Recently got into reading again and want to ask for suggestions!

I've just finished The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena after it being recommended by a friend.

Needless to say I was so disappointed with the ending Sad

TIA

Trustee from the toolroom

I read the couple next door- very disappointing. Do enjoy the genre though. Recommend Rachel Abbott, fantastic plots and easy to read. Also quite like KL Slater and a few others I can't think of right now

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent - immense beyond words

The Snow Child by eiowyn ivy. Bloody gorgeous

Life after Life and A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson - flipping fantastic

Home Fire by Kamila shamsie

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/02/2019 20:50

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden.

KnockMeDown · 03/02/2019 20:51

Another vote for Time Travellers Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger. I have re-read this so many times, and will do many more times. It's like an old friend.

SuperStellaElla · 03/02/2019 20:52

Middlesex - Jeffrey Eugenides
The Secret History - Donna Tart
The Sun Also Rises - Hemingway
His Dark Material Trilogy - Philip Pullman
Vilette - Charlotte Bronte
Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier

Can’t pick one favourite sorry!

Ten thousand splendid suns - I read it on my honeymoon and I balled my eyes out on the beach much to DHs amusement. It was beautifully written and epic. I also love Gone with the wind - I read it when I was 14 and it sparked a life long interest in history (randomly)

Potterurotter · 03/02/2019 20:57

The stand Stephen King

coffeeagogo · 03/02/2019 20:57

*A thousand splendid suns (bloody auto correct)

GoldenBuns · 03/02/2019 20:58

The Time Travellers Wife - Audrey Niffeneger
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
Fingersmith - Sarah Waters
She's Come Undone - Wally Lamb
Behind The Scenes in the Museum - Kate Atkinson
The Way I Found Her - Rose Tremain
After You'd Gone - Maggie O'Farrell
I Capture The Castle - Dodie Smith
Where'd You Go Bernadette - Maria Semple

If you're after a good thriller OP, I can highly recommend The Woman in the Window (author has slipped my mind, it it's on the best sellers at the moment). Utterly gripping!

Tuesdays with Morrie

BlueJava · 03/02/2019 20:58

Anything by Haruki Murakami. Loved Norwegian Wood, Dance Dance Dance and 1Q85.

Soulstirring · 03/02/2019 21:03

Another vote for A thousand splendid suns.

Also anything by Jodi Piccoult. Her latest is very thought provoking. I really enjoyed The Woman in the Window by AJ Finn which is relatively new too.

OdeToDiazepam · 03/02/2019 21:03

Dr sleep by Stephen king, not for its literary accomplishment obviously but it helped me through a really difficult time

Watership down, what an incredible story

OdeToDiazepam · 03/02/2019 21:04

Oh yes, A God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson is incredible. To the pp who loved life after life, you've got to read a god in ruins!!!

The kite runner if you want to cry a lot

CatherineCawood · 03/02/2019 21:05

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. Best book I've read in ages.

OdeToDiazepam · 03/02/2019 21:05

I hate the time travellers wife personally, unlikeable characters and disjointed, boring story

CostanzaG · 03/02/2019 21:08

I can't possibly choose my favourite book of all time as I read so many but The Nightingale has been the best book I've read in a long time. It will make you cry though

NicoAndTheNiners · 03/02/2019 21:09

The Goldfinch

pootleposeyperkin · 03/02/2019 21:13

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
