · 04/02/2019 18:01

It could be. if you are worried see Gp though.

TickTockClocks · 04/02/2019 18:03

Ask the GP. Hmm

YourFly · 04/02/2019 18:06

BTW YABU

I was 10 when I started and it was just after my older sister did at 13. I was small for my age too so always wondered whether hormonally
We were affected by each other and I started because of my sister starting. However I would also investigate other causes first as well.

Sammy that's what I thought too

I definitely will take her to the doctors, she only told me today, it's dark red browny blood. She hasn't got any other signs of puberty yet.

My friends daughter started at 7 and I'm sure they gave her something to delay it - it was a while ago so can't be more specific. See the GP x

WhatTheNightBrings · 04/02/2019 18:29

Why on earth have you not taught your ten year old about puberty yet?
Poor girl.

namechangedforthefirsttime · 04/02/2019 18:29

Pottery that's interesting, although I don't think they would do that for her as she's almost 10

Now this brings another thread that's been on here to mind!

Where do you keep your sanpro stuff? Surely if your 10 year old has seen them she'd ask what they were for? Do you have them openly on a shelf or hidden away?

ImTheDamnFoolThatShotHim · 04/02/2019 18:35

I bled when I was 9/10, it was coming from my kidney/waterworks.. I had a cyst, diagnosed by ultrasound, it was accompanied by abdominal pain & various UTIs on & off.
My mother just assumed it was my period before this.
But girls are starting periods earlier and earlier these days.

Vividdreaming · 04/02/2019 18:37

I started my period at the age of 9. It isn’t uncommon.

Firestars · 04/02/2019 18:41

My 5 year old ds knows exactly what a period is, how it's dealt with and (roughly) why it happens.

I have super horrific periods so there was no hiding it. Last month when I had a huge bleed and it was all over the bathroom he ran to get wipes and asked if he could help clean it up.

How on earth does a 10 year old not know what they are?

Neverunderfed · 04/02/2019 18:43

Your 19 yr old doesn't know about periods?!

AtlanticaBlue · 04/02/2019 18:45

What has being petite got to do with it?

TeddybearBaby · 04/02/2019 18:46

Seems like too much of a coincidence doesn’t it. Interesting to hear what the gp will say x

namechangedforthefirsttime · 04/02/2019 18:50

My Sanitry products are open on a shelf and she's never asked. Maybe I should have talked to her but I thought I'd wait till she's 10 ish. My older dd looks her age or older she has developed and this one has no signs at all. Now she's saying before this started for a week before she has yellow discharge but no discharge before that.

Teddybear it's very interesting isn't it
