To be shocked

Hi everyone,
My daughter 12 and half started he periods last month, I did expect it soon as I could see her body changing. Today my nearly 10 year old daughter shows me her pants and it has slightly red on it, she said it's been since last week and was confused. I'm shocked she looks like she's 7 she's absolutely tiny and petite and she doesn't know anything.
Is this really her period ? I didn't start my period until 12 I definitely wasn't expecting her to start yet intact I thought she'd be later than 12 as she's so petite. Could this be discharge of some sort ?
Thanks

I hope it's just a water infection - it's grim starting so young, as you have more years of bleeding than those who get to start later!
I started young (for then) in 1st week at high school, and still going strong 40 years later.......sigh.

@HumansCannotEverChangeSex

The average age is 12-13 and depends on when your mother started and how much you weigh. It's not much of a risk.

im glad you got t sorted op.
perfect time to have the convo then?on the lines of "its an infection but lets just make sure we're ready and know what need to just incase dd."this could be a great opeing for her and you to talk about it.being so worried she must have questions on it now I bet.
is she healthy otherwise or is underweight a problem.did the doc seems concerned?

Glad to see it's a UTI but perhaps now's the time to start the conversations. 10 is not early now. My daughter like me started on her 11th Birthday ( yes really weird I know) but she had definite signs and I was expecting it by perhaps not quite then. She's been regular as clock work since. Hopefully if her sister started late she's another couple of years of freedom !

When I was 11, 3 months before my periods started properly I had a one off bleed. In retrospection. I believe it was my hymen breaking. I've heard vigorous activity can cause this.

Kateandme yes I've had the convo with her now. She's always been underweight the doctor wasn't worries all healthy otherwise. But even I'm wandering now is the spotting can be due to the infection as it looks more than I'd expect too. Hope she still has a couple more years

I never saw my mother change her sanitary products and I wasn’t freaked out when I started my periods. My sons have never seen me change my sanitary products - same as I’ve never seen another woman change theirs. Don’t think that is unusual at all.
